Page 2 has more pathetic whinging than the rest of the week's posts combined =)

    Holy crap, people =)

I hope nobody's taking Pariah King's sarcasm seriously.

Just to put in my two pence/cents, I don't mind the cover. Yes, it could be better, but it's not awful, it's not even bad. It's different, and if your going to alter the amazing piece of artwork that the cover of LeChuck's Revenge is to such a degree, then there will of course be minor problems with it and small differences that people are bound to complain about. It's unavoidable. Yes, the cover has problems, but they're not worth redoing the cover all over again for. If they do redo it, then that's fine and hats off to them, but it's not a priority and it isn't essential that they do so. I say we just deal with it.

No, PK's stuff is funny. Many of the other comments are some of the nerdliest nerding I've seen on the Internet for quite a while. That's the ENTIRE INTERNET, which is FULL OF NERDING.
  • edited March 2010
I didn't see anything particularly nerdy. Or at least anything more than usual.
  • edited March 2010
I am really confused now. Are people mad at me? I need to know, so I can get rid of my stupid posts.

They aren't mad at you. Just some of them are jealous of you getting that award.

This SE looks FANTASTIC! Really really amazing, they improved EVERYTHING from the first SE, well except the cover art, I have to agree with the whiners on this one. It is a horrible insult to the original cover by Purcell.

The main issue is Guybrush's face! Although the whole thing pails in comparison to the beauty of Purcell's artwork. I have the original printed and framed in my house (thanks to Laserschwert)

The first SE cover was pretty bad too (mainly because of Guybrush's hair), so just like I did with that, I took the liberty to fix/improve the cover :)

    monkeyisland2SE-fixed.jpg

    Much better I think :)

But don't get me wrong, I'm not super upset by this. It's a downloadable game anyway and we will always have the original art, it's just a shame it's so poor in comparison to the great work done on the in game sprites and backgrounds, which all look fantastic to me.

EDIT: Link to a 3-way comparison (original, SE then my "fixed/improved" version).

    ...

Mathematically Named User, I like your cover fix.

Wow, parabolee, you've done a great job on that!

Yeah, it's amazing how effective just changing the filter can be! (and of course, changing guybrush).

As long as we're changing stuff, I think there's a problem with LeChuck's face as well, though I have no idea what it could be. I'm no artist. Something just seems off.

Funny you should mention that because I was just about to post my v2 with some small improvements, the main one being LeChuck's face :-D

    monkeyisland2SE-fixedv2.jpg

And that 3-way again with the v2.

Hmmm I'm not sure if it's necessarily the colour tone that needs changing. Just the facial features themselves.

But if it's a digital download it won't actually have a cover ;)

    Quiet you.;)

I think Lechucks problem is that he's too angular.

    That improved cover looks great!
I do have one suggestion: Don't save the image as JPEG. Every time you save an image like that, the quality is reduced a bit. You can already see some JPEG artifacts starting to appear just above LeChuck's head, among other places.
Try saving the image as PNG. The file may become a bit larger, but not by much, and at least the great quality of the image will be preserved.
Other than that, like I said, great cover! :)

LeChuck's beard look a little bit like Lego but otherwise it's good.

I just took the cover into photoshop and tried to mend LeChuck's face a little bit. I made it scarier/less goofy looking (and less simplistic and angular too). It's a bit sketchy (there are a couple of rough bits/weird brush strokes), but I only spent like 10 minutes on it to see what it'd be like :P

    Here's a side-by-side comparison:
    lechuckcomparison.png

Unfortunately though, I'm not sure whether it fits in with the rest of the cover, but meh:
    lechuckfixcopy.png

I have to say though, LA's cover could have been a lot worse. I'm still pretty happy with it.

Edit: Nice cover, Parabolee! Feel free to mess around with my LeChuck to your heart's content :p

    Thanks

Well the artifacts are from the original (made worse by the crosshatch filer). I'm editing from PSD, so there are no losses from the original. I can export at higher quality if you like. Wait...done.

Oh and Laserschwert, my bad, spelling fixed :)

    You guys are great.
I love the modified LeChuck face, do you think you could tinker a little bit with the beard too?

Nice work yourself. I have added in your new face and made a few more changes so it's fits in with mine. NOW we are getting somewhere. Sad thing is we will have to do this all again when we get our grubby mits on a nice HD version, then we can make some wallpapers :-D

Oh and updated 3 headed version for comparison fetishists.

I plan on using Paint Shop Pro to make a version of this cover art with no text, so I can display it alongside my original MI2 boxart poster (which also has no text, it is just the image). I very much like the idea of both posters side-by-side, old and new respectively.

Though I'm fairly adept at image manipulation, if someone else more skilled than I can find/create a non-text version of this art I'd be indebted.

I'm gonna make a start on it tonight. If my attempts are anywhere close to satsfactory I'll be sure to post it on these forums.

I would wait for a HD version if I were you. This one is too low resolution for printing.

THIS is MUCH better! Use this face!

I still say his skin colour shouldn't change. Keep him green.

Okay, I'd take parabolee's work on the new cover but with LeChuck in green. And the new LeChuck face from Fealiks. And not the parts that come from the old cover, I think if we're taking bits of the old cover might as well use the old cover directly, you know?
Then add Spadge's monkey and possibly his LeChuck's eyes.

I think GB still needs more work though.

LOVE what you did to the monkey there. It's amazing how that relatively minor adjustment totally changes the little guy's tone.

I took on avistew's advice and re-did the beard (I didn't think it would work at first, but I think it's made the face fit in a little better). I also went over and made the face a little better (including adding things like eyebrows and Purcell's ear-ring).

Doesn't look right with his eyes looking at the doll. Liked it better when he was looking at the screen.
  • edited March 2010
You know, the more you fiddle with the pic, the less it looks like the art style of the actual game, which is completely missing the point.

    Great work on the beard!
