I liked Last Action Hero. It was a brilliant parody. If you take it seriously, yes, you will hate it. It was supposed to be cliché. All the commonly used action scenes are there...they are exaggerated and insane. Its problem was it's subtility...it was only liked by little kids who didn't care and action movie nerds.
Yeah the "wrap-around" was weak, but since it's individual action and comedy scenes were unique(in being parodied at the time), it will have a special place in my heart.

I like Last Action Hero too. It's good fun and there's some nice gags in there, such as the Stallone Terminator 2 poster. I never understood why it gets so much hate. Other movies that got a lot of hate upon release but I enjoy are Waterworld and Hook.

I like the 'Pages Related to Your Post' feature on Facebook - it makes for some pretty entertaining/hilarious results.

Well there are certainly some laughs to be had in terms of its cheeziness level.

I saw both at drive-ins back when those still existed(long gone from the big city). I enjoyed Hook quite a bit. I think it was just over hyped and people expected too much....Spielberg, Hoffman, Roberts, Hoskins. Then add in the fact that it claimed to be based on the book....to which the screenplay was rewritten by 4 people. I admit I have not read the book, but I doubt it follows it very faithfully after 3 different people got a hold of it(the original writer did get a shot at it). Oh well, I liked it. Waterworld...not so much. The acting wasnt great and when you sit for 3hrs(yeah i had the privilege of seeing the director's cut)...you just cant wait for it to end. ...and then there's the budget...175 million in 1994 was insane for what is essentially mad max on water. Personally, I didn't really get into the story either... but hey, people like different things and I can respect that.

To give people some perspective, Jumanji came out the same year as Waterworld, made the same amount of money and only cost 50 million. The special effects action juggernaut that was T2 only cost 102 million as well.

...and then there's the budget...175 million in 1994 was insane for what is essentially mad max on water.

You've essentially just given the reason for Waterworld's failure at the Box-Office. There was a level of disgust from the critics at the preposterous amount of money that Universal threw at Waterworld's production. This in turn led to not only negative, but downright hostile reviews from said critics. This then caused the public to hold the movie in distain, therefore staying away from the cinema, and ultimately hammering the final nail in the coffin of Waterworld. Although, I believe it's more than made its budget back in the years since its release, through TV syndication and home video.

I'm not a huge fan of Waterworld but I do find it to be an enjoyable enough romp. Like you said, it's very much a Mad Max Lite type of experience... on water. Considering the premise, the film actually does a reasonable job of realising the concept. It contains all of the elements you might have come to expect from a Hollywood Summer blockbuster, such as; action, character development, romance and comedy (I'm sorry but this scene is hilarious. Fact).

It sure ain't Gone With the Wind or even Mad Max for that matter, but that doesn't mean that Waterworld didn't receive reviews that were disproportionately critical towards the movie, mostly down to economical factors far beyond how enjoyable of an experience it was as a piece of entertainment.

One of the things that's great about this forum is its randomness. Well, this is the epitome of it: a thread for whatever random thought happens to be passing through your mind.

For example, I've just been struck by the most random craving for Taco Bell nachos.

Oh really? I do not care for the nachos from Taco Bell, or anything from Taco Bell really.

Actually, according to IMDB, it made more than it's money at the box office...just not in america. So it did all right. It just wasn't what they hoped for after getting massive Costner returns for 'Wolves and Robin Hood..

Puzzle Agent is more vaule for money if you don't think you will have enough money to get it if you get Hector then wait for PA2.

I think all of the following threads (and more) should be considered candidates for "forum game" status:

Rate The Last Movie(s) You Watched
    The Last Item You Purchased?
    Favourite Bands?
which games are you currently playing
Rate The Last Song(s) You Heard
What do you look like? (Post a Pic!)

All of these threads don't promote any kind of conversation beyond just yelling out stuff about yourself into a sea of people doing the same.

Why can't I figure women out. I think I'm going to begin to study women again, it's almost like God, the true pattern is impossible to detect because it's like op art and changes locally and you can't get to the source directly, only from the source locally.

That's why God has so many different faces as he is believed to exist, because of so many different human actions and observations....it has all the faces we are capable of imagining, but we can't imagine it's true "face", it doesn't have one. It's just nodes and everything is everything!

So hard to understand, predict, I hold as my most profound philosophy...that God must be a Woman! Only a woman could fool man for as long as he's been fooled!

Only a woman is capable of all that has been done.

    I'm joking...(This is a joke)

    (All in good fun. *_*)

Except this one has actual movie discussion in it. Hell, I might as well rename it to Movie Discussion Thread.

More than half the posts are still just "I saw this movie and this is what I thought about it" rather than actual focused discussion on a specific movie, and I'd much rather have a topic devoted to a specific film (like the thread for Pirates 4) than one topic where people talk about 30 different films for a post or two.

Screw it, let's just shove every thread ever into the "Forum Games" section. After all, every thread ever is 50% narcissistic by nature. So yeah, they should all be banished to the forum games section. Then the entire Internet should be renamed "The Internet Games". Then life itself should be renamed "The Life Games". Then God should have his titled changed to "God Games". Yeah, that's a smart idea...

...people can be such kill joys.

"Every thread ever" includes topics where the primary focus is on actually having a conversation. None of the above threads were created with the intent of harboring any substantial conversation.

There's a difference between "tell us what movie you just watched" and "what do you like or dislike about this specific movie", the primary difference being that the latter actually encourages discussion and debate focused on a single topic, whereas the former usually just consists of the majority of people posting things that are completely unrelated to anything else posted in the entire thread.

I can see your point about the "last thing you bought" one, but I actually do think the movie thread is contributing. I go there to see what people thought of some movies before I go see them, or I decide to check out movies based on what other people have watched, even older movies at times. I think it qualifies as general chat.
As for the picture thread, most forums have a thread where everyone posts their picture, and I think it's good to have it in the general chat, as anyone looking for it would have no reason to go look in the forum games.

I can't comment on the others as I don't really check them out.

It's been tried. Such topics don't really go far around here- Example: The Prometheus thread. The Pirates thread is the first. I stopped expecting full healthy discussion from this forum a long time ago.

Eh. Who cares how many threads they move to Forum Games? I have my actual post count right above the "forum calculated one" so that everyone knows how much I actually contribute.

Lots. Maybe in a little bit I'll switch it to "Lots and lots". Or maybe "Loads".

Prometheus isn't even coming out for just over a year from now, and there aren't a ton of details about it yet, so the fact that no one participated much in the thread isn't that surprising.

    Brilliant!

But...given my gender it also doesn't make much sense. I am sad.

What I really want is a randomized post count that fluctuates every time I make a post. Because that would be awesome.

Really? Not surprising? On SuperHeroHype's Super 8 thread, which next to nothing is really known about, there are 982 replies and nearly 8000 views. Their Pirates 4 thread also puts ours to shame, with the first topic having to have been closed and a second topic opens, which is now at nearly 800 replies and nearly 800 views...which is kind of weird, but still, it proves that actual movie discussion can go on forever on next to nothing. You should see their boards on the next Nolan Batman movie, which discusses every single little bit of casting and every single actor, and every single set photo and every single leaked image and the website and every rumor etc etc.
