This is what I've been waiting for :)

Amazing. I loved SMI:SE but this looks about a million times better.

Ah, Woodtick. I've been listening to the theme in the background for ages. Hopefully they'll use the same system where the music alters between sub locations.

Its always good to see the Men of Low Moral Fibre (Pirates). And holy cow - the screenshot of Largo holding Guybrush over the bridge is amazing.

    Can't wait.

I like watching LeChuck shamble across the screen like a creeper. :D I also like how it sounds like Lucasarts is lavishing even more love on this than they did with Secret.

This is excellent news. Hopefully if this goes well, they'll do more special editions or maybe *gasp* a new adventure game!

But that may be way too optimistic.

...I don't understand why you'd be excited from a new game by LucasArts. They are not the old LucasArts. That LucasArts is split, a good chunk of it at Telltale.

I mean, the new guys are talented and have potential, but I've seen no signs to indicate joyful optimism.

but if both special editions are coming to the telltale store
    what?

Considering the original boxarts for the first two MI games were nowhere near indicative of the art in the games proper, changing the covers into an art style equivalent to the new versions doesn't really make much sense.

Personally I always disliked the fact the original boxes (and close-ups) weren't indicative of the in-game graphic style, so from my perspective it makes more sense that they are now consistent.

    Definitely looks better than Secret.
Can't access the lucasart site from here so i can't comment on the animations, but i wish i could. The characters art still bother me a bit... Mostly due to nostalgia i guess, but still.
I probably won't bother myself, just like i didn't for Secret's rerelease, but nice to see them get better. The fact that they actually seem to have reacted to the fan's feedback is a good thing too, seems like lucasart might definitely be on the right track to become cool again.

i don't get what the all 'direct control' scheme is adding to the game. And i still have doubts about the Imuse implementation with digital music for this game (but i guess that's the first thing I'll find out when the game comes out, since Woodtick is the best place to check it out)

Point and click is only good when you have a mouse. For all the consoles with a game controller, direct control should be much more comfortable. But it says that the direct control is optional, so no probs.

Why that's great news! :guybrush: Although I actually liked MI 1 better, the special edition of MI 2 looks way more promising, somehow. I just have an issue with the way Guybrush moves around the screen...looks a little edgy to me...

And yeah, is that Earl I hear laughing??
  • edited March 2010
I liked that they've added the squiggly Bill Tiller clouds to the art, but other than that, it looks like the same "resize-repaint" job they did in MI1SE.

I didn't much care for the original so i am kinda wondering if i would care for this one. I started playing Monkey island with the 3rd one. The 4th one was one of the worst adventure game i played from Lucasarts so ... i'd say i was not a huge Monkey Island fan to begin with. TOMI kinda changed that, cause it was awesome:) But this one? Mmmm

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

MI1&2 are definately worth beeing played, so go for them!

Beside of this i'll replay it without the, how should i say, joy of swapping 11 disks in two drives.

I'm just blinded and deafened with joy to see that PS3/PSN is no longer the lonely neglected kid in the corner when it comes to pure adventure gaming.

Has anyone seen the screenshot outside Dreads ship? doesn't that awfully look at lot like that fan made concept screenshot from the super-uber edition videos on YouTube

Look at the word "wanted" on the poster. instead of taking advantage of the higher resolution, you can see they've just created huge pixels like it's the original, except the original didn't have a choice, and they do.

There's Monkey Island 2 in the Crysis engine, and there's the Monkey Island 2 Special-Uber edition videos. Both show off a part of MI2 in 3D. The latter was referred to, but the former looks nice too.

I'm talking about a shot from the actual SE. i was made to believe there's a screenshot of that scene from the previous posts.

edit: oops, nevermind, i thought people were referring to this scene.

Try that with one drive. That was even more fun.

There are only 2 potential things that worry me.

    1) iMuse. I'm curious to see how they've handled it. Though I trust they've prepared themselves appropriately for this task.

    2) Music in classic mode. I'm hoping they include Adlib emulation. But they didn't when they rereleased Last Crusade choosing instead to include the Tandy 3-voice soundtrack.

There's also a potential issue with the graphics and animation together giving a very "flash game" persona. This isn't going to bother me, but I know there will be people who will complain about it.

The animation in the original was a lot better and more diverse than in Secret, so I don't think it's going to be that much of an issue anymore. Also, looking at LeChuck's and the sleeping pirates animation on the official website looks good, imo.

Maybe but on the other side you missed the Hmm in which drive did i put which disk again?! interludes.

I'm excited about the game, but does anyone besides me think that this box art looks dumb? I think it does.

Don't be surprised if we get annoyed by it then. Moral of the story: don't post something "new" if you're not going to read the whole thread beforehand. It's like the rule where you have to use the forum search tool before you post something stupid. I hate that.

Hmm, mixed feelings… the woodtick-music is so damn good, and LuChucks walking-animation is great (and scary as in the original).

Still, what I’m afraid of are designers who makes mistakes like the missing concrete and rebars.

But the opportunity to play the game in classic mode with voice (and music?) is good news. Will there be an update for »Secret of Monkey Island« as well?

The official press release from LucasArts says that only SOMI:SE will be sold through the Telltale Store.

I was thinking about this, and I can't stop imagining how those roots transform more and more into those steel bars each time we come back to the Elaine & Guybrush scene. I mean, it was some kind of give-away in the original, as we see the concrete dome with the metalbars right in the beginning of the game. But having it as a slow reveal? Might work... of course I don't know if they though that way.

Speaking of which: When does the TMI DVD come out?

I hope this time they'll remember to add the skip dialog button in the SE ver.

Oh I loved that that was a "giveaway" at the beginning. It was a huge mystery to plant in my head, from the very first shot of the game. That whole first image is an amazing start to a game. Why is Guybrush hanging from a rope holding a treasure chest? Why does the hole look like it was exploded and not dug? Etc. Presenting all of that mysterious stuff from moment one was such a cool move. I still love it.
  • edited March 2010
Yeah, I'd prefer it too, but obviously they're going some other way... we'll see.

Rather Dashing, regarding Guybrush's expression, I didn't believe in it in the original either. In the original, well what is he even doing there? It looks like he's about to say, Oh no! He did it again! followed by a "Wah wah wah" sound effect. It doesn't look like he's terrified; I hate Guybrush's faces on both versions. In the new one he has a LEGO head.

I do wish they had gotten permission to use the original art, but as stand-in art, related to the redone style, the poster doesn't look too bad. Okay it looks like a children's game now, but it.....I like how LeChuck looks anyway.
