I'd have thought if they were hoping for a September release, it would be in testing by now.
  • edited August 2009
I don't think even Telltale know the date, really. They're probably aiming for part of September and won't set an exact deadline until about 10 days before, when they're confident it'll be ready (like we want).
  • edited August 2009
I wouldn't be surprised if its released early september as this months seemed a little short.
  • edited August 2009
I'm going to take a guess at it, and say that they'll play a little catch up this month and get it released around Sept 17.
  • edited August 2009
mid sept def sounds good. theyll probably release it on a tuesday, wednesday or thursday asw so they can have some times so hotfix stuff if things go to hell before the weekend.
  • edited August 2009
I can't believe that only a few days after release, we are already bugging Telltale to tell us when the next one will be released. I mean... what? Why? Patience, people. 8D
  • edited August 2009
If you think it's easier then maybe you have the hint meter too far up?
  • edited August 2009
Honestly I'd prefer if they took their sweet time. I replay adventure games - classic ones anyway like Monkey Island - after years pass. And even now, bugs will still be annoying. The last episoide was the first TellTale game I noticed to have lots of bug issues after playing through Sam and Max S1, S2 and SBCG4AP.

Don't forget that all the extra time that went into chapter 2 because of the 2 week delay ALSO went into chapter 3 (because they are in development simultaneously.) So unless they're falling way behind, there's no need to delay again, chapter 3 has hopefully already had all the extra time it needs (if any)

Wh-wh-what?! Unfortunately, the same people who worked on chapter 2 also work on chapter 3. At the time of chapter2-production, they had scarcely any time to do anything on chapter 3.

The idea of "simultaneous development" probably applies because the episodes go through several phases of development, from initial design stage to final bugfixing. That means, while chapter 2 was bugfixed by programmers (more or less!), the animators were probably hard at work already for chapter 3 animations. However, due to lack of workforce and clear distribution of assignments for workers, two episodes can not be in the same stage of development.

Episode 3 will NOT be released on September 7. :D

This is an episodic game, we aren't going to have a release date just because it is a month before. they are probably three quarters or so through the development cycle which for most other games you get a Month] [Year] release date. They could probably tell you within +-5 days of accuracy when it will be, but why would they say anything until the product is in the final stage of beta?
I personally think it is much more frustrating for a company to set release dates and keep changing them (cough*Squarenix*cough*Blizzard) because then you can never trust any dates they say. At least this way, when they say "We don't know yet," then if they DO put down a date, you can be confident that that is when you are getting your product.

You're spot on there. The whole reason they haven't mentioned a date is because there isn't one until they're close to having it done. Obviously "monthly episode" thing means it will be sometime in September, but I'll bet even the Telltale people don't have anything more concrete than a tentative deadline.

I didn't say it would be. I'm of the mind that it'll be released about the same time of the month as chapter 2, perhaps slightly earlier.

What you said also doesn't change anything that I said - yes, the games go through several phases of production, and at the time that chapter 2 was given a slight delay, chapter 3 would have been in an earlier point of development. But it would have meant that they would have finished that phase of development much earlier relative to Chapter 2's release, meaning that they still have more time than they had had chapter 2 not been delayed. It would be easier to demonstrate with a diagram, really, but the maths works out just fine.

Additionally, the transitions are very unlikely to be jarring all-or-nothing affairs. The teams are large enough that once one episode is wrapping up you can gradually move work over to the next as required because the workload for each episode will be constantly shifting as they get developed.

I didn't explain this very well, but it's late. Point is, delaying episode 2, if I understand things correctly should have a (diminishing) knock on effect for the next couple of episodes, too, meaning that they hopefully won't have any need for releasing this next one much more than a month after, this time.

I'd have thought they'd have announced a release date by Tuesday next week. If not, are we looking at early October now?

    Amen!

Wish people would wait, yes, ok, its frustrating to wait around but we will get it eventually. What makes me laugh is ppl complain on the delays, but in another breath they complain the puzzles are easy.... What gives?

Saying that, I'm 36, so I cant really relate to the excitement that young ppl have...... But all I can say is......... Monkey Island rules!

Put me in for 3 coupons. I left the rest in a fine leather jacket I just sold.

Edit: Actually, it wasn't exactly fine. Or leather. Or a jacket. But as long as the customer is happy everything is ok yeah?

They need to hurry up and freaking announce it. It's a pain in the arse coming back here everyday to check.

It sucks enough that it isn't a midnight release, the fact there isn't an hour by hour countdown is lazy, and it makes telltale look like a shitty indy company. It also needs to have a specific date.

Honestly, it's unprofesisonal and pissing off fans.

Ya it would be nice to have something by now. Like a picture or a date. Just anything would be nice by now.

Yeah, we need actual release dates. Even if TTG won't have up a countdown to the minute it's released (AND THERE SHOULD BE ONE) it's lazy and unprofessional to not have an actual release date.

People keep being all nice and saying "TTG can't midnight release, or they're still making the game", but the reality is it's not a fan-boy game project, it's an actual game that we actually paid for.

When I bought the game, I expected release dates and midnight releases of each episode. I don't mind waiting for new episodes, and I understand it takes time, but being left in the dark is annoying, and it really shouldn't be happenning.

Look at all the other game companies out there, EVERY SINGLE ONE has a release date for their game. TTG needs to do that too.

How many of these companies release 1/5 of their game at a time? Oh yeah, NONE. So your point is moot.

That's debatable. I think it adds a bit of fun to the waiting, well at least to me, to check all those ramblings about getting the next episode.
If this happens with an episode, what will happen when the season completes? I bet "I want ToMI Season 2 right now" will be a popular phrase then.
    Fury wrote: »

Midnight releases. If you can make the world flat I'm sure midnight releases will be pretty much a standard.
    Fury wrote: »

Hmmm, if Telltale misses a 'to the hour' deadline, people will complain. If the game is released early, people will complain. If the game has too many bugs due to TPTB forcing a release to meet the deadline, people will complain. If the game is too short, people will complain....
If the masses don't get the game right now, and it isn't perfect, they'll complain. IF the planets align, the game is perfect and the release date is announced and met, people will still complain.

I agree on the date, but with Telltale's episodic model I sense setting a date in stone is a hard thing to do for anything but episode 1.
    Fury wrote: »

Seriously, unprofessional? If unprofessional is redefined as "Not meeting Fury's expectations", I think you're right.

    Fury wrote: »

OK, we know that you're pissed.
Are you a fan or fanatic?
The first is "an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc" [Source: Random House Dictionary]

But the second is a lot more negative
"A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause" [Source: Random House Dictionary]

Let's categorize you as a fan (because if you're a fanatic, there is nothing much to do)

    Pipe down and be reasonable.
If with all life's problems and challenges you're pissed for something as trivial as this, it sucks to be you, really.

Is it necessary to stone the guy to death because he wants to know a release date? I mean granted its done when its done (no Duke Nukem Forever reference, i assure you) but I mean a status update would be nice to know. Not even a release date, but some info (its next week, pushed to october, etc.) It's not like he's screaming for point and click interface, nor about recycled models. I mean it may seem impatient to other people, and he may have come off a little strong, but its no reason to start trouble about.

They announce release dates literally AS SOON as they know them, and they can't announce them any sooner than they do. As has been said countless times, they are literally still working on episode 3 and it is not finished until maybe a day or two before it ships at best, and even then, they might encounter a last minute glitch that they don't want to ship with, and delay it into late in the day.

This has been argued to death and there's nothing they can do about it and still maintain an episodic schedule, and I'm tired of people not understanding that. Judging by the vast amount of impatience shown across the board by all these "waaah midnight release, waaaah my time zone, waaah no release date months in advance waaah waaah waaah" whiners, you'd think they'd be insanely grateful that due to the way TTG releases their games, we have played 40% of a game that would normally not be out for another 2-3 months if they released games like every other company. But no, instead of seeing the HUGE advantages we're gaining with an episodic release schedule, they choose to whine about stupid inconsequential things like specific dates, and even more ludicrous is the notion that they'd ever post a release hour.

That's also how they worked with the sam & max seasons, but we still had release dates announced for almost all episodes right from the start if i'm not mistaken.
I wouldn't go as far as to call this "unprofessional", but i do think it would be nice to have them. Not that i care soo much anyway, i'd just like to know when to expect my fix.
I agree that the count down or midnight release argument is bullcrap, tho. I like having some precision about when it's out, but who really needs THAT much precision ?

They have said multiple times it will be later this month.

Nothing that has been said to Fury is anywhere near as disrespectful as calling TTG unprofessional and lazy.

Do people seriously think they know the exact release date and time but have not told us becasue no-one can be bothered?
