Clearly he should be captain dread.

    Or perhaps Elaine's Chef?

Honestly having reviewed the entire game in my head, I can't think of anyone he would work as.

I think that someone with a really strong jamaican accent should voice Captain Dread. Everytime I read the words 'Hey, mon' it just makes me think a jamaican voice would fit him.

Yeah I was pretty sure this was gonna be released in April. I'm now one very happy Ps3 owner! I hope LucasArts also announce a Sam & Max:Hit the Road:SE while they are at it!

I think it would be awesome to see Curse of Monkey Island released exactly as it was, except scanned in high res instead of 640x480 pixels.

That would be tough considering all of Curse of Monkey Island was colored in Photoshop. As far as I know, only the actual outlines of the art were drawn in pencil and scanned in. That would be a lot of digital re-coloring. It would be cool though!

Oh well, one can only hope. Btw, do you know anything about whether this whole MI2 special edition thing is true or not? And if you do, are you allowed to say?

If they do this, they should also add the two missing cutscenes. They would help make the ending less rushed.

Surely there is but one choice?

But I think (I'm not sure about that, as both Bill Tiller and Bill Eaken couldn't remember exactly) the backgrounds were created at a slightly larger resolution and then scaled down (plus reduced in color). Probably not enough for HD...

Ah man, they should just get both Bills to re-color the backgrounds.

Can I just say, Patrick Stewart for narrator, and obviously ya gotta use Phil LaMarr for good ol' Captain Dread... Not only is he an extremely accomplished voice actor, but more importantly, on Futurama he is Hermes. Need I continue?

PS I am VERY EXCITED!!! One day I hope to be able to play all the Monkey Island games on my Xbox 360 and Wii!

In one of the trailers for MI:SE (I think) there was a little screenshot of some concept art (probably) for MI2 Guybrush (I think). Does anyone know what I'm talking about/want to post it? ^_^

An announcement is not the same as a release.

Looks even worse than the SMI:SE model

I'm pretty sure they said that this was just a conceptual thing to see what would guybrush look like when he's older.

    I think that's stretching it a bit :p

We'll have to wait and see. I really hope they got Guybrush's character model right this time around. LA can't possibly have ignored the barrage of negative feedback from the first SE.

Guybrush looks like he is about 56 years old in that model.

A fan did a MI2 version of the SMI:SE Guybrush that I thought was excellent. (The one on the right).
    http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs48/f/2009/182/a/2/Guybrush_Monkey_Island_2_by_Irishmile.png
I'd be fine with him looking similar to that.

Going back to voices: I think Kevin Blackton might be an acceptable candidate for Guybrush/LeChuck's father (since he is a mix between Guybrush (Human) and LeChuck (Demon), since he voiced human LeChuck in tales.) I'd also be happy with Charity James (EfMI Elaine) voicing Guybrush's mother. For a nice little cameo and a welcome back into the series after disregarding her in the SE and Tales.

Yep, I've got the voices all planned out!

Here's who I'd like to voice who:
    Guybrush - Dominic Armato
    Elaine - Alexandra Boyd
    LeChuck - Earl Boen
    Herman Toothrot - Wally Wingert
    Wally - Neil Ross
    Stan - Patrick Pinney
Voodoo Lady - Leilana Jones Wilmore
    Kate Capsize - Nikki Rapp
    Largo LaGrande - Dominic Armato
    Mr. Threepwood - Kevin Blackton
    Mrs. Threepwood - Charity James

Let's see if LucasArts follow my ideas! Ha!

Patrick Stewart as LeChuck's voodoo priest

Thought about it, but he would need to sound more raspy and evil.
    what about governor phatt?

Thought about it, but Patrick Stewart just isn't fat enough to sound right. Phatt is a big dumb jerk, not so much an intellectual.

Hence why it was a suggestion in jest, but if we wanted to go that way, just try to imagine Patrick Stewart doing the most hilarious Jamaican impression you've ever heard. That would be excellent indeed.

Patrick Stewart could play the innkeeper, at a stretch. But I prefer the voodoo priest idea.

Governor Phatt would be played perfectly by that guy that played Herod in Jesus (not to be confused with the King Herod of Bethlehem that ordered all baby boys be killed), the scene where he wants him to cross the water. I have no idea what he's doing now. He may well be retired.

Nah. Brian Blessed is made of the LeChuck kind of win, not the comedic fat flop that is Governor Phatt.

Okay, I'm giddy for this as no one spoiled pretty much any of it unlike SOMI for me, except for the ending.

BUT, I am more happy because this means maybe COMI:SE next year! :D

Sorry to dampen your spirits but I seriously that will happen anytime soon. They aren't doing this for the fans, they're doing it as a cheap-ish test to see if adventure games are viable again. MI2:SE is the equivalent of them putting their 2nd foot into the water. Hopefully breast stroke will follow. If not, chances are they'll retreat for another 10 years. :(

CMI:SE would need a new engine and a lot more work. The voice would need to be resampled I would have thought, the artwork coloured in again (maybe drawn again too), cutscenes finished...the list goes on.

I would be fine with a rerelease of the original untampered with. :D

Denny Delk would be perfect for the voodoo priest.

Maybe the Voodoo priest is Murray before he died in the explosion and LeChuck made him into a skeleton.

It can do. As fat seeps into the larynx and sets, a kind of mould is formed which can affect the acoustics of a person's voice.

(just kidding, but I think that after the third or fourth chin, a person's voice can get a little tight-throat-sounding).
  • edited March 2010
That's possible, but that would be for the voice actor to act, I'd say :P

LucasArts must be pissed at Alexandra Boyd. She can't keep a secret worth a damn.

    Also I'm buying 12 copies.

There was a rumour about 4 months ago that "LucasArts adventure game fans would be very happy around April 2010" ...

I hope this is true, MI 2 is my favourite in the series and my all time favourite game, I'm looking forward to seeing if they've acknowledged what the fans have said on the first Special Edition and improved upon the faults.

I'm most looking forward to know who will voice Largo and will it the include the deleted scene where we find out what happened to Wally on the raft and his monacle falls into the water?

As well as Alexandra, I never knew Dominic Armato had a twitter page as well, its located here http://twitter.com/SkilletDoux

I hope this is all true! I can't wait for it. I really enjoyed SMI:SE and the second game has so much potential. Its my favourite game in the series and I haven't played it in years. Exciting!
