The movie is just bad I don’t know how you make a middle movie in a trilogy and just don’t care about what came before and what came after.

  • This video makes every point I have tried to make but worded so much better! It’s actually very convincing, I encourage you to watch this if you disliked the last Jedi, and at least be open minded pls and don’t let ur hate stop you from listening to logic and reason, yeah?

So by movies you mean all movies or just Star Wars? I wouldnt be lying to myself at all Obi-wan makes it pretty obvious, we can use these things called context clues, just like how we can easily assume it was the Emperor who seduced Lukes father to the dark side. Also again, Im not sure how many times people have to tell you this, maybe for once forget the prequels so you can remember why people dont have this issue with OT. OT first came out there was no prequels of any kind and during this time we were introduced to this world where we learned about how an evil empire over through the old ways where there was plenty of Jedis ect all that jazz. This works because this is our introduction, and it even tells us about the past. The reason this doesnt work for the new movies is because we saw the end of the Empire. We see the light win. Now we are watching these new movies and suddenly the New Empire is there and is kicking everyones ass, and there is 0 explanation at all on why that happened. Not a thing, unlike the OT which took the time to explain how the universe was how it was.

Again, instead of trying to show you know every last piece of lore of Star Wars, after all you are claiming you know how to analyse and deconstruct movies, wanna point me to what you just said about Snoke is explained in the movie and not an outside source? I dont remember the movies telling me about the origin of his ring, and even then everything you just said its completely worthless to his "backstory." WhoA GuyS SnoKE GoT huRT?!?!?!? if anything it just adds on to how we dont know shit about him. So in your eyes Snoke has more backstory than Pal even though his backstory is literally just "seduced Kylo Ren" just like Pal did to Vader (and sorry if anyone seriously first viewing of the OT didnt think The Emperor was responsible for seducing Vader you have to be brain dead.) The rest isnt even meaningful backstory, "shit dude hes injured and looks all fucked up!" Whoa dude just like Pal. "Also he has a ring dude" whoa a ring. This isnt meaningful backstory Melton my guy.

My man I think you need to understand film making in general. These are just issues with the Star Wars story Im not even going into its issues of pacing, directing, and poor writing (although a little into bad writing) There is no deeper meaning to scenes like throwing away the light saber other than its for a gag. There is some irony to all this though, you go "You cant argue with fan logic" yet you call yourself the biggest Star Wars fan here. Do you not see some irony in there? You refuse that anything you say can even be slightly wrong in terms of Star Wars but then complain if someone disagrees with you and go "omg cant argue with fan logic!" So if thats the case I guess theres no use arguing with you and your fan logic :kennysad:

Edit: oof didnt see we aint talking about Star Wars in here anymore, if mods want they can move this to the star wars thread

Well I'm in the mood to say what I did like about The Last Jedi. Let's see:

    • I really liked the risk Rian took with Luke's characterization in this movie. Such a bold move, especially considering the backlash towards the Disney canon (particulary TFA) before the films release. While I do have objections to some of the directions Johnson took with Luke's arc I still admire the vision nonetheless

    • The part where Holdo hyperdrives right into the First Order's ship was just mesmerizing. The CGI could be off putting at times but when the film gets it right it's gorgeous

    • The part where Kylo cunningly dupes Snoke into spelling out his own demise was a great moment and turning point in his development, even if I wish we got to see a little bit more of Snoke in action beforehand to give the scene that extra catharsis

    • Speaking of Kylo, all of his moments with Rey are where the film undoubtedly shines brightest. Adam and Daisy really show off their remarkable acting talent in these scenes and make them the most captivating of the film as a result

    • Just Ben in general could be one of my favorite characters in the Star Wars canon in general if Lucasfilms gave a bit more time to delve into his psyche. There's a fascinating character study there that's explored just enough to be intriguing but not enough to leave us (or at the very least me) satisfied. I guess that's intentional though...

  • This video did bring up a lot of points that I agree with (although it was way too mean spirited).

  • You can hardly blame the guy though, most people here should know I do the same thing cos it’s extremely frustrating when people complain about something that they are viewing out of context and will point blank refuse to accept the fact about what the scene represents.

  • I guess I'm late to the party here, although I did see the movie when it first came out. I did like the movie a lot, and I'll try to articulate why without repeating too much that has already been said. All of the battles were awesome to watch, and the effects were great. That one scene (you know the one) was a visual treat and had the whole audience completely silent. I could feel my heart beating in my chest, and it was like that for the rest of the movie. Everything with Luke was perfect, and easily the best part of the movie. Nothing he did really seemed to be out of character. Kylo Ren was also really interesting to watch, and he may be the most multi-dimensional character of all of the new characters. I'm definitely curious to see what happens to him in the end.

The casino scenes really didn't bother me, and I think people are really blowing out of proportion the "anti-capitalism" sentiments. Even if the destination didn't lead anywhere, the journey was still good. Finn had a change of heart, and Rose may have inspired a rebel attitude into those kids. I'd say something was accomplished. The only real issue comes near the end of their plot. Rose stopping Finn from sacrificing himself seems good on paper, but the execution is a little sloppy. The sacrifice perfectly shows Finn's change, and stopping him from doing so does somewhat undermine that. Rose kissing him afterward also does feel weird, though I don't think he kissed back. It would have been better if she stopped him from sacrificing himself do to him still having a larger role to play, though that can still happen and they can still somewhat address all this in the next episode.
I don't mind the stuff with Holdo too much (although it probably should have been general Ackbar getting promoted). I do think they needed to elaborate on her lack of trust more. It can be inferred, but not as easily as I think they thought. Some of the blame should have gone her way too.

Rey is perhaps a bit too powerful, but nowhere near as bad as people make her out to be. People say she goes through no conflict, but most of her conflict is internal. She struggles a lot with her own origins and sense of self, and it all comes to a head when she realizes that her parents were nobody. This is where her struggles really come from, and I would think that more people would be able to relate. It also works really well in showing how anybody can be a jedi, although this perhaps makes her more of a symbol and somewhat sacrifices a bit of good characterization. The only real issue I have trouble reconciling with myself is the main theme of letting the past go. I'm pretty sure the real message is that you need a mix of the past and future in order to really achieve something great, but they spend a lot of time dissing the past and don't spend too much time trying to compliment it. The execution still works, but it is kind of sloppy.

Even with my issues, I greatly enjoyed the movie. I like it more than The Force Awakens (which I also thought was great). When I first saw it, I gave it a 9/10, but felt something was off about my score. After thinking about it and analyzing the faults, as well as watching rational critiques, I decided that an 8/10 would be more appropriate. The video in this thread got me thinking again though, and I think I have finally come up with a score that works for me and the movie. My final score is an 8.5/10, and I don't expect it to change. Also, if this movie really ruined Star Wars for you and your childhood, then I guess they just weren't that great to begin with.

  • I understand, I just personally would try to keep things positive. Anger leads to hate, and hate leads to the dark side.

  • So, fans are still angry about TLJ. If you are one of those people who isn't exactly up to date on the latest Star Wars news then let me catch you up a bit, apparently there are plans for a remake of TLJ which a twitter page called Remake The Last Jedi recently announced and the whole idea of it went viral, both Rian Johnson and Seth Rogen re tweeted it and has now made it's way throughout the Star Wars community. A whole heap of people have mixed opinions on this, personally I think Lucasfilm should keep TLJ the way it is and try to make up for upsetting the fans by making Episode 9 as best as they possibly can. I'm not a supporter nor a hater of TLJ, I would say that I'm more towards the haters side just because I didn't really agree with Rian Johnson's approach and I think that J.J Abrams should have Directed the movie and then finished it all up with Episode 9.

  • While a remake could be interesting to watch, I feel like in the end it will just be a waste of time and take away time and production from future movies. They could easily accomplish the same thing by adding in some scenes and tweaking others. Plus, it will probably just end up being very similar to the original movie anyway.

  • Agreed, even if they were to remake TLJ it would still remian with the same "vibe" as how it originally was. Plus, people hated the Prequels and Lucasfilm never remade them. As you said, it's kind of a waste of time, Lucasfilm could be making awesome movies about Obi Wan between Episodes 3 and 4 or Luke between Episodes 6 and 7, so why go back and remake ONE movie that wasn't what the fans wanted. Once movies like Kenobi and Boba Fett start getting announced people won't care about remaking TLJ anymore (hopefully.)
