For one that's super unsafe and dangerous and I wouldn't have been surprised if something had of happened to him and he's done that multiple times now, just stormed off in anger without realizing the consequences.
Him being foreshadowed as someone closer to Clementine as a friend also plays a part in it as well, I want what's best for my Clem and I don't think Gabe is all that, he can't really control his emotions as can be clearly shown and isn't a good person for Clem to be with.
But yes you're super correct that most people aren't liking him because they're foreshadowing him to be the boyfriend of Clementine and that just isn't gonna go down good in some peoples minds.

If an Apocalypse comes to the earth someday, there will be lots of Ben's, Nick's and Gabe's, because that's what normal people could become. The badass and loved characters are too good to be true.

He's only 13 years old. I know Clem have the same age, but she's the protagonist, you know? Of course she's badass. But I think Gabe will learn some things with her and other people. See a "meh" character turning into a better one is a good experience, I think.

Okay, I don't get this "This person is dumb/timid/unlucky/not-very-badass=should've died out already" mindset at all. Pretty much all the examples we have had a justification for being around the way they were: Ben really was around at the start of the apocalypse and he was a part of groups that at least knew how to keep a low profile, Nick had Pete and Luke pushing him to be able to do certain things like hunting and shooting, and Clementine, Duck, Sarah, Arvo, Mariana, and Gabe all had guardians that were either perfectly capable of defending them and/or an environment where trouble doesn't arrive that much. Honestly, I think Gabe in particular gets the worst of it because its implied that he and Mariana at the very least received some combat training and briefing about what to do in certain situations and yet, I see plenty of people ragging on him for screwing things up when he's done very little of that in comparison.

Except that Max is actually more compliant with you if you bring Clementine, not demanding you to get on your knees and just to drop your weapons. This means that having Clementine as a captive actually does matter to NF.
Also, I don't get how people can call Javier and Clementine friends, or rather why they are written to act as such. They met because Clem robbed Javier and held him at gunpoint for hours, then expected him to cover up her dumb mistake in the bar. And hours later Clem and Javier act as if they've been best buddies for years.
he's called my Javier a coward
Well, yeah. He's sacrificing [Gabe's] first friend that he has made in the outbreak in some crazy pla… moren that will not even work, if you have common sense. Why would they even want Clem after she killed many of their men? Just having Clem in their group just solidifies that Javi's group are apart of the many deaths of their men, therefore would just end any negotiations deals that can ever occur. Javi and the group are blessed that they weren't shot on site.

"That's not how it works!"
Him and Mariana lived pretty sheltered lives compared to Clem, they had their original van and Kate and Javi there the whole time!
It's also pretty obvious that he wasn't given much responsability from Javi or Kate bc of Kate's reminder to "stay clost to javi" when they go investigate the house/ambulance. If she even has to say that to him I doubt he's been taken along or given any dangerous missions like clem had to do constantly in season 2.

I'm actually hoping that just TellTale's good writing is coming in to play with the whole boyfriend thing. At 13, hell even now at 18, any guy around my age that I was seen holding a conversation with or being friends with was always fodder for adults to tease me about my "boyfriend". I have a close friend of mine whose a guy and I can't even post instagram pictures of us together without some relative texting my mom asking about my new boyfriend.
Adults always assume if you meet someone your own age, of opposite gender, and hold a conversation with them you guys like each other. I'm hoping TellTale is just showing how dumb this when people do this.
I like Gabe and Clem interactions bc I really like the idea of them both connecting with someone their own age, it would be intresting to see both of their views on the world going to shit. Plus that rough age group tend to thrive on peer social interaction. Clem might be the exception but you get the idea.

I still don't see why people will think Gabe and Clem will ever be a thing, their personalities are a huge difference, Clem isn't open to almost any type of relationship it seems right now, it does appear she's warming up to Javier as a friend though. Gabe is immature, an edgelord, a liability, and he's honestly just a horrible survivor. Clementine is kind, helpful, community driven, morals high, intelligent, and can manage herself. I hope you see why many people wouldn't want that relationship occurring, or the mere thought of it. It won't happen, good, but other than the whole disgusting relationship notion, I honestly just hate Gabe as a character for the reasons listed previously. Hopefully he dies by the end of the season. If Clem gets in an actual relationship, I doubt it'll happen this season, and they better make it someone we actually think would be a good match, not some annoying teen who can't even earn his respect.
by sheltered I didn't mean to the extent Sarah went through but compared to clem, who's literally been alone taking care of herself and infant/toddler, they are pretty sheltered.
From what we know so far I think we can assume Javi and Kate have taken most of the brunt of the worst stuff, not so much that the kids are naive but we can assume they're not as hardened as clem who has, say, been kidnapped by cannibals or seen a man's face get caved in (determinate).
When you shoot Conrad Gabe is horrified, he says how he knew it had to be done but it stills "feels different". Clem on the other hand accidently killed a man and makes up a plausible cover story seconds afterward and has yet to express any guilt over the act, sure he was a grade A dick but killing another human being should be a jarring experience.

I think he's got a lot of potential and room to develop. He's an inexperienced, moody teenager who's been mostly under other people's protection so he's not as competent as he should be at this point in the apocalypse. And that's where ideally Javi's guidance should come in like Kate asked of him - he wants to be a man, make him a man. Teach him how to get by and survive.
It's a different dynamic than Lee/Clem because Gabe is older so I figure it could still be interesting. I'm eager to see what they do with him.
Unless they drop the ball and just kill him without exploring his potential. I still remember Sarah.
I don't hate him, but people hate him b/c he's acts like a spoiled brat. The way he is was acceptable at the start of the apocalypse. By the time Javi and them meet Clementine, it's at least 4 yrs into the end of the world...he should be more like Clementine or even Carl Grimes by now. But he hasn't had to be b/c he's still got a family that treats him as a child.

Shipping aside, I actually like Gabe.

I'm not one to complain much but Sarah had a lot of potential that they just wasted for who knows what reasons. The least cruel of her deaths is also the worst of the two in terms of writing, it's a mess. I hope they do better with Gabe. Even if they're vastly different characters, the potential they both had is the same.

I don't get it either. For a teenage boy he tries hard to grow up fast and he does seem a lot more mature than other lame characters like Ben and Nick. Remember he pushed Kate to save her from a worst fate than death though I do think she might die later. Got a lot more balls than Ben and isn't a nervous twitchy trigger finger like Nick.
I really fucking hate Nick and for Ben he's just kind of sad.
I don't agree with the whole "anyone stupid/weak/insert-insult-here would be dead by now" thing either. In my eyes, that's not realistic, just social darwinistic garbage.

Clem's badass b/c she hasn't been coddled and has had to not only take care of herself, but an infant/toddler. It has nothing to do with her being the protagonist.

While I do feel that Gabe somewhere and somehow might be related to Ben (JOKING), he still has a lot of people I feel and hopefully Telltale won't just kill off him and his potential like many of the other characters in the series..
The least cruel of her deaths is also the worst of the two in terms of writing, it's a mess.
Yeah, still the worst moment of the Season, if not the whole series, from a writing standpoint. And even worse is the fact that it didn't have to be.
I'm scared they'll just repeat the same mistake again.I'm not one to complain much but Sarah had a lot of potential that they just wasted for who knows what reasons. I hope they do better with Gabe.
Oh, I sincerely doubt they'd do that. If anything, I'd say that a combination of the backlash regarding Nick and Sarah's treatment, the much more focused storytelling so far, and Gabe's own relationship with Javier and David should ensure that they don't.
Even if they're vastly different characters, the potential they both had is the same.
I suppose. See, I personally believe any idea or character has potential for success and this here is why I don't the reuse of concepts or agree with the whole "Season2characterB is just a Season1characterA ripoff!" mentality that was going around. Gabe, for comparison's sake, is something of a composite character for Nick and Sarah but he still has enough of a distinction to him that this comparison isn't even that widespread, as far as I've seen. If anything, the similarities can make the discussion about the differences even more interesting.

Yeah, you'd think that would matter more, what with the whole #ClementineisBadass vibe and the "this character isn't badass enough" mentality some people have. No offense.

I just think some people dislike that he is going to go out with Clementine.
Is he really? All Javier, Conrad, and Tripp did was joke around about the whole "teen boy and teen girl=love" thing and all we've seen of the two so far is Clementine checking up on him after he had to draw his gun to defend someone and Gabe stand up for her when Conrad wanted to use her as a bargaining chip for her sketchiness. Honestly, it's just people being "overprotective" and/or getting mad about nothing, as far as I can tell.
I don't think a vast majority of people hate him, I just think some people dislike that he is going to go out with Clementine.
However, I want it to happen, because then that would mean Clementine most likely would not get killed off.
Oh, I agree that both deaths are pretty awful; it's just that the first, while cruel in theory, at least has them talk about her and mourn for a bit. The second one is literally just "Sarah's dead, oh well. Hey, look, a baby!"
Still wasted potential at the end of the day, though.
I'm optimistic about it because they've had around two years to learn from it but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. Kenny and Jane were very disappointing this season.
I agree with the notion that characters aren't ripoffs; if that was the case then people would be clones of each other in real life because a lot of us act similarly as it is.
I suppose my idea of "he has a lot of potential" is along the lines of me expecting him to become a very relevant character through his development, if that makes sense? As in, a lot of characters can undergo development but it's undeniable that some are more "important" to the overall game than others and I kind of expect things out of him with the way they've set him up.
I understand what you mean, though!

Yeah, especially given her friendship with Clementine, her "rivalry" with Jane, and the similar storylines going on with Luke, Kenny, and Arvo.
Kenny and Jane were very disappointing this season.
Jane more than Kenny, but still.

And it was Clementine the one who approached him in the first place. A girl of his same age approached him and started talking, what are everyone expecting him to do?
I bet that Gabriel would have a lot less haters if that scene where he and Clem are talking hadn't shown up.
I don't get it either - he's just a kid that's been through WAY too much for his age, kinda like Clementine.
Now that I think about it, I think that people are starting to hate him just because he's a possible LI for Clementine.....

I'd assume it's because he initially seems too much like Ben on Nick. The key difference, though, is Ben and Nick were supporting characters. It seems like they're building Gabe up to be one of the main characters, so I'd assume he's gonna get some serious character development over the next couple of episodes.
There's also the whole "might have a thing for Clementine" thing, but I feel like that has to be exaggerated. I get wanting to be overprotective of Clementine in the context of the story, but that's kind of a dumb reason to not like a character in my opinion.
Also, I guess semi-related, did anyone else hate how we didn't really get to talk to Gabe during any of the quieter moments so far? It's been either a short line or two when we do get a chance to talk to him, or he'll be in the scene but we can't go over and start a conversation. I wanna like this kid, since it seems he may be a major character in later episodes, but Telltale hasn't really given me a chance yet.
People are saying Gabe is growing up to be a lot like David, I think that was mentioned somewhere in the game but so far I don't know where he's like his dad. His dad seemed like a bully but Gabe seemed like the kid to get bullied so I don't really see that.
Let's also not forget that his sister was killed right in front of him, after that he asked Javier to help him become a man quick, this shows he's attempting to take responsibility for others, that's an important sign that he's growing up faster than other teens. He seems to express himself a lot more with his sister who was likely his outlet. I'm surprised he didn't break. I think his interaction with Clem could be a good thing because she could fill that void he has when he lost his sister. Not a lot of kids his age could be around.

Agreed.
Shipping aside, I actually like Gabe.
Agreed.
Yeeeah, dropped so hard, it fell out the sack three times over.
I'm scared they'll just repeat the same mistake again.
I don't hate Gabe, but if he looks at my daughter wrong he a dead boy.
I don't think a vast majority of people hate him, I just think some people dislike that he is going to go out with Clementine.
However, I want it to happen, because then that would mean Clementine most likely would not get killed off.
I'm referring Gabe's reaction to why he called Javi a coward.
Yeah, still the worst moment of the Season, if not the whole series, from a writing standpoint. And even worse is the fact that it didn't have to be.
Oh, I sincerely doubt they'd do that. If anything, I'd say that a combination of the backlash regarding Nick and Sarah's treatment, the much more focused storytelling so far, and Gabe's own relationship with Javier and David should ensure that they don't.
No offense.
Jane more than Kenny, but still.
>
Same here!
I don't get it either - he's just a kid that's been through WAY too much for his age, kinda like Clementine.
Now that I think about it, I think that people are starting to hate him just because he's a possible LI for Clementine.....
And it was Clementine the one who approached him in the first place. A girl of his same age approached him and started talking, what are everyone expecting him to do?
I bet that Gabriel would have a lot less haters if that scene where he and Clem are talking hadn't shown up.
True that
I'd assume it's because he initially seems too much like Ben on Nick.
The reason I don't like him is because he comes off to me as a obnoxious typical edgy teenager with a shoehorn ed romantic crush.
Personally I think Gabe is more like Javi. The way he sees the world. I'd compare his temper to David's if anything.
