I, too, know noone (but one, though never talked face to face) who played MI (any of the games, not just Tales), besides the people here.

Fourteen; none of my friends know about Monkey Island. I guess I'll just have to inform them. ;3
Anyway, I wasn't born yet until a few years before Curse came out, and when I was about... probably seven/eight, my dad pointed out a box in the games store labeled 'Monkey Island' and said it looked fun, so I thought I'd try it. Little did I know, in my young age, that it was Monkey Island, games 3 and 4, Curse and Escape. I never finished Escape and my heavily Christian parents freaked on it right around the Unorthodox Church of LeChuck(?) I think. Then we broke the disc. I managed to keep Curse, and played it over and over and over again. I love that game. Sadly, it was lost during one of our moves.
Yes, I do remember that specific day when I bought Monkey Island. Probably because after my dad ran off, I ran after him, lost him, and accidentally mistook someone else for him... by their sandals. *was a weird child*
Anyway, I have since watched as many videos of the earlier games as I could (Thank God for Let's Plays), and a few clips or two of Escape - enough to know how... weird it was.

I had to introduce myself to MI. I know NOBODY in person who has even heard of the games. I guess I got lucky finding them... :D

    23 (turning 24 February).

    21.

I know a few people who are MI fans, I went to college with them, and I know a few other people who have at least played one or two of the games, even if they aren't fans as such. Still, despite the amount of MI fans I know on the internet (not just this site) I don't know many in real life.

this is odd that most are in the same area
    26-32?
    nice me too!
  • edited November 2009
Yeah, I was expecting there to be quite a lot of younger fans. I was about 9 or 10 when I got into adventure games.

That said, the original MI fans could have been that age, meaning they would be in their late 20s/early 30s by now. So I suppose it's not all that surprising after all!

It's good to see that people of all ages can enjoy the series. :)

at eleven, I am probably the youngest user here.;)

    Almost 33.
I played The Secret of Monkey Island when I was 13 years old.

Geez, this thread is scary. :p
  • edited November 2009
Only 16! Haha. Been playin MI since Curse then proceeded to play backwards until I was all caught up. Then EFMI and so on. I can't believe I'm still just as in love with this game as I was when I first started!

It's not that odd: people in this age range were kids when MI 1 came out and many of them have been fans since. :)

The LAST option is "over 32"?!!

Jesus, that makes me feel old
Anyway, I'm 38. And my father (who is 68) played the first two Monkey Island games.

    old enough to know better

which in this case, would be 18.
  • edited November 2009
For shame. Don't you know you should never ask a woman her age? ;)

I'm 38, and I remember spending some weeks in 1992/3 trying to navigate Guybrush through a forest maze, which was far more fun than doing my uni coursework :)

I really should get round to installing the SCUMM VM thingie so I can play all my old games again. DOTT especially, and the original Sam & Max!

I was expecting to see an "over 9000" option in the poll. I am disappoint.

I'm 27 years old. I was 7 or 8 when The Secret of Monkey Island came out. I still remember the PC Speaker noises that my computer made to play Michael Land's catchy soundtrack. My dad eventually got a better sound card (probably a Turtle Beach sound card) and the audio became a lot better. Those were the days...The game was so ingrained into my psyche that I memorized how to beat the Special Edition sans any hints when it came out on the XBox 360 19 years later. It's a rare adventure game that I can play over and over again without getting bored.

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only older gamer veteran here. 41 and still strongly going on. :)

    haha!:D

This poll really is interesting... i played monkey island since i was a kid but I didn't get all the jokes and had problems solving all the puzzles... I think you have to be a bit older to be able to enjoy the complete game.

    btw I'm 19.
