Will choosing Gabe's fate work in the end?

I know a lot of people want to choose Gabe's fate in the final episode. However, I don't think this will work out from a story telling perspective. Since we are playing as Javi, there is no reason why Javi would choose anyone else over his nephew (even if its between Clem, Kate or David). Even though Gabe made a dumb move by exposing Javi to the group, I do not believe Javi would consider this in choosing to keep Gabe alive. Javi also does not strike me as the type of person to hold a grudge.

The only way I could see this working is if Mari was still alive. Only then would it make sense for Javi to potentially let Gabe die. Other than that I do not think Javi would purposely let Gabe get killed. These are just my thoughts though. I don't believe we will see a [Save Gabe] [Let Gabe Die] choice in the finale. Or if you think differently, how do you think Telltale could make choosing Gabe's fate work?

  • The only way they could do this is in a similar fashion with Conrad in Above the Law. And given that he still has stuff to resolve with Kate, David, and Clementine, I doubt it'll even get that far.

They most likely won't do that and honestly, it'd be the smarter option for a time spending standpoint.

  • The choice between Ava and Tripp really didn't make sense from Javier's perspective. Choose between a stranger your brother knows or your friend that you know.

  • More like my friend of a few days or my brother's friend since this all started.

  • if kate somehow survives . i would enjoy a choice between the both of them. it would be a hard choice for sure

  • Both you have little stake in.

  • Eh, YMMV.

  • It makes a bit of sense if you killed Conrad and Tripp loses his shit, he says he doesn't want to see you around him anymore for killing his friend (which was pointing a gun at two kids and can kill both Gabe and Javi). That's why I chose Ava the first time I played the episode, because I was mad at Tripp, but if you didn't kill Conrad then yeah makes no sense unless you say Ava is Clem's friend and David's lieutenant.

  • I didn't kill Conrad so I chose Tripp.
This made most sense since I knew Tripp better and we've been through a lot in a few days.

  • In the final episode of michonne you could choose to let sam die so you could hug your imagination daughters so who knows. Still though they built up gabe as such a hated character (they must intend him to be hated), as such him not dying would be odd

  • I don't think we'll get to choose Gabe's fate, I'd much rather have Gabe choosing between his dad and Javier, sorta like Clementine made her final decision in Season 1.

If I had a choice to save gabe or not I would simply let him die like Ben....and no I won't replay the game to see what happens to him becuase.................
Idc and I won't even watch him survive at any playthrough he's that annoying to me tbh

  • That sounds interesting, but would that mean we have to play as Gabe in the next season?

    • As long as kate is alive

    • and doesnt have a determinete status then its fine she has SOOO much potential sparked upon her after ep4.

back to the question, i think telltale should have some choices where Gabe could die eitherway- just shows you cant always save everyone. Who knows will see.
i guess tho it is YOUR javi so its up to you what u think about gabes fate like you could have a scenerio where David and Ava/Tripp are surrounded aand on the other hand you have Gabe whos just flopping trying to show off.
who do you save then? Gabe or Brother and ___

  • No, I don't think so, Gabe still doesn't have enough development to become a new protagonist, plus they just introduced Javier so it would be advanced stupidity to kill him off or move him away from the spotlight after the season ends.

I can see it now. You and 99% of players chose to let Gabe die.

  • I hope Gabe fucking dies.

  • I'm sure that number isn't too far off but the point I am trying to make is that it wouldn't make sense from a story telling perspective. While the players themselves might want to let Gabe die, it would not make sense for Javi to do so. Imagine if we had the choice to let Clementine die in season 1 (Of course I know almost no one would let her die lol). Would it even make sense for Lee to choose that option? Of course it wouldn't. The same thing goes for Javi.

That's why I am asking, how can they make it work so the player can choose his fate, should the choice be left up to the player?

  • Yeah, let's make the worst possible character the new protagonist, sounds like a real good idea, I'd honestly rather play an entire season as Joan.
