I would not bother with the series. It is a bad adventure game, this makes me VERY BORED. If the episodes were being sold one at a time rather than as a season pass, I would have stopped at, at furthest, the second episode due sheer boredom. The story, the franchise, these things cannot carry me through an experience I consider to be extremely boring.

It is kind of a chore to play. You get essentially one film's worth of plot, but stretched out with 5 hours of boring and poorly paced click-to-continue filler.

Would it be better if I said that, when given the option to play this game, I'd rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear or eat the rotten asshole of a roadkilled skunk and drown it with beer?

Now, That's an image I didn't need stuck in my mind ...

At least it's back on topic.

Seriously, guys, there's other threads for discussion on the game. Try and keep this one about the AVGN's shitty review.

I agree. you guys just started ranting about how shitty the game is, but this tread is about James's review of it.

Yeah...that review is something that needs to disappear.

I know that this review is just going to piss me off, especially considering that I hate the AVGN videos on a good day, but now I feel I have to watch it out of morbid curiosity.

Do so... and then write a review of the review!

It might help that James is NOT acting as the Angry Video Game Nerd. He's just being his usual nerdy self. In fact, when he tries to go AVGN and remember the LJN BTTF game, he can't keep a straight face.

Not as bad as I was led to believe it would be, but still shit.

True, that did help a lot.

And now I will review your review of a review. Ahem.

Short and sweet and to the point, Guru's review captures the essence of the AVGN review whilst also cautioning potential viewers from taking it's message too seriously.

Why would I take it is message too seriously?

Maybe if you were a non PC gamer watching a non PC gamer review? I dunno, something like that.

    Words words words!

I thought the video was decent. It conveys a pretty accurate sense of what the game is like, so I think it's pretty harmless.
What is an it is message, anyway?

That the game is kind of fun if you like BTTF and think most adventure games are too hard.

Wow... Did James really enjoy a game? This is new. :D

Not really, he also enjoyed the Ghostbusters game.

I believe this guy has been doing the angry video game review thing longer than Yahtzee has, although Yahtzee was a minor internet presence before he started doing Zero Punctuation

At any rate they tend to focus on totally different things for the most part, so they're kind of complementary forces

I've actually followed James Rolfe for a while ever since he's released his first review where his character hasn't even came into infancy at the time. Today, I still appreciate his work as a film maker that's created a respectable icon who can have fun with his work. Of course this wasn't the first time he reviews out of character, in fact he does movie reviews outside of the Angry Video Game Nerd character (see the Ghostbusters game review on X-Box 360) as well as basic movie reviews (like yours truly, Back to the Future).

In this one, it's no different. It's a man who is a big fan of Back to the Future along with a guy who happened to grow up playing a lot of PC games. Yeah he was off when he mentioned Sam and Max being the first, but keeping in mind that he was thinking on top of his head and made clear that he 'thinks' as in unsure, but can you really get him for that? That's like going after a guy because he thought he was drinking a lemon-lime drink when he didn't know it was lemon. That aside, I don't see any problems with this, they both wanted to talk about the game straight from themselves (without being in character, so to say the "AVGN reviews..." is pretty off as the topic should have said "James Rolfe reviews..." but not to contradict myself on a simple mistake) and they did what they wanted to do. Talk about the game, explain what they liked about it, why they liked it, and had fun with it. What is there to complain about over a simple review of a game they happen to enjoy? Agree or disagree, sure, but by no means is there much of a reason to complain about the lack of the 'AVGN' character the people were expecting based on the title (again, the mistake by the poster) since he was reviewing out of character.

I actually enjoyed this video... I noticed all the errors immediately, like most people here probably did, but it doesn't bother me all that much when people get things wrong from time to time :p

I think the reason I liked it despite the flaws is probably that I enjoy seeing people introduced to adventure games.
So it was fun watching James reactions to the game.

Though I'm not him, I personally feel that to produce a game like this for Back to the Future is to completely disrespect the franchise. The franchise is worth a GOOD game, and to rush out a lacking, crappy, barely interactive mess is FAR less than the franchise is worth.

ok im just sayin i like bttf game imjust asking you can u honestly conpare back to the future and back to the future part 1 and back to the future part 2 & 3 by LJN and say they r better then bttf the game or conplain and this is not just to u rather dashing but everyone who r crying about not enough hard puzzles and a few glitchs OR WOULD U RATHER HAVE THIS!!!! A PERSON WHOS DOES NOT LOOK MARTY AND DOES NOT HAVE ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH BTFF AND SOME GAME WHICH HAS TO SAY BTTF DOWN IN THE BOTTOM AND HAS ALMOST NO BTTF MUSIC OR A GAME WITH GREAT STORY GOOD GRAPHICS AND HAS LOADS TO DO WITH BTTF SO MUCH THAT ITS LIKE A BTTF 4 AND HAS MUSIC FROM BTTF PLUS ONE OF THE BEST BTTF VILLANS SO THINK ABOUT ALL OF THIS EVERYONE

I hope you're being sarcastic. I can see no signs of a brain activity in that post just so that I may label as "throwing up".

I can't believe I'm saying this: but I agree with you, Falanca.

I feel like I need a shower, now.

Though I must say, I'm glad you put on such a "reminiscent of nostalgic" characterization of yourself when you post. If we were in a sitcom, everything you say would feel right.

Not to mention, noone would watch it.

I see. Can I be a main character AND a supporting character? Played by five actors at once?

What the hell do the LJN games have to do with the current one?

Yes, the new game is better then the NES game.

But that's like saying "this food tastes better then an elephant turd, so it must be delicious."

Also, dude, seriously, learn to type at at least at an 8th grade level. Thanks.

    A. the reason theres mistakes is that theres something wrong with the fourms and when i tried to delete them it kept deleteing other words so i could not go back and delete mistakes.

    B. yes but it just pisses me off about people are crying about aww theres not enough hard puzzles now i kinda agree with this because telltale should have put a setting like monkey island 2 and curse of monkey island where theres a hard and easy mode but the amount of people that crys about the simplest of things like maybe one or two glitchs and im not countin the ep 5 glitchs because theres a patch for it now but wow so theres a box around marty which is gone in ep 5 wow not enough hard puzzles i mean if ur just like this ur kinda only seeing the bad in this game i mean look at the good in this game theres loads of bttf music a good story a good villian and more!

Abubuh...what? OK, what to say here...

    1. The AVGN has been around a lot longer than Yahtzee.

    2. While Yahtzee reviews whatever game's been released recently and trashes the hell out it (whether it deserves it or not), the Nerd sticks to older games (although this video doesn't have him in character as the AVGN, it's just James Rolfe as himself). Really, really bad older games for the most part. Like movie-based NES stuff. And while the AVGN mostly does just insult the games, he does try to be fair and say something positive when appropriate. His Virtual Boy review is a good example of this. He admits that for how terrible the system is, most of the games themselves are decent. There's just no reason they had to be on the Virtual Boy.

About the only thing the AVGN and Yahtzee really have in common is lots and lots of swearing.
  • edited July 2011
Right. They don't even have being funny in common, since Rolfe's ideas about comedy are....let's be nice and call them "simple".
  • edited July 2011
Comparing Rolfe and Yahtzee is like a cave painting with the Bayeux Tapestry hanging beside it.
