That track always annoyed me. It goes well with good ol' outdoor effects though.

Would be perfect for something SPECIAL, like an EDITION or something, if you know what I mean. Nice work!

Yeah I hate that song, because I was stuck for so long on that island. It never occurred to me to open that envelope(that monkeybusiness with the waterfall later on, also ruined things). But I have an excuse, since I was around ten years old.

    But good remastering.

Ha, I guess I picked the worst song then. :(

Thanks for liking the mix anyway. I always liked the song. At least I didn't do the spitting contest or the The Booty Boutique. THOSE are bad songs IMO.
  • edited December 2009
    ...I liked those...

Personally, I love the one in Woodtick, Scumm bar(SoMI), and Captain Dread(in addition to the opening melody of course) . Probably others too, but I don't have the soundtrack here, so I can't tell.

I agree. I always liked the slightly more atmospheric music in MI2 as opposed to stuff like the Booty Boutique blues-rock.

Good work on the remix, by the way.

Bagge, I always knew you had good taste!

Jad, I am working on the Captain Dread theme. I just don't like it that much yet. I added some Jazz guitar with it but it sounds too forced at the moment.

    Great work as always!

Too bad you won't be able to do anything more soonish. I'm looking forward to the tunnels song in the meantime :)

interesting remix, i like it, it sound quite classic

I liked the Phatt Island music, those organs sounded great and very catchy. Always imagined that the three islands in MI2 would always have a slightly different edge when it came to the music, for example, if remastered into some game, perhaps next year, or something, then the main Phatt Island theme would work great with a slide guitar.
  • edited December 2009
We need real music in TOMI :l
  • edited December 2009
But you have real music in TOMI, just not real instruments. :)

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Ash, I agree with the slide guitar. I use live instrument samples but they arn't played live so they tend to sound synthetic. I have a couple slide guitar samples that I may try to use eventually.

I'm not sure what songs people like in MI2. I's surprised some of you like The Bootique and the spitting contest. I'm working on Dinky Island, Main Theme, Drinking Contest, Captain Dread, Rum Rogers theme, Woodtick revisited and Phatt Island Jail. I don't know if I'll get any of them done anytime soon. I thought they were the songs people liked but I may be wrong. :o

I've always loved the remixes of Underground Tunnels and Governor Phatt's Room that Highland Productions did.

There is no music in Monkey Island 2 that I don't love. Everything is excellent and fits the mood of the environments perfectly. Although I'm used to the Amiga version, where quite a few songs were missing, like Phatt Island Jail, Drinking Contest, Rum Rogers, Spitting Contest, Woodtick, Dinky Island etc. But I've played all these games later on the PC, so I'm familiar with all of the music now, and I can't say there are any tunes I don't like.

I know this thread is about the Phatt Island music but when I saw the music on Youtube again it's showed a picture of Phatt Island, which I always thought looked like North America. I was just wondering if anyone else thought that.
I liked most of Monkey Island 2's music as well. I was a little disappointed that the Monkey Island Madness CD just had CD quality music for the first game and not the second.

the tunnels? isn't that like a 9 minute piece?
as to the map music, you use that thunder ambiance sound way too much. why would there even be a thunder in there?
  • edited December 2009
Phatt Island Jail is easily the best MI theme ever. I would love if you remastered that one. Make it creepy as shit :D

Its actually the ambience of Plunder Island. It's one large track, I can't take out the thunder but I like the rest. Sorry. :o

Creepy.... hmmm. Ill see what I can do Qwazin... ;) My current remaster of it needs a lot of work so it will be a while.

The music I just LOVE the most in MI2 is the Scabb Island map music. I can't really explain, there's just something... to it, you know.Out of all MI2:SE live instruments music (yeah, I'm sure there will be a MI2:SE, aren't you?) this is the one I wait for the most.

Wow that rendition is amazing. I'm listening to it no- LeChuck what are you doing in my living room all of a sudden? And what are you doing with that voodoo do- NOOOOO!!!

    BZZZZZT!

Hey, how did I end up in the bathtub? *goes back to living room and turns off Tunnels music*

The Phatt Island remix was great. Agree that there shouldn't be thunder on Phatt Island, though :P

Hm, didn't like the drums in the Tunnels remix. Sounded misplaced somehow. But good nontheless, the Tunnels got to be the track that sums up the greatness that is MI2.

Still nothing that beats Highland's remix of it, though. It's the best MI fan made thing ever.
  • edited December 2009
Well I wasn't prepared to write a 9:00 minute piece, thats for sure. :D I just remastered it. The drums were forced a little but I wanted to change it up a little. Maybe a little rushed. But yes, Highland did do a masterful job of their version.

Thanks Fawful for the kind words.

I can't believe you didn't include the intro to that music. that was favorite part of the whole thing! :(

    Really nice! Thank you!

I like the orchestral sounds; I guess you used a sound library for that, but I'm curious of which one?

Sweet as candy. These island maps were an important game mechanic in the money island series. One gets a much greater sense of openendedness than in many other games, even if there were only ever a handful of places one could go.

We're not having an MI2 SE. I disallow it.

    I digress:
These tracks are just goddamn wonderful. It's such a shame that iMUSE in Monkey Island 2 prevents hacking this into the game. Such a shame.

I didnt know there was an intro... :( I try to make you happy Mataku! Forgive me!;)

dvibe, I used Miroslav Philharmonik and Kontakt 4 for my sounds.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone.

The Booty Island Map is the best map theme from MI2.
  • edited December 2009
    Keep on! I love them.

i loved the tunnel theme, i havent heard that in agesss, the Monkey Island 2 music that stood out for me is, the diving song, the love theme, Jojo's piano music, the Monkey Island 2 theme, the skeletons dance song....(as you can tell i loved the soundtrack :D)

The MI2 soundtrack is perhaps the most memorable of ANY game ever. The way the iMuse system was used extensively was out of this world for its days and even today. I too aggree about the Scabb Island map and also ALL others.
