It looks a little odd, due to the tile-based nature of the graphics, but free movement does allow for additional gameplay mechanics. Light platforming, being able to hide from enemies, and some Zelda-Ish stuff I can think off from the top of my head.
Timing puzzles, stealth, hazards, ooh lots of possibiłities! XD
(Though I wonder if that sort of stuff may be better in an isometric viewpoint...)
....
Heh, reading that book again certainly has jogged a little mental blockage! XD
Reading the basic tutorials to Construct 2.
(And my book on game design as I mentioned earlier)
Its quite a bit different to Game Maker, (well as I remember it back in version 8 and below! XD) but its oddly fascinating how it works.
I really need to make a habit of this. You know, spend and hour or two each night, learning and tinkering like I used to do when I was younger.
Maybe then I can dig up those ideas, and practically see how I can make them.
(Rather than theoretically imagining them as I normally do)
I think the key is music. I'm listening to some chiptunes at the moment on medium volume and its really chilling me out. Letting me focus.
If I can get into focus zone, then maybe I can just do, instead of talking about doing, dreaming of doing.
Heh, it all sounds stupidly obvious, buuut then again, sometimes its those basics we tend to miss in life. That we take for granted.
i think adventure games should have a "just tell me what to f*cking do i have been stuck for an hour and i don't want to have to search the internet" button
Half the forum just died a little inside.
(With a few exceptions. I've played a couple games that have had ridiculous puzzles in them like talking to people in a specific order with no indication to do so)
Most adventure games have hints within the game if you actually take the time to talk to everybody and use your brain... I mean, there are exceptions, but golly. ADHD gaming culture nowadays.

i have and i don't mean hints, i mean i want it to either do it for me or tell me exactly what i have to do to get to the next puzzle, i would avoid as much as i can (like guides) but sometimes you get stuck and it ruins the flow and going to talk to everybody and looking at everything just doesn't help because you are stuck

The BttF "hints" essentially told you what to do. And if you want the game to do shit for you, maybe it's a sign you don't want to play a game at all. Why not just watch a movie at that point? Or a Let's Play?

i don't think i used the hints in Bttf, but i have used hints in other adventure games and they are often just as frustrating as the puzzle you are stuck on and would say some thing like "you have to open the door to the bakers" and I am thinking "i know i have to open the door i just don't know how to do that you asshole hint" but then i would go on the internet to find out how to open it and it would tell me how to actually open the door (and the next puzzle if the website isn't good at hiding spoilers )
the thing about having an actual solve puzzle button on the game would mean that i didnt have to search through a guide to find where i am in the guide.
and no it is not a sign i want to watch a movie or a lets play it is a clear and obvious fact that i am stuck on one puzzle

might as well add an insta-win button in dark souls.
yes of course insta-win buttons in games is what i want
so am i the only person here (or the only person who will admit) that has ever used a guide?
I'll happily admit I've used a few, but that doesn't mean I want those games to be easier.
It would be nice to see more scalable difficulty options in games, but of course systems like that take A LOT of work.
I'd rather games be challenging than easy, at least then I have that choice to stick with it or cheat.

(Plus try to play Onimusha 2 without a guide.)
my idea is a built in guide, it wouldn't make the game easier (unless you used the button all the time, same as a guide)

If that's what you want, then let me direct you to Back To the Future the Game!

sometimes i can see extras not behaving how they should do
Yes, they're just called "lies" though.
Typing skills, apparently
I don't see proof for a mutant, though. It looks to me like standard wild type ninja turtle.
Hmmm... Interesting.

Well, I suppose we could get a DNA sample and test it. There's gotta be a mutation in there somewhere.
The real difficulty will be proving that it's only a teenager.
It's a mutant! Kill it! Eat it!
Consume its ancient glory for the cosmic alignment! Let the thousand years of darkness commence!
I'm so sorry.
For those of you who don't know what he's talking about: it's this.
Gorn
That's the first thing that popped into my head as well...

I didn’t think anybody would have gotten that!
I got it immediately as well.
OH NO! TIS COCKEREL! DRACULA GOT HIM!

Or limited time to invest into games.
You should play BttF.
You shouldn't play Myst.
