What Do You Feel About People Writing Their Own Versions Of ANF?

Do you like it, dislike it, or are you indifferent about it? I personally like it. I mean, I should since I am writing my own version. But I'm rather interested in what other people think about it.

  • People are free to make their own fanfictions but personally it's annoying me.

  • I don't care about it personally but I don't really see why anyone would in the first place. I mean, it doesn't really harm anyone if someone is making a fanfic/different version of the story :p

  • We all were hurt by the first episodes of Season 3. And if we believe we can create better stories and give characters better roles, so be it.

  • I'll take anything that won't give me a horribly written flashback to get out of actually doing something meaningful with Season Two's endings. So, yeah, a fanfiction is fine, I suppose.

And no, I cannot get over how horrible my flashback was.

  • I wasn't hurt...other than in the feels.

I feel you. Even though I haven't played it, seeing what would happen with Jane. I still can't get over. Plus, I saw all the others.
Aside from being alone, everything is a waste. That upsets me.

  • The feels indeed. Been almost a month and I still try to block out what happened with Jane.

    I just don't understand.

I'm upset at the passing of Carley, Chuck, Omid and all of the Cabin Group but this one female...because I feel she and me are a lot alike. With the gruff demeanor and not very social, but caring (the choice with hiding AJ notwithstanding). Plus, I defended her tooth and nail in the past, and what happened. That was what my faith rewarded me?

    I wasn't hurt...other than in the feels.

  • I couldn't believe the garbage I had just witnessed even though in the back of my mind I always knew what was coming.

  • It's like no thought was given. How different play through stories could've gone.

What is really concerning for me is that they KNEW people would be mad. We've been complaining about for years. They had TWO years to work on this game and they came up with that trash. They act as if people will just buy the game no matter what, so fuck it. What a shame to see such a talented company let laziness get the best of them. Laziness and being greedy, actually. They always want to work on like 4 games at the same time.

  • So true, negligence is something I find unforgivable.

So, in some previous posts, I've decided to take it upon myself and craft my own story. Feeling I KNOW I can do better.

  • Why thank you. But it's still a work in progress. Pre Production planning. Plus I have some other tales I wish to do first but this Season 3 will become a reality.

And thankfully you are not alone. There are others. And you have my thanks for wishing to see it.

I just ask for your patience. I shall present it in due time.

  • Do what you want, people. I'm sure there's going to be a fic that will be better than ANF.

  • Good luck with it then, pal.

  • Is there? So far, I've just seen rewrites of the flashbacks in my episode rewrite thread and in other threads to fix their personal issues with it.

Personally, I've been enjoying ANF well enough so far and would rather wait to see how things wrap up to see if a rewrite would truly be necessary.

I like it. Anything that brings people more joy out of something they really care about, whether it's books, movies, games, etc. gets a plus from me. I love reading all the stories that people come up with, especially if they're done well. I have a feeling I'm going to be amazed at some of the things people put together.

And it doesn't necessarily have to be about the flashbacks, either. Sure they were less than stellar, but I'd be just as interested in reading something about the years leading up to where we are now with Javier's family, like how they were surviving in a van for so long, and whether they encountered any real communities before stumbling upon Prescott. Giving some backstory to things we don't know about is a great way to add to the whole experience, even if it is from different people's perspectives.

As for the whole season... well, if people have the time and the energy, then yeah. Might be a bit of a big project to tackle, but the payoff would be worth it.

  • Honestly, I couldn't agree more!

  • I don't see the issue with it honestly. I wrote one of my own for Season 2 as well as a prequel semi novel of it. I think it shows care and interest in it if they're willing to write fanfiction. Writing your own version of it doesn't mean you dislike it

  • Ha, I don't expect anyone to get over the Kenny and Jane flashbacks, since they were pretty bad.

  • I had the Wellington one and it was trash too.

  • Just harmless fanfictions, i don't personally mind.

  • It just feels like people are saying "Telltale sucks, watch me do it better"

If you don't mind me asking, could you explain why it annoys you?

  • I'm pretty sure nobody ever writes a fan fiction with the intention of "i can do it better". I'm pretty sure it's mostly just to tell a non-canon story with the characters from the work you're basing it off of.

  • I don't mean fanfiction overall. Just in this particular instance.

  • Again, I don't think it even applies to right now. I don't think anyone thinks they can do it better, they just feel the story should have gone a different way.

I'm honestly sick to death of this idea that just because someone criticizes something or wishes the story was tweaked means that they think they could do it better. I fucking hate Suicide Squad and I'll criticize it to the moon and back with how bad it is, and even suggest ways it COULD have been good, but do I think I could do it better? Hell no. That movie had actually good actors and shit and a fucking production value. I've got 2 dollars to my name and like 3 friends, no way in hell I could make it better. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna criticize it.

Same goes for fan fictions I write. I constantly come up with ideas for how RWBY could change it's story and make more sense, as well as add some really interesting things in there. Do I think my ideas are better than the actual show? No. Do I think I could do it better had I been given the resources? No. But it's damn fun writing an idea for what could have been. Most people who I've seen criticize or rewrite the first two episodes of ANF just want to do it for fun or do it because they feel certain flaws need to be called out, and not one of them I've seen claims they can do it better because it's pretty obvious that one cynical asshole loaded with opinions trying to top an entire team of writers, animators and actors isn't gonna go well.
