Eh, all this talk about birthdays seems insignificant.

There was nothing special about being 1, 13 or 18 and there will be nothing signficant about my 21st birthday or any other future landmarks.

Then again, I haven't particularily benefitted from being older as it were.

I don't intend to drive, smoke, marry or even drink a lot.
(I do drink, but nothing hard. Besides I had the odd drink before I was 18 anyway)

We just grow and decay and eventually expire.

Its all about finding things to enjoy and then do it.
(Doing things one doesn't enjoy so that one can continue to do things that ones does enjoy)

Hmmm Deus Ex:Human Revolution just got 2 DLC packs today.
Explosive missions and some other pack that doesnt interest me(its 2 weapons and money, and the 2 weapons dont interest me, while the other pack is a mission, grenade launcher, and a autimatic lockpicker).
Well thank god im not at the part where this new mission takes place in my run and gun playthrough:D

Those two DLCs have been available to those who pre-ordered the game from the day it was released (which one depending on where you pre-ordered the game from). I personally got the Explosive Missions pack, the bonus mission was pretty decent but fairly short. It features a character from the original Deus Ex.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming DLC "The Missing Link" which will be set in a new location; a boat and will apparently take at least a few hours to complete. It's sounding like it might be similar to the opening section of Metal Gear Solid 2.

Why do so many people hate the new My Little Ponies? Yeah, I'm not a fan either but I don't exhibit hatred towards it or Adventure Time, Spongebob, or any other contemporary cartoon I don't watch or find appealing.

People hate it not because of anything to do with the actual show itself, but because of the way these 'bronies' talk about it on the Internet like it's the WORLD'S GREATEST THING EVER. This is annoying and thus people decide they hate the core reason for said annoyance.

I watched MLP because of said bronies and found it a rather enjoyable show (whilst pretending to be an eight year old girl--lucky my memory is pretty good) though not really worth the mountains of praise that are heaped upon it. It was refreshing though, most shows aimed at girls are inane and degrading. At least the characters here had some personality and development even while dealing with "girl problems" and such.

I watched the first episode on YouTube because someone here (you?) was talking about it's amazingness.

I absolutely agree that it's more intelligent then the average kids show, but yeah--I don't get how hordes of grown men can be so in love with it, either. The same goes with Adventure Time and Regular Show and whatever else. I've seen a couple, and sometimes they've made me chuckle, but is it something I'll seek out and froth at the mouth about on the Internet? Uh, no.

A lot of things are that way. Rabid fanbases either ruin things or make it socially unacceptable to like something. I don't hate football, but god do I hate football fans and the hype surrounding the NFL. And I love Kingdom Hearts, but cosplaying from it is a risky proposition because of the stigma generated by all the goddamn annoying Organization XIII cosplayers and Sora/Riku (or Roxas/Axel, for that matter) slash fans. Bronies are no different.

Ugh, I was at a convention a couple weeks ago, and you have no idea how tired I got of people in the halls shouting "What time is it?!" and "Buttscratcher!". One of the highlights of my weekend was when someone shouted back "It wasn't funny two years ago and it's not funny now!".

And on the bright side, I don't think I heard anybody playing The Game this year.

Oh, so the same reason why I don't like Final Fantasy 7. Fair enough then.

I love My Little Pony. I grew up in the 80s, it's mandatory. Not liking it would be akin to not liking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I hate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What started out as a simple parody comic ended up overblown in a movie and merchandising. Imagine if the same thing happened with Watchmen. Oh, right....

Not a big MLP fan, either, but I've never been an 8-year-old girl. I still read the TFT3K MLP takes, of course.

Gah, I feel your pain. I hate it when that happens. It's always bound to only occur when you've typed a lengthy post, it never seems to happen when you've just typed a couple of sentences. It's incredibly annoying.

And why so many people bash Halo, or Call of Duty, or World of Warcraft, or Madden, or whatever other video game that sells a bajillion copies and has loads of fans.

It's a dumb reason, but sometimes you can't help yourself. I'm not going to go out of my way to watch My Little Pony any time soon, but I have more important things in my life to do then hate on it because the Internet's in love with it, too.

You're kinda just hurting yourself by writing something off because people love it too much, (FF7 and Halo and WoW are lots of fun, don't like CoD but I tried it, never could get into a football game since Tecmo Bowl) but like I said, sometimes you just can't help it.

Yeah. When the rage died down, I went back to FF7 and looked at the story. Kind of convoluted, but I can see why so many people found it compelling.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened again with Kingdom Hearts, which upsets me seeing how I'm a Disney fan. It started around KH2's announcement and it hasn't shown signs of receding as of yet.

About the ponies thing, I don't really understand the over-glorifying of the plot either since it's just on a satisfactory and above-average level and not really anything too extraordinary, but I assume what draws people to it is its uses of color and style and the amount of whimsy it produces along with that and other things. (such as the very simple and once again also whimsical premise) The nostalgia for some people is a bonus, as already mentioned.

I can guarantee you right now had something even as small as the color design been poor, it wouldn't have drawn in people as much as it did, according to what I know from Color Psychology, but that's a long'un.

Plus the subtle twists on character archetypes (except Rainbow Dash who still appears to be a typical "tomboy" archetype without anything different IMO) makes it from becoming too dull to watch.

In short, besides the style and animation, the premise and plot being so simple is what makes it enjoyable. Sometimes people just want to watch colorful cute animals do cute and silly things without thinking about it much.

Uh, what I meant to say is that I have SO MUCH money that I can swim in it. Yes, I have so much money that I can bribe the laws of physics to displace gold coins in a dense concentration, parting on my approach like the red sea but on a far smaller scale(both actually and relatively). It's pretty cool.

Or maybe "Thank You" is more appropriate?

I'm a selfish person, I guess. It's totally cool, though, since this is an evolutionarily favored trait to have. And I do like being evolutionarily favored.
  • edited September 2011
lol. We're all here because our ancestors were selfish. Whether that trait enables us to survive into the future is another issue.

It seems to be working pretty well so far, but I totally see your point. From now on, I'll keep entirely mum about my gift giving and allow the recipient to receive five or six copies of the thing that they wished for on a public forum. In any case, it will stimulate the economy.

Currently, the lack of a PS3.:D Or any platform that KH supports, for that matter.

Other than that, it's the same gross fanaticism that I saw with FF7. The ironic thing is, it's mostly from the Disney side than from any other possible area. People want Sora and Riku walking around the park, a Kingdom Hearts parade, etc. I mean, they have Fantasmic! at both DL and WDW. Isn't that enough of a Disney-crossover for them? I guess not because Mickey doesn't use a Keyblade in either of those shows.

That said, I did like the effort WDI put into actually making Donald's and Goofy's default costumes from the game. It's a shame the only used it once, and it was for a Halloween event. Too bad the Sora costume was scary as hell.

Holy crap, those are awesome. I had heard about that but I was never able to find any pictures of the costumes. But yes, there is something very wrong with Sora's face.

How very terse and philosophical. Philosophical, of course, having the meaning here of "WTF?"

Eh, what do I care? Reprimand me all you want. I'm off to go help an old lady across the street in front of a news crew at seven. Because I'm just that kind of person. Later they'll be making a movie about me saving a cat from being stuck up a tree. A TV show may follow where I redesign houses for people that need them...no wait. That one already exists.

How am I reprimanding you XD I have one degree in theology. The point I was referring to was a quote from Jesus when he says "Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing," or something to that effect. In other words, people who give with the intention of getting back or for show need to reexamine themselves.

I understand the reference, thank you very much. And it most definitely was a reprimand you gave me. There really is no way to tell someone that they are selfish and it NOT be a reprimand.

Not that it really matters or is any of your business, but my entire intention with my statement was to make sure that nobody else was giving him the game as well. Because I've had that happen to me and especially with digital media, it's rather difficult to deal with extra copies of things as well as being socially awkward. My way of saying "Dibs," alright?

I don't even know why I have to explain myself for this. There used to be a time when I didn't have to censor everything I said on this forum without looking over my shoulder to see if I was following all the social etiquette dictated by a two thousand year old manuscript. Which probably wasn't written with the Internet, and the hassles that result, in mind.

I... What? I didn't think you were being selfish at all I thought you were being the exact opposite of selfish? Giving something away anonymously. I thought it was a good deed. That's the point of the left hand right hand thing because you're acting in a good spirit of giving.

It certainly didn't sound that way from my angle.

    "Even your generosity is selfish"?

    Sounds like a reprimand.

Still, if you didn't mean for me to take it that way, I guess I stand corrected in that respect. I thought you were handing me the other end of the stick. The one about reexamination. I guess this shows how much I view my online personality as being me in person.

    Glad you enjoy it.

The irony of this whole deal being over a biblical game is not lost on me, by the way.

Ok we had a major communication flaw. The "selfish" quote is from Heroes. I put it up in this thread without reading the previous page. I didn't realize you took that to address anything said on the previous page becaue I didn't read it. I went off the evolutionary comment and bantered from there but never meant that particular quote for you. My sincerest apologies.

Nah, it's cool. Stuff like this happens on the internet when you can't judge facial reactions and things like that. And I like jumping to conclusions because jumping is fun.

Though, I suppose I'll have to cancel that news crew that I wanted to film me helping the old lady across the street...hardly seems relevant now.
