You fail to grasp the depths of my laziness. Why actually read through things on the Control Panel to find the right setting to use, when I can easily pester Guru for a step-by-step instruction on how to do it?

    Also, Apple fanGIRL.
You could also do a Google search for "How to turn off Windows Update" and "How to turn off UAC", which seems easier than pestering to me.

    Also:

    (also btw I love ilomilo)

You don't understand, work is like misery. If you spread it around, even if it means more actual work, the implied work is actually lessened. TRUFAX.

Right but see, Kenny could say no. And if he does, you might have to pester him twice. You never have to ask Google twice, Google just goes "A-OK! I'll go get that for ya!" Worse than having him say no, though, someone like me may came in to question your efficiency, causing you to spend effort explaining it. It's more effort for you still. And don't forget that Kenny can take time to respond, time during which you may spend extra effort still dealing with Windows Update and UAC woes.

Except there's a third option. I completely forget about the whole thing, which takes absolutely no effort at all. Then, in a few hours, Kenny posts his solution and it's like a free gift! And I feel like I haven't done any work at all!

It's brilliant, that's what it is.

I didn't bother turning Windows Update off. I have no problem with Windows Update (and I'm dumbfounded by the number of people who do have some problem with it). All I did was make it so that when it does update, it doesn't automatically restart my computer. If that's what anyone else is looking to do, here's the steps.

    1. Open "Run" in the start menu and enter "gpedit.msc".
    2. In the Group Policy window that opens, go to Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
    3. Double-click on "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations", and choose "Enable".

I also tried messing with "Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations" to try and make it stop bugging me to restart, but it didn't seem to change anything.

    Now quit bickering, children.

Thank you, Kenny, for allowing me to not do work and also get rid of annoying updates that happen at the worst possible times (such as in the middle of a boss battle).

Why would you turn updates off? Then you don't get automatic updates and you have to manually get them when you want something new. That sounds impractical.

Well, it's not turning off the notification, only the fact that your computer automatically installs them...and then restarts your computer regardless of whether you're in the middle of something else. It's quite annoying, especially when one is in the middle of the game and must race, RACE to turn off the automatic update before the computer restarts, losing all progress.

Yes, this has happened to me before. Several times.

I was thinking about this today...I've lost so much over the last year and still I find things that make me happy, I still enjoy going out and doing everything.

I feel guilty because I should be mourning and I do mourn...but I try and go out and live life too.. I don't know just in a weird mood tonight.

With older versions of Windows, I got used to always manually checking for updates, because sometimes Microsoft would publish something that ruined things for some people. By waiting a couple of days for updates that weren't really important, I could see if there was a user uproar first. I could also select optional updates that weren't auto-installed more conveniently. Besides, it was my computer, and I didn't want anyone installing anything on it without my permission!

These days, it's not actually that much different. In Windows 7, I let it contact Microsoft for update details, so it gives me a little notice at the bottom when something's available, and I can review and install it if I like. Though most updates have the basic "This fixes a problem that allows remote unauthenticated users from gaining control of your system" description.

I have a couple of Windows XP Virtual Machines on the Windows 7 computer for doing things like running 16-bit programs and using older peripherals that don't have 64-bit Windows 7 drivers. They have to be patched separately. I have automatic updates totally disabled on those, because I don't run them every day, and when I do run them, I want them to work. I patch them when convenient.

My OpenSuSE Linux box also checks its repositories for updates daily, and I have it set to ask me before updating anything. So it's not just Microsoft I don't trust for blind installs. :)

K.K. Slider is a dog which performs in certain places in the Animal Crossing games.

Plus in some games (maybe all) you get a music player in your house that you can play K.K's songs on.

My roommate left a post-it on my door (I don't get why she doesn't send me a text, she's got unlimited texts, not unlimited post-its) that said we would go grocery shopping at 5pm today. So I went to the store and got a 2L bottle of coke for the caffeine, and I've been drinking it ever since so I'd be up (I was about to go to bed when I saw her post-it this morning). I finished it and I have over an hour to go (then of course the whole time of te shopping trip) and I'm having a very hard time not falling asleep.
It sucks. I don't even have anything I want to get from that store. She likes it better because it's cheaper, but we can only go there when her mom gives us a ride because she has a car, and she can only give us rides on Fridays apparently.
But the store also doesn't have vegetarian food much so whatever I might want from there (rice, legumes, pasta) we already have plenty of.
But if I don't go she probably won't appreciate. Oh well, maybe I'll buy sauces for my rice or something.

I had a massive headache the first day I got a 3ds, but now the 3d is just like staring at a television screen.
Same with the motion thing(why did nintendo add motion controls to something that must be kept still again)

You get used to it. At least I did.

I seem to hold it at the right distance for me at least.

I don't have the 3D all the way up, just maybe about two thrids, maybe a tad more.

Sometimes if you wear glasses, taking them off helps a little.
(And sometimes it makes it worse! XD Probably something to do with lighting and tiredness)

    Here's something hilarious.

While searching for jobs as part of an assisgnment I'm supposed to be doing, but probably won't finish, I found a job ad for actors.

They need two leading roles for a movie, (it seems to be a new small studio), and well here's the two roles:

    MALE 1 - 17 to 30
An intelligent, hot headed, young man. He is the kind of man to explain his theories and opinions in full, flowing monologue that can be at times, opinionated, stubborn and witty.
He begins the journey the driver and very sure of his place, with poise, dignity and authority. But like all friends forced to share confines at trying times, his temperament is soon augmented by sorrow and rage.

    MALE 2 - 17 to 30
Lazy, carefree and farcical in nature, he intends to be there for his best friend. But selfishly, he also wants to maintain his personal space and distance himself from the powerful emotions his friend is feeling. He foolishly masks his nervousness by attempting to be the comic relief which builds resentments in the car. He has a slapdash approach to life, a lackadaisical man who has to live a regimented life, he always loves to laugh.

^ THATS ME RIGHT THERE! MAN No.2

I'm so going to sue! Infringement! INFRINGEMENT!!!

Also, man no.1 is basically my best friend as well, WHICH MAKES IT EVEN MORE WEIRD!!!!

I'm so tempted to send them a message about it, even though i have never acted at all in my life, (too busy goofing around in drama lessons at school!), and I can't drive, (its a road trip-type movie which they need people who can drive for)

Now if I can rope my best friend in, then we will have to apply for a laugh at least! :D

We're dealing with a universe that hinges on the concept of a stereotypical ninja of Irish decent that is also a doctor, and whose first story involved beating up Ronald McDonald. The effect is intentional.

So... I've run into issues with my laptop (i.e the charger socket or internal circuitry has broken, so it only charges when the plug is in at certain angles) which is apparently quite costly to fix, as it involves disassembling the entire laptop, and possibly buying new parts, and soldering.

So, I was wondering, does anyone know of any netbook/tablets that are around/under £100? Specs don't bother me that much, but preferably with the ability to create documents readable by MS word, as it looks like my laptop may have to become a desktop PC.

You could probably find nice couple year old laptop on ebay somewhere. It won't be perfect, but it probably won't have the circuitry issues.
