I am wondering two possibilities - either he is referring to new in reference to the 1st game (cool) or to the original Revenge (not cool)

Unless Ron is involved...could it be....they'll add in the original "MI3" as the ending and reveal the secret?

Not surprising, but still pretty awesome. :D

It is possible. I mean, Craig Derrick did say something about revealing the secret in an unexpected way soon! Oh yeah, and when's it coming out?

I'm really looking forward to some screenshots.

Wow. There's barely a difference this time, although I hate how Guybrush's face looks like a LEGO.

I am as happy as a penguin sliding on its belly

Hmm, LeChuck looks pretty damn evil and Guybrush looks pretty damn heroic, in an idiotic way, but they got the looks perfect.
  • edited March 2010
Oh good, they're not adding in new stuff after all! The initial post sounded like they'd added new material/characters, which might not have been the best idea.

I'M SO EXCITED. Now I'll never get to sleep after staying up for the announcement...

sooo excited!!! this game doesn't work so well on my computer, it'll be nice to be able to play it again without all the fuss of trying to make it work properly.
  • edited March 2010
Holy crap - if there are new puzzles and enemies added to the END of the game with Ron on board to help... wow that would be great. That might be the only way that I'd be excited about new enemies and puzzles.
I'll probably eat those words when the game comes out.
Being able to hear voices with original graphics - awesome.
I wonder if they'll have hard and easy versions.

great to hear an official announcement, anyone think if this one goes well an update will be added to somi:se to add voice in classic mode and comentary?

It's FANTASTIC that you can hear the voices with the original graphics ... I hope they issue a patch for MI1:SE along those lines. I also hope this one doesn't REQUIRE SSE2, like MI1:SE does.

Special Edition Largo looks creepier... damn, no Kate screenshot!

Well, it looks like they manages to handle the IMUSE system very well, as well as the characters and backgrounds. This looks better than SOMISE. Btw, when is Summer in America?
  • edited March 2010
...well, I'm still scared of Zombie!LeChuck. And he sounds suspiciously like Earl Boen!

Both character design and background art looks quite a bit better than SMI:SE. Especially the background art seems very faithful to the original.

The work LucasArts have put into this release is awesome, and I can get it on my PS3. Can't wait!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2

Basically, it's a feature of newer processors. Adventure games published these days might well utilize it, but very few actually REQUIRE it. SOMI:SE is one of those few. For that reason, it's the first adventure game -- including ToMI -- not to work on my computer. And I can't just upgrade my processor, either. I'd need a new motherboard and video card in the process, and right now that's just too expensive. It would be one thing if there were features of SOMI:SE that wouldn't function with basic SSE processing, but that's not the case. They just chose not to program it that way, and have so far ignored the outcry from us "stone age" gamers who've requested a patch. :(

so if somi:se worked on my computer this one will most likely aswell?
  • edited March 2010
Well, assuming they don't start requiring SSE3 or SSE4 for this game, it should! :) Just check the system requirements when the game is released. SOMI:SE actually DID list the correct system specs, only the SSE2 req was not directly alluded to. I figured since my processor was FAST enough, it wouldn't be a problem. No dice! I still haven't played the game, although I own it ... I just don't have a machine it works on yet! Someday...

I say the following as someone that has absolutely no problem with Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. Some here may know me as being overly critical, but I give Secret of Monkey Island at least a 9/10 easily.

The Special Edition "box art" is desecration. The monkey's expression is wrong. The whole tone of the scene is wrong. The thing lacks the intricate detail and everything that made the original great. I actively HATE it.

Guybrush's new hair? I dunno. I didn't mind the old hair too much, but obviously it wouldn't carry over anyway. Not sure I like it. I think I need to see it in more detail.

When not on the cover, the new Zombie LeChuck model looks awesome.

Secret Special Edition is coming to the Telltale Store, from what I hear. Does that mean I can buy LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition here, too? I'd like that. I bought the first Special Edition for the Xbox because it was the one distribution system I trusted not to be a bother(I still mostly use Steam for multiplayer games).

I just compared the two, and I didn't see that much of a difference between the monkeys (which one you mean, the logo one or the other?)

You can see it here, along with other hq screens:

really hope a patch is released for SOMI:SE to add some of the new features that will be in LR:SE

Also couldnt see much of a difference between the old and new monkey on the cover art.

The monkey by Guybrush. He's more like "Oooh, this looks interesting!". In the original, he looks horrified.

LeChuck looks pretty goofy, the lighting's all wrong, the Guybrush doll is also wrong. The logo has that annoying plastic Web 2.0 sheen on it. A bunch of other details that on their own aren't too big, but together just ruin the entire composition, just piss me off.

I completely agree Rather Dashing, the new boxart is HORRIBLE. I'm saying this not only because of the issues you've raised, but because I have enormous respect for the time & work that went into creating the original and pure awesomeness of the original cover. I wonder what Steve thinks about it... I mean, it lacks all sense of drama, mystery and COLOUR that makes the original so awesome. I'm absolutely outraged about the new box-art. As the old saying goes: if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

However, I do like where they're going with the in-game art. It's much better and professional looking than the previous SE release. Not sure about the other stuff, but I can tell from first hand it's got more of a polished look. However, the colours look really un-saturated in both the laundry yard as well as the bridge scene. The cavern with Guybrush and Elaine looks good, but that's only one shot...

My eyebrows raised when they mentioned re-imagined animation brought to feature-quality style. Hmmm... Curious to know how good that's going to look... I'm looking forward to that though, it's shaping up to be an exciting looking re-imagination.

I'm still outraged about the cover though...

Im not a big fan of special editions but i must say that this one looks pretty.

About the boxart, come on guys, its obvious that such an iconic and wonderfull cover like the one of Monkey 2 cant be improved in any way. Stop looking at it like if it had to be better than the original. They cant use the original art, they must make a new one with the new looks, and so they did.
