What Morgan whispered to Guybrush...

edited December 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
What Morgan whispered to Guybrush is the following:
"Don't trust LeChuck. He hypnotized a bunch of monkeys and ran me through with my own blade."

I found it in the game's resources.

Because he didn't understand the line?
  • edited November 2009
He probably didn't decipher it. The entire line is as an in-game comment:
Dying unintelligble whisper of approximate length to get across "Don't trust LeChuck. He hypnotized a bunch of monkeys and ran me through with my own blade."

    You talkin' to me?
I did add spoilers. Aah, you mean in the thread.

What in the world are you using for this, anyway? The only Telltale Archive unpacker I know won't work on anything recent.
  • edited November 2009
So then I guess this means the line isn't really all that important since we already know
LeChuck is evil by the end.
    Unless
his ability to apparently hypnotize monkeys will be a factor in episode 5.

It does raise the question of motivation, though. As I mentioned in an earlier thread,
we've never seen any evidence that LeChuck and Morgan had even met, so it's not like she's likely to have pissed him off or something, and I can't see how her death would be beneficial to his plan. I mean, it's not like Guybrush wasn't already on his way to taking care of the Marquis and growing the sponge without the extra push Morgan's death gave him. If LeChuck really is the one who killed Morgan, I hope we get the "why" when we get the "who".

How does someone add spoiler tag here, yes?

I think it would be in LeChuck's advantage to have morgan alive, as he is after Elaine. I can't think of an better way to wreck Guybrush's relationship with Elaine , when she was poxed she was pretty jealous of Morgan...

LeChuck killing morgan does not compute :)

used spoilers, but i find it very annoing, it says spoilers in the topic title, why use spoilertags inside such a topic. If you don't want spoilers do not click on a topic/thread that says spoilers. Now i have to click on every post i want to read... why? because some don't want this information

use them for hints, then you can click on as many hints as you want without seeing them all at once.

[ spoiler ] and [ /spoiler ], without the extra spaces. If you see someone doing something that you want to learn to do, it's generally a good idea to try quoting their post and look at it.

You could also put this information to good use.

as a rule of thumb i steer clear of this whole forum until i've completed an episode. i know people are generally careful with spoilers, but why risk it when you care about the storyline so much?

just finish the game and come back and talk to us all after you're done.

I know, but some people don't notice the thread spoiler tag or ignore it. I honestly didn't care that much, but I figured someone else would say something even if I didn't, and since I was talking about spoiler tags anyway...

As for the not reading things until finished with the chapter, that still doesn't protect you from any spoilers people have managed to dig up about chapter five, like I have with the Nintendo Power interview.

ah well, i'll just keep clicking :) i read the power interview as well and am now more curious about the next episode, just a limited amount of spoiley can make it more interesting. i like the idea of
    land of the death

    but back on topic,
Elaine killed Morgan when she was poxed. DeSinge captured Elaine before and when Morgan came to get Guybrushes hand , got busy (as mentioned on the sign) Elaine killed Morgen and DeSinge ran(jumped out of his window as i recall) away into the jungle where he hid his airgun. At that point we see DeSinge beeing chased by Elaine in the Jungle.

Elaine is cured and does not remember doing it and so does not feel guilty, when she was poxed she didn't care either.

We all now know LeChuck was evil the whole time and his personality never changed despite not having any voodoo. He wants to use the sponge to take control of all the voodoo in the world and conquer the seas. What we don't know is how he accomplished all this and the rest of his plans. It's very convenient that De Singe had a machine that could control the wind device to soak up voodoo, it was quite good for LeChuck. That kind of makes me assume LeChuck made a deal with him or was manipulating him somehow, perhaps when De Singe put that elixir in his body as it was originated from LeChuck.

To be honest I don't think that Morgan whispered anything to Guybrush. I think that Morgan was actually expecting Guybrush to kiss her. If u watch carefully the scene she just put her hand on his face and keep looking at his mouth, and when Guybrush approaches she closes her eyes, like she is expecting to be kissed! That's my point of view :p
  • edited November 2009
There could be a number of reasons for him to kill Morgan

    1. She found out a secret
    2. He read the voodoo-lady's book or something and found out Morgan is somehow integral to the story
    3. He's an evil bad guy, what more motivation does he need? :p

I don't want to uncover the spoiler tag, but when did Morgan even whisper anything to Guyrbush? Am I missing something obvious?

Did you play all of episode 4?

If so(upcoming spoiler tag, only reveals at which point in episode 4 she whispered something to Guybrush, but MAJOR story spoiler if you haven't finished Episode 4)
during her death scene, she tries to communicate something to Guybrush before she dies.

Yea.. no. If she had whispered that,
Guybrush wouldn't have greeted LeChuck with something along the lines of "hey buddy blabla" when he appeared at the giant wind machine
    . Nice try tho.

You should read TheHutt's second post. Not that it's impossible that they're lying, but their explanation accounts for this.

But why even have it included in the game files then?
The only explanation would be that they wanted to include it when they started programming ep4 but decided to drop it somewhen on the fly. But seeing how accurate they must've planned everything out before even starting the first episode and how dramatically this line of dialogue would have changed the whole ending of ep4 I heavily doubt they would have changed their whole story concept so spontaneously.

A lot of games have a "script" in the resources. A written-out version of the events that are meant to take place in cutscenes is usually present, reading these is how(for example) the people making KOTOR II restoration projects know what to restore. What is claimed to be found isn't an audio file, but a bit of script that is meant to lay out the meaning of a certain scene. The word "inaudible" is used, to emphasize that we(and perhaps Guybrush) can't hear.

I think you're all wrong, what she actually whispered was the same as what the guy whispers at the end of this video ...
  • edited November 2009
I don't think she whispered anything. Her lips didn't move. I think she tried to and died.

It was totally Elaine, not LeChuck, btw. LeChuck had no motive.

    I bet she said
"ZOMG! Jaques the Monkey can talk!" or "I can speak Monkey... who knew?"

Listen guys, if its in the resources, its in the resources. Whether or not she was able to get the words out, she was attempting to say what the game file says she was attempting to say. :P

just another way of looking at it

How can you know it's not in the game? The script specifically uses the word "inaudible".

Heh, yeah, that mixnmojo post is the entire reason I went back and read the article again (it wasn't nearly as spoilery without putting into context with the events of chapter 4). And then, after reading it again, I started a thread on it. Then I scanned it. Then I posted it in like three other threads. What can I say, we're all a curious bunch on here.

To be honest, I don't think
she's dead. I reckon she'll be brought back by some voodoo magic later in the game. You're not supposed to die in Lucasarts adventure games, remember? :P

I know what she said it was

"You really need a breath mint take a step back please"

things i cannot hear , cannot read or cannot see when playing the game are not in the game. It is impossible to know from playing the game what she was or was not saying. i played it so i know it is not in there.

    leaves me with some possibilities
    1. It was in the game , but skipped for a reason. movies get cut down as well. elements not important to the story get removed to create a better flow.
    2. It is in the game but is to be revealed in the next episode.

if it was removed from the final game, it is not neccesary to remove those scripting lines as a normal gamer would not get the information. If it was an integral part of the story it would have been hearable in the game.

for me its like schrodingers cat :)

but i am very curious how i can see the unhearable line for myself :) tell me how :)

    Well...
first of all, this isn't a LucasArts adventure game, it's a Telltale Games adventure game, even if LucasArts contributed the characters etc. to it. And second, I believe this "you can't die in LucasArts adventure games" rule only applies to the main character, i.e. the one you're controlling.
