About Season 3 Clementine (SPOILER DISCUSSION)
So far, it seems like they seem to be stressing the "everyone around me dies" thing with Clementine. She also seems rather trigger happy and now has a background of being caught up in a dangerous situation that could end in more choices of "character" vs Clementine.
Do you think this is foreshadowing that they plan to build up a story where there will actually be a difficult choice between helping Clementine and helping someone else? And on that note, is there any possible way they could ever keep 90% of the players from siding with Clem no matter what? Would this be a wasted effort?
Also, on a more general note, what do you think is the aim of having us play as Javier with Clementine as an important supporting character? What do you suspect will be their dynamic going forward?

Personally, I think Clementine works much better as a supporting character and not a main character. It's the reason why we started loving her right? When we were talking to her in S1? I liked her a lot less playing as her in S2. She felt very bland, and making decisions as her didn't feel as interesting as when I was Lee in S1.
And now that we're off her shoes again, especially after the events of S2, it much more interesting to see her act a certain way that's beyond our control. If I was playing as her in S3, I would never have robbed Javi, but the fact that she almost does, it shows her personality that you don't have control over. And it's more interesting that way.
For me its a matter of This is my story. I want Clem to continue breathing. TellTale can make me love or feel slight guilt over my choices. But I will not budge. Clem is TTG TWD. Yes ,I want comic characters ,however, to me Clem is all to this story. But I'll admit I'd have played Javier differently were she not a major factor. Clem must live or this will have been a major waist of long term TTG TWD fans time. With the way this seems headed I don't feel great about Clems future.
I loved her, she was the only thing in the episodes I had no qualms about. But did TTG really think I would ever side against Clem for any reason even when it made narrative sense to. Clementine is the only thing that matters in that entire world, come on Telltale wake up.
The final choice in episode 5 will probably be something where you have to choose between saving Clem and someone else.
I hope not. That would honestly be lame as hell. And I'm pretty sure the majority would choose Clem no matter what.
No. Clementine could run me over and spit on my dead body but I'd still save her over anyone else.
I love Clem and if you play it a certain way Javier considers her a friend...but i play with Javier's brain. If it comes down to a friend or one of my family members (Minus Javier's brother) I'll have to do what i think Javier would do. I don't let my fondness for a character control my decisions.
Clem as a supporting character AFTER the fact we played as her....pretty much felt like we were raising her... is HORRIBLE IMO. People are entitled to their own but playing as someone else with her in the game feels absolutely wrong.
I don't CARE about anyone else other than Clem. I am now going to agree with everything she says because of this....an annoying aspect of it to say the least. It doesn't help that she does things my Clem would never agree to do.
Witnesses Alvin get killed because Kenny ambushed Carver. So Clem goes and does the EXACT same thing when Javier gives himself up to the NF getting that mans wife killed. I was hoping so badly the huge wait for this season was that it was going to be outstanding. When in reality its just because they had so much of a workload. That they managed by shortening everything they release by massive portions and nonsense writing.
Exactly, it creates this annoying situation where I am inclined to agree with her no matter what. Like im not gonna back up Clem?
Exactly, I loved every second of Clem being on my screen and want her there as often as possible. But I like to make choices that fit my narrative as best as possible, I had a narrative with Javi of a good guy who makes poor decisions but ultimately does whats right for his family, but all of that will always get tossed out the window for Clem. There were moments where I made decisions as if I was Clem, which is not good. Overall I enjoyed the game, but I'm not built to do anything but side with and protect Clem and there were times where that went directly against what would make logical sense for Javi.
The non-Clem person may as well just lie down and die right now. Even if TTG turns her into an evil prick of Negan like levels. I'm still standing with Clem, she is the only person that matters.
SAME.
Fuck me up clem
You all are talking from the heart mostly. Sure my first playthru...I am going to have Clem's back...but second play..I am going to sell that kid down the river so fast it will make her head spin. Love her in this season so far.
Hahaha yeah then she ends up being determinant and gets killed in a flashback in the first 5 minutes of EP1 next season :DDD
I bet that Clem will betray Javi near the end of the game...
Because sudden CONFLICT!
Well if Clem does die in this season let's hope there's a choice to prevent it.
Well if Clem can die in season let's hope there's a choice to prevent it.
It's been disappointing so far. And they really tried to make me care about Javiers family, but I lost interest before he even went into the house. I actually didn't bother paying any attention until Javier got shot in the face, then I had to so I could progress lol. I went through the junk yard as fast as I could and didn't really bother with any conversations, #TTsJavier can speak for himself.
I can't say I'm too fond of her this season.I didn't like the scene where she shot that guy(I don't know his name). Why?I'll tell you right now.Firstly, she was trying to prove her point, which is right.Well, the execution was pretty stupid on her part. How can you think that every single one of the bullets will be faulty? And why aim at his head if you don't want to kill him?And where the fuck was her rifle,so she can,you know, kill the guy when he was fighting with Javier?
Also, when you are on your way to save Javier's family and the New Frontier pack starts shooting."If we don't kill them now they will come after your family later." . Excuse me ,what the fuck?Even if you managed to kill all of them, without getting yourself killed or mortally wounded, then, what makes you think that you won't get Negan'd and captured by the,you know, actual New Frontier's big ass group?
Also, when you first meet,it's totally ok for her to rob you,but if you choose to accept Conrad's plan then you are a fucking traitor, even though she lied to you about her being a part of the New Frontier group and almost left you 'naked' and alone, without your family.
I understand people like her when she's badass,I personally don't.And don't even get me started on how she had ANY part in that tree falling thing at the beginning.
Hey! don't talk shit about my Clem..
Ayy lmao, what I said is true though.Just because you like her doesn't mean you can't agree with me.
She really isn't, and that attitude is part of why Telltale even forced her into this Season. It was obvious from the start that people would side with Clementine even if she was definitely in the wrong (shoots a guy in the face and wants us to cover for her) or at the cost of someone's life (Conrad); which, realistically, I can't see any survivor doing for someone they've just met and who admitted they were part of an enemy group. What has Clementine even done for Javier for him to say "After all we've been through!?" as if it's some kind of shock that Clementine didn't share her backstory with a complete stranger?
Telltale clearly wrote Javier as a catalyst between the player and Clementine, but lost sight of the fact that they met two days ago, with Clementine pointing a shotgun at Javier's back and holding him hostage. You don't become besties after that.
Man I can't fully agree with you. But yeah. No matter what Clem 100% for me, no matter what she does. After all we've been through with her I find it hard to believe how people can't side with her.
I honestly wasn't all that fond of her myself in The New Frontier from what I've seen of her so far.
However, I am happy that Clementine has more of a personality and a story arc that was solely missing from Season 2, and I'm willing to give her a chance to develop more.
You have to think about the fact that you are playing as Javier.Would you trade someone who lied to you and threatened you for your friend/lover Kate and Eleanor? It's a pretty obvious choice if you look at it from Javier's perspective. And that's how this game is played,so I will choose what I would choose if I were in Javier's shoes.
Don't get me wrong,I don't necessarily hate her.But it's pretty obvious that they want to make her an edgy/badass/cool/independent character, but it simply doesn't work since we've seen her from the start as a cute and easily adaptable child, and now?A ruthless person that everyone wants to be badass? It just doesn't work.Honestly,I liked Mari more.Still witty, while also a cheerful and easily loved child. If only their personalities were swapped.
Yeah man, I understand you and you're right. It's just the fact we've been with Clem for so long now, it's impossible for me not to side with her. You are right though. We're supposed to look at it asif were Javier, which maybe would be possible for me if I hadn't known Clem for 2 seasons now. But after doing my best for her and getting so attached to her as a character knowing a lot of her history what she's been through, I can't not side with her.
Truer words have never been spoken.
It's really okay!I really like your point of view and your way of playing this game.Keep it up!
If Clem dies, that's the end of TTG TWD for me. Everyone else, including Javier, is eventual canon fodder.
I rationalise it as Javi seeing something of Mari in Clem (Quick note: Telltale really likes to shorten names down to 4 letters) and after she helps him in some cases he realises that she isn't as cold blooded as she first seems. That added to the fact that she is a kid makes Javi feel inclined to protect her and I see him as just so good a guy that he would do that, also I just like to make up excuses because I love Clem too much. Damn you,Telltale! Why did you make me feel emotions!?
Lets hope she doesn't die at all. If Clem dies I will burn Telltale to the ground.
I felt really angry about covering her choice. Both choices seemed you were backing her up no matter what. Just a matter of how you say it. I said it was an accident and I thought it was meant to be that javier did it as an accident so when it turned out I wasn't backing her up . I got mad smh
Haha, yes! A reason to finally side with Clem from Javiers perspective hahaha
Cheers dude
Clem is a badass because she has basically been alone the entire apocalypse. This world changes people if there's time to do so and I personally love badass Clem. I wouldn't fuck with her ever. I'm so glad Telltake went down that road with her. Besides, she would die if she wasn't a badass.
I have to disagree with you there. She wasn't alone,at all.She was with Lee at the beginning, then Christa, then the group, then Kenny/Jane(and it doesn't matter if you choose the Kenny /Jane/alone ending, her personality is still the same).
Don't get me wrong,I'm not saying a badass character is bad.But I think there is a fine line between a badass and an over confident person, don't you think?Clem has been over confident in too many scenarios, but of course plot armour is stronk af,so she is going to come off as badass to many people.
She is a theif who stole javi candybar.
I have a feeling that Clem isn't good.
I don't want to spoil too much but I have a feeling it'll be her or us, while we are the player I suspect people won't like how Clem betrays Lee.
I have noticed how distant she has become which seems odd since playing as her in S2, what's even worse is I've supported it I'm telling her to go off on her own and I'm willing to bet a lot of us trust Clem...a little too much.
I think Javi and Clem will have to have a fight, maybe Clem believes Javi will shoot AJ and maybe Clem has done something to piss Javi off (shoot Gabe) I hope.
I dunno why but I would kinda like it, at the end maybe she spouts some words Lee has told her (would be cute).
