Do you want Lucasarts to reveal the secret at MI2:SE?

Do you want Lucasarts to reveal the secret at "Monkey Island 2 LeChuck's revenge: Special Edition"?

I voted for a new game.

There is no secret, and if there is, I don't want it revealed.

No, I don't want the revelation half baked. They would have to make a new game.
  • edited March 2010
No, I never want the secret revealed. Seriously, I don't.

There is no secret to reveal.

Perhaps we could build a super computer to figure out the answer...

They should hire Ron again and make "Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island 3", with full orchestrated soundtrack, voice acting and HD graphics. Same point and click interface. Ron himself should decide if there is a need to tell the secret.
Then, they should release a retail DVD "The Monkey Island Special Edition Trilogy".

    That won't happen.

    errr... no

I doubt anyone can cancel the games that happened. What would be interesting though is the expand the MI2 Special edition seeing Ron and Tim gave interviews (and perhaps a bit more) to push a bit the player more than the ending and thus revealing exactly what really happened. It would be very interesting if that happened. I don't think is fair to cancel Curse and Escape (although the later is wishable :) ) so I would prefer the revelation being done in the Special Edition of Lechucks Revenge.

Sounds good to me. Doubt it will happen, but it'd be great if it did.

I think the not knowing is a lot more fun... Besides its been the topic of so much debate that NOTHING they could think of would ever meet our expectations... I mean seriously look at how we all whine about any minor detail they mess with... but I suppose its because we are in love with this stuff.

When they do reveal it they should put a note (NOW COMES THE SECRET. THIS IS WHAT RON GILBER WANTED SO WHINE AT HIM) and reveal it!!
    Ha ha ha ha
  • edited March 2010
Yes, reveal it. I'm tired of not knowing. If there is no secret at least we'll have closure.
  • edited March 2010
I wonder if it's possible to reveal the secret without disappointing everyone. I mean, what could possibly be a suitable secret?

A Monkey Island Special Edition DVD might happen, but a Ron Gilbert MI3 won't.

I'd say a Ron Gilbert game would be impossible earlier. But with Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog getting retro-styled games, and LucasArts releasing Secret and LeChuck's Revenge again with new, HD graphics while also licensing the property out to Telltale, ANYTHING does seem possible, doesn't it?

Still, if they're not planning any such thing, the "Developer Commentary" would be a great place to finally get the secret out.

I've seen a lot of potential answers that I'd be happy with. And I'd be glad to get any answer, from the greatest explanation in the world to there actually not being any secret in mind from day 1. Because not knowing what it is has been more frustrating than fun.

No, I think the revelation of the secret deserves something a little bigger. A cutscene, at least (with the Voodoo Lady).

Wow. Total wrong use of the word 'know' there. Through me right off.

It has been 20 years since the first game. The classics are being revamped, the series has been re-started after years of stagnation, and the original developers are getting together to talk about what many would call their magnum opus. I dunno, LeChuck's Revenge seems "big" enough to me, and I don't want them to, you know, affect the game that actually came out.

Whoa, I never do that ! Oh well, it's 12:30 a.m. here in Australia, so I guess you can cut me some slack.

Maybe a post-credits cutscene. I'm sure that couldn't really hurt too much.

    It's all good lol.

    'bonus features'.
Surely stuff can be added aside from the game, not all the bonus have to be stuffed in it (see: Treasure hunt, ToMI).

Well, I think when people finish MI2 special edition (with and without the commentary) and if they reveal the secret, people are going to stay away from this forum for as long as possible! We all know what happened with Tales chapter 5, right?

Well, someone started posting spoilers of what was going to happen in the game, before it was released. I suspected him/her to be a game pirater because the following day the same person posted the intro to the game on youtube, and provided free download links for all the episodes!

IF they reveal it, it must be in MI3a, which I guess is not impossible after they remade the first two games now. It would now be the perfect opportunity.
If it's just half-assed-ly thrown out at the people to satisfy those who want to know it so desperately, then I'd prefer not knowing about the secret over what we have now.

The Secret deserves whole new game. Revealing it in second part of five-part series breaks the continuity, and that's just wrong. The series has it's weaker points, but none of the games deserves to be marked as non-existant.

I'd like to think of it as an alternate continuity. Not wiping the others out.
CMI and TMI (and even EMI) were all good games. Pretending they never existed is something I'd never do.
But MI3a was definitely supposed to be something WAY different than those 3 games, as far as my feeling goes, and this is why I think revealing the secret in let's say TMI2 wouldn't work.

Keep it a secret or make an all new block busting game.
"the secret of monkey island " is too big ( and potentially money spinning ) to be tagged on as an afterthought at the end of an end of season .:D

That's a kind of idea, but creating alternate continuity just for one game and then comming back to the one established by Curse, Escape and Tales might be a little confusing for non-hardcore fans.

You got a point here, but why not create some more games to prepare proper background and fix some continuity holes? I can wait patiently for the revelation if that means I get more Monkey Island goodness.

The Secret of Monkey Island was meant to be revealed at the end of the first game.
If there ACTUALLY was a secret to be revealed, then Ron Gilbert should reveal it somehow. But maybe it's too late for a new Monkey Island 3.

There is a secret, but I'm sure even the developers don't know it. Not even Ron Gilbert. If this secret is revealed, it's gonna be something that's been made up just recently.

Uhm, no I don't think he's been lying to the masses for 20 years. And he's already said numerous times that had the story for MI3 already in his head and that the secret would be revealed in that.

Also, how can there be a secret if nobody made it contain a secret. Monkey Island doesn't have a life of its own, you know. Ron Gilbert knows the secret, 'cause he invented the secret. A game doesn't create itself.

I want a full game made that reveals the secret in the end. I don't just want a cutscene or a small playable scene; that would be almost an insult to the fans who have waited so long for it. Unless it was done really really REALLY well.

I doubt that there is actually a secret beyond the obvious.

If there is one, and it isn't stupid, just don't execute it in a way that sucks.
