I have to correct myself: he's an alligator, not a crocodile.
I seem to remember asking the innkeeper about him, though I might have imagined that (I'm always coming up with questions to ask NPC's that aren't included in dialogue trees ... )
Yay, now there's no longer a pillar right in front of the staircase. :P Pegbiter isn't just a pulsating green blob anymore, and his bowl actually has cheese squigglies in it! The door to Largo's room is still extremely narrow though.
Man, some of you guys are awfully demanding and picky. Whatever happened to artistic license? Obviously there are some issues or weird inconsistencies in both the old and new versions, but what does it really matter? With the exception of the static images in the first game, MI has never been "realistic" by any stretch, and the game has always been one of the best adventures of all times and still is.
As long as the SE is 99% true the original, I can deal with that 1% artistic license. From the looks of all those screenshots it's pretty apparent to me that LA is striving to make that the case.
Or was the sigh directed at just how terrible the editing is? Or how it is just unnecessary because it was the proper size and proportions in the first place?
Soooo, the map in the background is now Monkey Island instead of Scabb/Booty/Phatt?
It doesn't really look like Scabb/Booty/Phatt. Actually it looks more like 3 large islands (none of which are familiar) and even more tinier islands in the middle.

Actually, the one to the RIGHT looks eerily like Scabb Island:
Let's put all three pictures together, to make comparisons easier:
Apparently, they did mess up the maps a bit in the SE...
Another thing I noticed, is that the SE art seems so angular. Both in the original version and the concept art, things like Wally's bed and whatever that round thing is to the right of the table are round shapes. In the SE art, you can see the angles.
Also, the dent in Wally's table looks weird.
And like Avistew said, Guybrush's head looks weird. In the original art, you can clearly see his eye, but in the SE his head is turned so far you can't really see the eye anymore.
Well, that's enough nitpicking and art-bashing for one day
I like how some people are being too indepth with how accurate it is with the original purcell stuff when he himself didn't really think of them too highly.
Apologies to Mr Purcell, but I think the Special Edition artwork is better. Guybrush staring into the distance right over the top of people's heads all the time is really starting to grate with me though. He was like that in Curse as well, mind.
lined them up to be in the same size and orientation, as well as I could. The concept art doesn't really line up perfectly with the end product but I did what I could

Edit: Before...
or that guy
Mm, in the original, the wood actually appears to be wood. Here it's more polyethylene, like a bad movie set.
I always thought he seemed a bit small to be of any threat. Originally, I thought he was a lizard.
Somehow I've played that game end-to-end 4 or so times and am just now learning that he's NOT a lizard.

Another bad attempt at editing.
Yes, I did read Laserschwert's post.
Knuckles the Cartographer?
No, not really.
Yeah, only so much I can do with Paint. And, by the way, I only mess around with the images because I'm bored and have nothing better to do .
But he's like that in both of them, the eyes are just placed differently.

Why? You want to know WHY?! WELL LET ME JUST TELL YOU..
