Which ending is more true to the story?
On my first playtrough I got the ending where Kate and Gabe live, but it felt kind of underwhelming, and I liked the motorcycle scene with Clem way more. What do you guys think?

I think both are acceptable.
If you felt more close to Gabe, you should have the David alive ending.
If you care most about Kate, the Kate and Gabe ending is more relevant.
I think the most fitting ending is saving Gabe and David, and convincing David to come back to Richmond. Going after them has that scene of Javier taking on that whole group of walkers by himself, which is something of a parallel to Lee fighting his way to the Marsh House. It also goes with the seemingly forgotten tagline of ANF-- "When family is all you have left, how far will you go to protect it?"
Beyond that, it also goes along with the driving force of the episode in particular-- David and Javier's relationship finally coming to a head. You're ultimately able to reconcile your differences with David in the end; uphold your promise to your father, as well as essentially pulling David back from the brink. He was on a path of self-destruction throughout episode 5, culminating in his attempt to drive away with Gabe, practically driving the two of them straight into their demise. In a sense, you save him literally and figuratively if you went after him, which is pleasantly poetic.
I think the second most fitting would be Kate and Gabe alive when you don't romance Kate. Instead of having her just brush off David's death all like "let's start a family just after you lost your brother!", she decides to keep her distance. A rift in their relationship has most definitely formed, and that feels more fitting to the world of TWD in comparison to the picturesque ending when you romanced Kate-- asking to start a family, brushing off David's death a mere three days after the fact, and then the ending with Kate and Javi hugging as they wave goodbye to Clem, like some big happy family that didn't just suffer a relatively big loss in the form of David. That, and running opposite to the ending described above, you ultimately aren't able to save your brother from himself in the end. It's a tragic story in its own right, even without factoring in the fact that he died as well. But there's also some finality and closure in that version of David's death-- in some twisted way, I suppose you could consider it a happy ending for the guy. He ultimately got his wish; a soldier's death. Going down with a fight, out in the field. No fanfare or ceremony. Just alive and kicking one second, and a body on the ground the next. It's one of the few times where I think the decision to make it an off-screen death actually worked. It's a sendoff that most definitely suited David's character in the end.
You're right, when I played the ending where David lives I felt like it was more fitting to the universe( and the scene with Javi and Clem on the motorcycle was awesome)
That would make the two of us sir!
Imo, I prefer the ending where both David and Gabe die. It had so much emotion, which a Walking Dead ending should have. David's death was okay and Kate's offscreen death was stupid. But Gabe's death was probably the best this whole season in terms of emotion.
David and Gabe surviving. From the beginning, ANF was heavily centred on the relationship between the brothers and the idea of doing anything and everything to keep your family safe. I feel like it made more sense for Javi to go after Gabe and a volatile David rather than attempt to save a community he's only been in for the past 2 days. With this ending, he could also have some closure with David. In the other endings, your last interaction was a huge fight borne over a (determinant) misunderstanding. It's a pretty sad note to finish a relationship with.
I also feel like Javi would regret not going after his family a lot more than regretting not going after Richmond, esp considering the latter would have been saved either way.
Any of them but the Gabe dying one, that just doesn't seem right.
I think the ending where Javier and Gabe live, David dies, and Kate becomes unknown is the best for several reasons:
I can't get this ending though because my Clem decided to go after Gabe , and I don't want to play EP 3-4-5 all over again.
This makes it the most interesting ending
Yeah you'd have to go back as far as episode 2, since Clementine's decision is based on her flashbacks in 2 and 3. Still, I really like this ending. It feels like the true Walking Dead ending.
IMO the ending that would be the best for the story is the one in which:
Gabe lives, because child's perspective in the post-apocalyptic world is still rare and full of opportunities.
Kate dies, because she did almost nothing except inciting the fight, causing the general commotion and drama, she also was a terribly written damsel in distress; Her only purpose was to trigger this awful love triangle and I believe the story is better off without her.
David leaves Javier after he realizes he will always be a soldier and "soldiers don't have a family". He begins to understand he is unstable, capable of hurting his loved ones, and most importantly, his fury and rage are out of control.
I think the best (not necessarily the "good") ending is with David and Gabe surviving. Firstly it gives you a better experience. I personally feel that in the ending with Kate it just feels like there's something missing. You don't get the full enjoyment you can possibly get. The scene where Javi goes after Gabe is so damn epic and really gets you pumped up. The desperation in Javi's voice as he tries to save Gabe really gets you invested in the struggle and it kinda feels like you're fighting a losing battle which makes it so much more awesome. Javi sounds so tired and worn out when he says "That's it, focus on me! Argh... come on!" Oh and that scream when he kills the last Muerto was great. 10/10 voice acting in that whole scene. You get a great scene with Gabe where he's shocked that you came after him despite how he's acted in the past and that scene with David where you talk to David about their father and try to convince him to come back with you. Lastly there's that tragic scene where you find Kate as a Muerto. What makes this so tragic is Javi's reaction. He looks so devastated to find his friend/lover like this and if he shoots her, he completely loses it and falls to his knees and screams. Then David returns but you're not sure if things with him will ever be the same. So you successfully kept the family together but lost Kate and David refuses to speak to you. Then you have that great scene with Gabe where you talk about loss. It's a real shame that you miss out on this in the ending with Kate. So with this ending you get a better experience and a tragic yet great ending to the Garcia's story, whereas with Kate you get to just stroll into Richmond and get to be the hero.
So to me the ending with David is clearly better and I wish I got this ending but unfortunately I felt that my Javi would save Richmond and it feels wrong to change the ending so unfortunately I missed out.
Agree 100%. Regardless of where Clementine goes, the motorcycle/bat scene is so much more harrowing than saving Richmond. And with Kate you get the Disney ending where they are able to just start over again and have babies.
You probably shouldn't just 'straight up' believe them. They said many things this season which turned out to be lies. Obviously I won't make you change your opinion, but I don't trust TT anymore.
The ending where Javier & Gabe are the sole survivors.
It's not the one which I personally like the most, but I feel like it's the most "true" TWD ending.
Kate's unknown status is "true". You don't always get the "pleasure"/certain feeling of knowing someone is dead. You're instead filled with the insecure feeling where you don't know what happened. A bit like how Ben was in Season 1. I consider it to be very realistic.
David dying and making peace with Javier before his death is very impactful. They were brothers to each other in the end, despite having dysfunctional relationship before. They were lucky enough to settle things with each other before the end.
(Also, the scene where Javier fights his way through the walkers in order to get to the car is also very impactful)
Gabe shooting his father after he died is also impactful. I think it was the final step of becoming truly adapted to the apocalyptic world for Gabe.
Also, Javi & Gabe ending gives out the "Rick & Carl" vibes from the comics, which is pretty much the foundation of the comics, which is the original The Walking Dead series.
I think the days of those egregious lies are largely in the past
I had the Kate ending as well, and when I saw the David ending on youtube I realized how much I've missed out, and it felt like a real TWD ending. Like you, what I liked the most about this ending is the scene with Gabe in the church, and the awesome motorcycle scene which is one of my favourites of this season. I think that the next time I play , I will make this my canon ending for season 4. I just hope Telltale will handle all this endings better than they did with Kenny/Jane.
It feels like let your child die over a woman.
Gabe and David lives in my ending, I didn't get much emotions from Kate's death.
Yes also in terms like feeling an asshole to let my nephew I knew since he was born die. I had raised him for 4 years as my own child and let him die over a woman.
This my experience after this choice and I had tears.
Totally agreed.
I think Kate's death was beautiful ending with that statue in the end and Javi screaming and suffering from his lover's death. True walking dead ending.
Probably Splitup to Save Gabe.
I will admit that the "Splitup to Save Richmond" ending, while the one I first saw online and personally like for obvious reasons, is pretty anticlimactic from the Clementine and Gabe side of things. She just walks up after Javier talks to the knights, with Gabe hanging unconscious on her shoulder. Like I'm supposed to believe that.
Meanwhile, the "Splitup to Save Gabe" ending is probably the second strongest one, even if I can't really say I gave a crap about David at that point. But Clementine apparently fucks up somewhere and Kate's disappearance, while I admit to being a little more cautiously optimistic than I think I should be at this point, leaves a door open when there's probably a wild animal on the loose.
Also, the "Teamup to Save Gabe" ending is really stupid, if I'm being blunt. I mean, I suppose I should be a little happy that Kate went out a heroine and that Gabe determinately still has his dad(for what little that's worth), but everything else is just dumb.
And the "Teamup to Save Richmond" ending bothers the fuck out of me despite arguably being the most well-handled of the endings.
The one where both Kate and Gabe survive.
Javier took care of them for 4 years, it feels proper if both of them survive the season after all.
I think all endings are good as long as it makes a real difference in season 4 or 5
But there is one ending I really didnt like...it was the one with Kate if you are couple, wanting to start a family just few days after losing Mariana and Gabe.... it was too much for me, and even worse if Javi is ok with this. Made me feel like his family meant nothing.
With this I realised Kate was a selfish skank.
I didn't like my ending, but I think it's the most fitting. Javier goes after his family, his blood, over his determinant girlfriend and a overrun city which has done nothing but screw him (and his brother) over. So he drives with a motorbike after Gabe and David, alone, and fights all these walkers single-handedly with a bat in order to get to them. However, it's not enough... and David is bitten, which leads to a powerful final scene between the siblings, where they finally make peace with one another, not to mention there's the gut wrenching moment where David looks up to the sky and says:
'Te Quero, Mariana' before smiling and saying the same of Javi.
Javi and Gabe then rush to Richmond to find Kate, but she's gone, and presumed dead. So they're alone, in a city that means nothing to them, with David dead, and Kate missing. Even Clementine goes off her separate way.
It also makes good on the notion: "Legacy is all anyone leaves behind. Figure out the kind you want."
Javi lived up to it, by honouring Kate's legacy by staying in (and determinately leading) Richmond, whilst honouring David's by looking after Gabe and providing him a place of security.
Other than that, it would be the David lives ending, but it's too half baked, and it feels so obviously set up so Telltale can go: 'see? choices matter!' When in reality, they know David will get written out of next season either by having committed suicide between them, or suffering a Kenny-like death as soon as he appears. Considering the game starts with the two brothers, not using the David lives ending as an opportunity to end it with them too (like they did with Kate) was just such an oversight, I can't see it as the true ending.
TL;DR - Kate, Gabe and Javi's ending is too happily ever after, or out of place with her wanting a family like three days after their brothers / husband / nephews / stepsons deaths. David lives is too underdeveloped. Meanwhile, Gabe and Javi alone feels about right, if again, not being the result I really wanted.
