Why do characters come back on episode 2

Season 2 Kenny came back season 3 David then now season 4 Lilly and it’s all been in episode 2 is telltale doing a trend

  • My best guess would be that they don't want to focus on returning characters in the opening of the season and they want the returning characters to have enough screen time throughout the series so they bring them back in the 2nd episode.

  • Because Telltale keep reusing the same sorts of storylines and characters. There's a few other things I suspect are drawn from Season 2 in particular here.

Also, the second episode is either close to, just reaches, or flat out is the middle of these seasons/installments, so they typically want the story to head towards that point of the plotline.

  • David was not a character we knew from a previous season.

Returns are always supposed to be big shocks so the story needs to be settled down before they drop the return bomb in order to actually make an impact.

E1 is too early for a major return shock and anything past E3 is too late. So that means E2 is the sweet spot.

  • Episode 1 of a season gives us the chance to get to know the characters for the season episode 2 has all hands on deck were any character can appear

  • Good thing they removed the fishing sequence at the fuckin river and made the Junkyard such a short, just barely interactive as a whole establishment.
