That´s an interesting idea.
DeSinge is definately disqualified as the killer; he doesn´t have the skills, he is shocked and runs away, and he even says it was just because of all the blood that he fled. DeSinge is a decoy, but it is quite predictible he is
Speaking of predictable:
ToMI is kind of predictable as far as the result goes; it is very likely everything will return to status quo in the end.It was clear that LeChuck would not stay human, it was clear that the Pox would be cured, it was clear that Guybrush would somehow successfully free himself of the charges, and it is clear that neither Morgan nor Guybrush will stay dead.
But that is not the point. When watching a Batman movie you know Batman will survive and be victorious as well. The point is the way it is all done. Experiencing the adventure and the dialogue to reach that predictable goal. And that is the stuff that surprises and entertains.
I agree that the game is slightly predictable, but it's defiantly original for Monkey Island to have the deaths of major characters, one being the hero himself, and such emotion and character development. A lot of people said Morgan would not die because it's a Monkey Island game, well whether she comes back or not she was at one point dead, so that was a shock for many. I even thought she would meet with a tragic demise, but I was still blown away by how well it was handled and just the emotion in the scene, even Guybrush's description of the items in the lab after her death are filled with depression and rage being held back.
Monkey Island has included plenty of mass murder and torture, but to people in the background and not a part of the actual story, like the thousands murdered in Big Whoop and the hundreds who built it, or all the victims in the Plunder Island fort battle, or LeChuck's ghost crew, goes on and on. This is the first time the series has been as serious and that for many was unpredictable for the simple fact that it's so uncharacteristic of the series.

Naw, it was Winslow.
Who else would have told Morgan all those Guybrush stories if not the Voodoo Lady the only person who knows of Guybrush's exploits.
