Teenage Clem is as smart as a first grader ..?

It just came to my thought that clementine hasn't been in school since the apocalypse started. I'm just laughing to the thought that she can smash an army of walkers alone but she probably can't do simple division.

Maybe Javi or someone might teach her some things later on??

    42/0=...?

  • Im sure that Lee, Christa and Omid home schooled her.

  • Why would they? It's not like they found history and math books inside the belly of some zombies.

They probably focused on survival techniques, for example how to sew clothes and wounds, how to hunt, how to recognize edible plants or build a bonfire.

  • She is not as educated as a Second Grader. She seems very smart to me.

  • She is clever, but lacks book learning after grade 1...that is not to say she has not been studying anything. She may have read books and magazines....knows how to field strip firearms with the best of them.

Thing is...even if she gets to a place where she can learn...would she enjoy it as much. After all she has led a very active lifestyle....slowing down could bore her to death.

  • It wouldn't be hard to teach her a bit of math and reading. I mean, why wouldn't they when they had some downtime? Those things would help her survive too.

  • If they had time, sure. But we don't know what happened during that 16 months timeskip. Sadly.

  • First, the word is knowledgeable. Smart and knowledgeable are not the same thing.

Second, not knowing the standard curriculum is not the same as not getting knowledge. She may not know math, but I bet she can tell you what plants are edible, how to field dress, minor surgery, weapons, unarmed combat, all skills well beyond a first grader.

  • Being book smart isn't what keeps you alive in TWD so honestly she probably doesn't even need it anymore.

  • but I bet she can tell you what plants are edible, how to field dress, minor surgery, weapons, unarmed combat, all skills well beyond a first grader.

Honestly I think knowing these things are more important than knowing math with invisible numbers or how to spell big words which she will never need to use.

  • I disagree. Book smarts are good and neccessary if they ever want to come back from the brink.

She'd have to find a real community before studying engineering becomes useful though.

I hardly think it's a problem that you can't figure out the cubic volume of a cylinder when you're living in the apocalypse.

Clem wouldn't have been in first grade when the outbreak started (unless she failed), since the writers made an error. She would have most likely been in 3rd or 4th grade instead.

I don't even think she needs a regular education like math and spelling, I mean it's an apocalypse. She needs to know how to read a map, sew, and hunt more than anything else. Her survival depends on these things. Unless she were to find a stable community where education is available, I do not think she needs schooling.

  • I've always been of the mind that street smarts are more valuable than book smarts. Not that it's useless, but skills and knowledge you can apply to any situation are more valuable imo.

  • i dont think it would be a problem not knowing the cubic volume of a cylinder even if it werent the apocalypse lol

School is overrated anyway. A private teacher or your own private teaching from books etc. is way more efficient for your own time. I wouldn't go to school if it wasn't mandatory for work.

  • honestly same
i still havent used slope to find anything in the real world //

  • Nor the even longer timeskip if she stays with Kenny.

  • She's as smart as the plot demands her to be.

  • omg The plot nazis attack again.

  • Holy shit, you JUST realized that?! XD

I'm so sorry, but I thought about Clem's education back in season 2 and I find this rather amusing. No offence intended

  • I know.

It would seem Telltale hates plot the same way actual Nazis hated Jews.

omg The plot nazis attack again.

  • I think we should look at stuff not like: "the plot demands this or that", but actually "how much sense does that make?"

I know. It would seem Telltale hates plot the same way actual Nazis hated Jews.

  • She does like math. Not as much as killing zombies and watching her companions be torn apart though.

  • I love your name.

  • Otherwise we can justify everything with "THE WRITERS WANTED IT"

  • Why hasn't that been explored, yet. I feel that her having a 1st grade education is something that should be explored. It feels like a plot hole to me. How did she read that tape in the ski lounge?

  • but actually "how much sense does that make?"

Well very little has so far, so I think the plot being a culprit as to the sloppiness is pertinent in this case.

  • Aren't you around age 10 when you're in fourth grade? I think second grade or third grade would've been the age of an 8 - 9 year old.

  • She was already pretty smart for her age, even back in the first season. And she's clearly learned a good bit as she's quite level-headed and has known how to get around by herself the last few years before she met Javi.

Heck she's probably smarter than me, which granted isn't saying much but still!

I was 7 when I was in second grade. Third grade is usually 8 - 9 years old and fourth grade is 9 - 10 years old, so I would say that Clem would be in third grade at least.

  • her eduacation in season 2 wouldnt have been that much different since she was still pretty young, so it wasn't that big of a deal and no one would really care about it. The only thing anyone cared about in s2 was clems survival and probably still in mourning for lee

It only started to worry me now since she's much older. almost my age and i know alot of useless book solving techniques. It interested me to the thought that she (luckily) didn't have to learn all of that and probably survived longer than a generic assistance that spent their life in school to work at an office.

Holy shit, you JUST realized that?! XD I'm so sorry, but I thought about Clem's education back in season 2 and I find this rather amusing. No offence intended

  • Eh, I'm pretty sure Lee taught her about History (since he is a history professor) but, other than that it probably had been mostly survival skills and knowledge.

Lol, maybe once the outbreak is over she can go to school again, she did want to go to college after all.

  • I've actually thought about it and it could help add a more light hearted scene they could add to the season

Javi throwing a book of instructions at clem in a panic, she just has to read the instructions to shut off the thing that's making noise or whatever that's attracting walkers. Obviously everyone's freaking out and I can imagine clem being like "no you read it, I'll hold off the walkers" and then them arguing back and forth until clem screams out "I can't fucking read this, the last book I finished had a fucking unicorn jumping over a rainbow!"

  • I would pay extra to see that
