Has anyone realized...? *CH 4 SPOILERS*

...that Guybrush was just impaled with the Cursed Kutlass of Kafluu? Maybe that's how he becomes the pirate god...or something. I'm willing to bet it wasn't just any simple stabbing by some blade.

Depends, was it Guybrush's substitute enchantment cutlass, or has it been properly enchanted, and what would either mean?
  • edited December 2009
It means that he will bring the Pox of Guybrush over the land of the death
  • edited December 2009
Yeah, I noticed. Don't really know what to make of it though.

A bit off-topic, but... did anyone think Club 41 could be an allusion to Club Obi-Wan? I mean, they do sound similiar... or, that could just be my imagination.

I've always wondered if I was just missing the Club 41 joke, or if it really was a mystery.
  • edited December 2009
I brought this up earlier in the "Elaine's wedding ring" thread, wondering if the ring would have anything to do with lifting the curse of the cutlass.
  • edited December 2009
Anybody consider that the cutlass could actually be just an exact replica of the cursed cutlass because the devs were too lazy to model a NEW cutlass?

Hard to see Guybrush's substitute cutlass doing absolutely anything to him aside from what actually happened...
  • edited December 2009
Or maybe the Cursed Cutlass can't be simply destroyed (remember the Voodoo Lady said it had to be dismantled in a Voodoo ceremony?), so LeChuck keeps it (in human form he has no Voodoo power, so he can't destroy it) so nobody would be able to properly enchance it without him taking notice... and conviniently uses as a weapon of killing Guybrush Threepwood.

Anyway, if the sword had to be just a sword for the sake of being a sword, then they could as well use other existing models (or maybe those are one model with different textures). I think there is a reasonable explanation why LeChuck uses the Cursed Cutlass.

Ahhh, Elaine's wedding ring! I never thought of that...

I did, but someone on forums replied to me like "if they were that lazy to model a new cutlass and THINK about it, they'd use a generic cutlass like Elaine's". Made sense to me.

The Pox of Guybrush idea sounds interesting. And kinky.

And don't forget his hand is still running amock in the jungles of flotsam. Theoretically his hand may be used to revive him somehow, as it is a piece of him. A piece of him that has now been cured of the pox that animated it. (Is anyone else slightly creeped out by that thought?)

And I can't help but think this jus de vis thing hasn't run its full course.
  • edited December 2009
Well Guybrush did lose the cutlass on LeChuck's ship when the root grog exploded. So LeChuck could have picked it up then.

Didn't that happen in Doctor Who?

    :)

** Not sure if preview video mention counts as a spoiler of some sort **

I was thinking something slightly similar about his hand, and just checked the latest preview video. But, it shows his right hand come out of the ground, and got rid of that thought for the time being.

...but Guybrush lost his left hand (aka his fightin' drawin' hand).

Furthermore, isn't that actually the Ghost of Guybrush?
  • edited December 2009
The hand definitely looked ghosty to me. I just assumed when I saw it that it meant we would be playing the ghost of Guybrush.

Holy crapper on a stick, Batman, I did not notice that before.

    Plus a dog. :D

    Bark Woof Woof....LeChuck

    I hope it's Spiffy, too!

I bet the sponge could see Guybrush getting stabbed (after all it does have 6 senses - one of them relating to the future (and if it could see the future how would it tell us? ;) )) and so hasn't removed the pox from Guybrush's hand yet. As such 'lefty' is still alive and can be used in a voodoo ceremony (ala LeChucks revenge) to bring Guybrush back.

    Maybe?

Guybrush, stuff the dog into your pants again! You know it is the only way!

You know, if that theory that the Land of the Dead has underworld versions of the trials Guybrush first faced is true, then perhaps it also has an underworld version of that dog.

Spiffy, Guybrush, Old Pew... so many dogs to choose from!
  • edited December 2009
Is this going to be one of those things where animals can see Ghostie Guybrush when people can't? Not that I'm objecting, I can just see sidequests now: Get dog to fetch items you can no longer touch. Get dog to get attention of people who can't see you. Get dog to alert others Timmy is in the well.

    Could be Gomez too!

Or was that not a dog? I don't remember.

I heard somewhere that it was a cat. Not 100% sure though.

A dog would never do it on the carpet so it's kinda narrowed down :D

It's an allusion to Club 51 (a real club).

All my dogs have done it on the carpet at some point when they weren't trained so I have no idea what you're talking about.

Except I'm somewhat suspecting Guybrush, because he's Elaine's dog, and would actually have a reason to be around. Whereas dear old Spiffy is probably still lapping up acidic grog piles in the same seedy old tavern we found him in, saving up his doggie pennies in hopes that someday he could move to a new town and start a new life as an actor. Of course, I'm guessing reality has started to set in after all those years waiting on table (scraps) and barking about LeChuck.

I must admit I hadn't thought about Guybrush's death being induced by the Cutlass of Kafflu, nice catch :)

I DID notice that the sword-through-the-chest thing was also what killed Morgan, so I think it may be a safe bet it was LeChuck that somehow killed Morgan. Because of that, I can see Guybrush and DeSinge potentially needing to work together in this episode, but that might be a country mile off the mark - it's just a guess.

Also, in IWWHITOMI 4, Guybrush got impaled, just like in the game :P though it was by a screaming narwhal rather than the cursed cutlass of kafflu, but details people, details!
