And remember guys, I'm actually fairly certain this has no bearing on the actual game, which looks fantastic.
See, people wouldn't have been so flustered if you'd stuck that in your original rant. I don't think you realize how strong you come across. I'm sure you're a nice guy, but you do twist that aggression knob a bit too often sometimes.
I like Rather Dashing's opinions personally. I like to see some scathing commentary on things; some down to earth honesty. I wouldn't be happy if he started toning it down.
There's a difference between being honest and aggressive, though. I've been mostly a little reserved with anything I'm not happy about, my own way of encouraging developers and telling them they're doing a good job, but I've been thinking that I need to be a bit more open. Still, though, I'm not going to wack every other person on the head with my metaphorical baton.

I'm sorry I got annoyed with you the other day.
Let's all shake hands and make up. Or maybe we could hug instead? Yeah, hugging sounds good to me. Maybe just a little kiss on the cheek. Maybe even on the mouth. And I'm not against open-mouthed either. Also, a little tongue never hurt anyone. And maybe we could be naked.

Eh, I'm not fond of putting up disclaimers on everything to say "Because I say I don't like THIS thing doesn't mean I don't like THAT thing", which seems pretty self-evident. People have certainly been allowed to say they hate the North American box art to Mega Man for YEARS without much trouble. I don't even see what would have been so bad if I did have a lot of issues with the Special Edition that made it unplayable for me. I mean, I could really even understand if someone did react strongly and negatively to the in-game art.

if they're going to add voices to the classic game style that would be awesome. I hope they go back and do the same for MI1. The updated graphics are neat, but I could take or leave it.
Actually, when I first saw the new cover art, I did think it was nowhere near as good as the original, and Guybrush didn't look anywhere near as agonised as he should. However, the new cover is basically a copy of the old one done in the in-game art style. Had the original cover used the in-game art style, it would have been a lot more pixel-y.
And, as has been pointed out multiple times already, the game isn't going to be sold in stores like the original was, so the box doesn't need to look as pretty/attention-grabbing. It would be nice, but I'd rather they spend that money/put that effort into the actual game.
I'm so excited! This looks way better than SOMI:SE and I'm glad there's voices available in classic mode. Only thing I'd nitpick is Elaine looking so old but pffffttt.
I wonder how they're going to reveal the secret? Offhand remark in the commentary track? New game? They change the ending? Why do I get this feeling it's the first one...

Maybe you skimmed over the numbered list and missed the high-resolution images, but it's HARDLY a copy. Perhaps I could put them side-by side and highlight the vast majority of the changes in the actual make-up of the picture, but I'm pretty sure people are sick of that and I'm also pretty sure people can read, even if they show an aversion to the practice.

Ah, the "if you do something well you sacrifice doing something else well" logic. Then I'm sorry for you that they didn't do this for the Special Edition cover, because then we might have had even more new features and better artwork.
Wow may be now I can finish MI2 LCR SE, the last time I played it was back in 1994/5 before I sold my Amiga 500, I was stuck in the jungle part and gave up.
I still have not finished EFMI yet so am going to be in for another Monkey Island year again.:D:eek:
I'm so made up because now I have SOMI SE and all the rest i can play in order once I buy MI2 SE.
Last year TOMI now this were been spoil't rotten
I have the originals but could never get them to work on my pc, there must have been something wrong with my floppy's, I have a floppy drive and everything, does not matter now with this great news.

It's Zombie LeChuck sticking pins in the head of a Guybrush voodoo doll while the real Guybrush clutches his head in the background. I think that would generally be considered close enough to be a copy.

Yes, they could do that, but that wouldn't be much good for promotion on the internet, would it?
Wow, this is brilliant news! I've never played LR!
Also, i read this on kotaku:
LucasArts also announced today that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will soon be available for digital download on the PS3 via the PlayStation Network, for the Mac from Aspyr's www.GameAgent.com, and for the PC via the Telltale Games online store at www.TelltaleGames.com and Instant Action's www.InstantAction.com
It's good to see they are putting the original on PSN, and that it coming from more places for PC.

In that case, here is my copy of the LeChuck's Revenge box art. I suppose that, because it's a copy(by your standards) in a different style, it's fit to go up on the LucasArts site.
Yes, they could do that, but that wouldn't be much good for promotion on the internet, would it?
It's amazing how a person can trip over the point and still not notice it.

Oooooo, ice-burn. With artistic talent like that, why don't you apply for a job with them? Obviously you've put even more effort into that crudely-drawn MS Paint image than they put into the new cover art.
It's amazing how a person can trip over the point and still not notice it.
My point was that they don't need a beautiful painting by Steve Purcell on the cover to sell something that doesn't HAVE a physical cover. Back in the day, the original cover would make people go 'wow, what's that?' and pick it up in the store. The SE isn't going to be sold in stores, it'll be sold online. It's amazing how a person can completely ignore points that don't agree with their own.

Certainly hyperbole was involved. Notice how you think the MS Paint drawing is crude despite fitting each of the listed criteria for a copy. Maybe, just mayube, there is more to an image than a short sentence that provides a brief overview of the main, overarching elements. This was hyperbole on my part? Of course it was. It was meant to illustrate a point in a simple fashion without having to go into a long, semantic argument.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that was the point.
Except, wait, that's not what was expressed at all. Let's go back to the quote.
Yes, they could do that, but that wouldn't be much good for promotion on the internet, would it?
The post you expressed here was, hey, not finishing the cover art wouldn't be good for web promotion. You also said that bad cover art made the game better, but didn't seem to continue along that thread very long.
But okay, let's assume you did express the point that the box doesn't matter. Why did they do it? Why bother? They obviously had the main IDEA of showing reverence to the original composition, because the main ideas are there. They wanted to evoke nostalgia.
They did it badly. That is a valid assessment of the art they churned out.
Yes, it is getting silly, and reminding me of the old saying regarding arguing on the internet being like running in the Special Olympics... well, you know the rest.
I thought that an SE version of Zombie!LeChuck would be less scary than the original, but the more I see him on the official site, the more I think I'm going to need a friend with me to complete the game, so that they can play through Under Dinky Island while I cover my eyes...
really hope a patch is released for SOMI:SE to add some of the new features that will be in LR:SE
Agreed but lucasarts have a history of not really being fans of patches. Likely gonna have to wait for a secret of monkey island special edition 2 now grrrr

Is this true? No Steam this time? I can buy it right here?
You can buy SOMI:SE here. You can't buy LCR:SE here.
Ugh, I hate when people make vast assumptions. There is no reason to believe that we won't be able to purchase both special editions on Telltale's website.
You can buy SOMI:SE here. You can't buy LCR:SE here.
But how do you know that though? It is still possible, and I think it would make sense, plus they haven't even announced what form of digital distribution Monkey Island 2 is going to be on PC.
EDIT: Dang, plrichard, you beat me to it. Also, some more facts about the commentary on Gamespot.com.
You can buy SOMI:SE here. You can't buy LCR:SE here.
I don't think that's been overtly confirmed. Granted, all we've heard is that LCR will be available as a digital download and Secret will be available from Telltale, but I think it's reasonable to assume that it's fairly likely we'll see LeChuck's Revenge launch on this site too.
What i'm asking myself when looking at Fargo as an example is, why did they exaggerate the character this much instead of drawing him the way he was looking before, just with more detail. I mean compared to the new look he was quite handsome before.
Oh and they didn't paint the sandy island in the upper middle of the map. How could they dare?! ;O)

Metaphorical batons are for people too soft to use substantive batons.
Also, every other person? That's hardly thorough.
Way ahead of ya.
Hey, I don't know what you plan on doing, but try not to get your keyboard sticky.
