Was it really necessary to have THAT conversation with Clem.

Seriously, was I the only one who was uncomfortable during that whole exchange? I really did not want to have a discussion about Clem having her period in this episode. Is it a natural thing that all women go through, sure, did it need to be in the game, not really. It would have been weird having this discussion with pretty much anyone else, but to have it with Clem, who we've known since she was 8, who we protected and became a father figure towards as Lee, who we controlled and helped come into her own in Season 2, it just made it kind of awkward.

  • Sorry, I don't get what you're trying to say.

  • That's what we get for asking if Clem's alright! It's all our fault!

Moral of the story - never help anyone. Ever.

  • Eh, honestly I didn't really find it too awkward. If anything, helping explain stuff like that to her would kinda further cement the player's "parent/guardian" role throughout the Seasons (ignoring that Javi is more of a friend in New Frontier - I'm speaking in a more broad sense across all games).

Think of it this way - if you as the player were attached to having a "parent/guardian" role over Clem, would you rather that you be the one to have input in how Clem learns important things like this, or would you rather leave it in the hands of someone else?

  • Did you not get that in your game? Clementine starts talking about how she's "bleeding" and Javi has to basically talk about a girl's menstrual cycle. Hell, you can even find a thing of maxi pads in one of the drawers.

  • It was uncomfortable but realistic.

  • AAAHHH, the pain she was feeling when she is with Javi in the hospital. Now I gotcha. But I never heard of this menstrual cycle. What does that do?

  • This was actually one of the better moments in the episode. I thought it was handled well, considering the man probably didn't expect to have this conversation with her at all.

  • I'm 12 and what is this.

  • AAAHHH, now I gotcha. Now I see it. This is the first awkward dialogue since Season 1 Episode 1.

  • You apparently didnt get that. It perfectly fits into the game since its gonna be like it or not a memorable moment. Everybody(at least my friends) who played it talk about it.

  • And I acknowledged that it is natural and realistic, doesn't necessarily mean I think it should be included nor does it justify it's uncomfortableness.

    It was uncomfortable but realistic.

  • I don't see a problem. Clementine experiences something all young women do and Javier happen to ask how she is as she's experiencing it, therefore creating a situation where Javier as an adult can explain it to her.

  • Now we know why the episode's called Thicker Than Water.

  • But considering how he's only known her for a couple of days and being forced into a very uncomfortable discussion with her, I'm just not sure why Telltale would honestly think this is such a good idea. I know it's something all women go through, but along with the relatively short time span Clem and Javi have known each other, don't you think Clem would feel a bit more comfortable talking about it with another female? Even with her little knowledge on the subject matter, she knows enough to say that she knew other women went through it, so she knows it's something they know more about.

  • But you acknowledged the problem with that early in your post, Javi is more of a friend, one who she's only known for a couple of days, and yet she's talking about something that even she knows is something only women go through and is very personal. I'm not saying men aren't capable of having this conversation, but it would have made more sense for Clem to have it with someone else who does go through it, like Eleanor or even Kate. So honestly, yeah, I would prefer to leave it someone else, someone who has a better understanding of the subject matter.

I appreciate the gesture, but it was a joke. I'm not 12 and I know what a period is lmao.

And of all the things Telltale saw us discussing about the game and what we wanted to see in it, THAT'S what they decided to include.

And again, while it may add a sense of realism and what's happening to her is natural, having Javi, a person she's known for a couple of days, be the one to discuss this with here puts him, and us as a player, who have seen her grow up in this world, into a very uncomfortable position.

Dude how uh... I mean, do they not teach this in school? Like, in 5th grade? Wut?

  • She was in pain and we asked such a weird complaint.

  • Honestly might've been my favorite moment in the episode.

I like it precisely because we were a father figure to Clem, this is exactly the kind of conversation you'd have as a dad if the mother isn't around. In Javi's case he was just helping out a kid he cared about, in the zombie apocalypse where she needs to know these things and the info isn't readily available. There wasn't a female around and even then, Javi is probably the only person Clem would trust enough to talk about these things with, other then possibly Ava.

I also thought it to be cute, more than awkward :)
I was happy to help Clem and have another awesome scene with her :D

  • I didnt mind it. It actually makes sense because a parental figure will end up having that conversation with their daughter. And if you feel like you became a parent figure for Clem, then it would just make sense for her to ask you.

  • Spot on. This scene actually added to her character.

I think it was a nice way of reminding us that Clementine is still just a girl, even though she has had to mature very fast, she is still just 13, and doesnt know about this stuff

  • I honestly believe the whole purpose of the scene is to show that Clem already felt like a mom. This whole season shows that Clem acts towards AJ as if she's his mother. When the New Frontier exiled Clem in the flash back, they continuously refered to AJ as "your boy". The whole menstruation scene was for Javi to tell her that she is now able to become a mother if she wanted to. To that she replies "I already felt like a mom", then we enter the flash back that enforces this idea.

But considering how he's only known her for a couple of days and being forced into a very uncomfortable discussion with her, I'm just not su

  • It's placed in the wrong scene at the wrong time. It's not even a cute moment between friends since Javier and Clem barely have a 3 diemensional relationship.

  • LOL I remember the thread where someone asked about how Clem handles her period. I remember that 90% of the responses were "does it matter? Its a game!". In comes telltale this episode and says "THIS is how she's handling it".

  • What's weird is that Clem's spent 16 months with Christa and they've never discussed about periods and menstruating between them girls, while Christa was supposed to teach and show Clementine all the things Lee didn't have the time or knowledge to explain.

  • Sigh... Okay. I'll humor you. This should clear things up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cycle

  • I will say that all the time leading up to this season...all anyone had said was....they better not do anything to Clementine because she is like our child. LoL...guess what...if you ever have one of us female models...you will have this conversation!

So I found it kinda cute...and realistic because of the bad timing.

  • She had no idea what is was/meant so she just asked javi an adult who I guess she assumed would know something. Plus she talked to kate after so
