I saved Doug, First of all he is a IT guy like myself, and it could be usefull later on, second of all Carley had a gun, she should be able to fend for herself.
Yes females are great company under the sheets, but when it comes down to a survival situation its all about what they bring to the table. Everyone has to have a skill set or provide something to the group. She cant do anything besides shoot? I mean she can shoot a handgun, alright I can teach clementine to shoot too...now what? I think it would be more of a drag to have her around later on, plus she had zero mechanical ability or common sense. Ill choose Doug every time. Now with that being said, If I had the resources or the time to save both I would just because more people and eyes are always a good thing. But ill be damned if I save the girl only to have her raped or bartered away later on. The bullets will eventually be gone and I need someone that's a thinker. Adapt and overcome! With her, your choices are limited and there's a lot of fail sauce there. With Doug at least hes a thinker, hes probably not going to do a lot to get himself into unnecessary danger, and at that moment when you are out of options and you have a little meeting and say "Im fresh out of ideas, does any one have one?' He will probably come up with a hail-mary that will work. Anyways...now the other situation with that prick with the heart condition and his daughter i would have left them both and moved on. He cant bring shit but drama, and shes too protective of him. Beat his ass or say whatever and move on.
I saved Carley cause I'm handy with tech, so hopefully my own knowledge helps with a tech related puzzle and Carley's gun skills helps instead.
I thought about my tech abilities too. Then I realized it is not really me in the game, it's Lee! (chalk one up for total game immersion!) Lee may not have the tech savvy needed. Of course, that does not mean Doug will either.
She has a pistol. Not just because of that though.. If she dies, the pistol would be lost because the chances are Lee wouldn't be able to pick it up in time when he's escaping.
She's also a pretty good aim, unlike doug who probably isn't useful in combat.
Since she's been with Lee on the outing to save Glen, she probably picked up on some fighting techniques as well.
Carley was closer to Lee, since she was inside the store. Saving Doug was risky, as he was being pulled outside by several zombies.. And it would have been risky to run over to the exit even if i managed to save him, since there's already zombies inside the store.
We also don't know the circumstances that were involved in order for Doug to save Carley. He might have just saved her simply because she's a girl.
Also, Carley seems to be less likely to get into a struggle unlike Doug. Carley is slim and flexible, Doug is chubby and slow.
Doug seems more likely to make bad decisions as well. He offered to take Lee outside.. which in itself is dangerous. Then he shouted at lee asking if he was done, which almost attracted zombie attention.
Carley also probably knows her way around the city more than Doug, who spends his time in his basement mostly. And like someone else said, the lights went out. Who knows how much electricity would be left working, and even then, how much use he would actually be with electronics.
Also, she's a reporter. As we all know from previous games *cough dead rising 2 cough* reporters are ALWAYS good at lockpicking and getting into things.

So... uh... you thought all that in the 2 seconds decision time we were given to make that choice? I'm impressed
Not one person said I saved Carley because she saved me? She was the one who let Lee into the store despite Lily ordering her to keep the door shut. She also shot the walker Lee was fending off after he saved Clem. Lee owes her.
Phew...some kind of a descision that was for sure! It all happened so fast and I really tried to sum up all of the given within those 2-3 seconds. And yeah I am one of those who saved Carley in my first playthrough. Not because she's a chick or w/e blabla at all.
So why did I save her and not him? Hm..well as you all know there were only 2-3 seconds to think about and all I COULD think of was that SHE was the one who actually saved our bums back in the street there, she really knows how to handle a weapon and in times of zombies lurking around my backyard I'd rather go with a good shot than a technics talanted dude.
Thinking of it again it might was a mistake as we don't know if we would ever stumble into technical problems at some point of the game but then again I (Lee) can at least fix a radio, I think that should do it *lol* Seriously, Doug was nice, helpful and one hell of a guy but uh yeah...if I was in that situation erm I mean I probly can't get rid of a zombie (in the terms of killing) with an universal remote....
But I have to admit right after my descision I was kinda facepalming because suddenly I was like: "Damn...what if Car could have saved herself by using her gun as a melee weapon?!" But uh...descision made, now deal with it I guess...amazing how TT got me into this game like I it was me being Lee *shrug*
Also back there at Hershel's I made a descision my friend - who watched me playing - was yelling at me so much but thankfully it turned out the way I was thinking it COULD might *phew*
I saved you, Doug, I was guilt trapped by the "You're a really great guy" line... and for the shirt, I just like seeing it, plus you remind me of myself, I couldn't let you die! Also, I figured Carley might be able to fight off the one holding her leg, kick it with the other, y'know.
Uh well if so it sure forces me to do another playthrough (would've gone for it anyways ofc!) to save him. He might be able to punch a zombie or two with that universal remote or some other gadget he might invents
I am soo sorry Doug I'll come to rescue you right now! *starts the game again* Shame on me I saved the gunwielding fury *cough*
Queue torrents of guilt. You know what? I still saved Carly! What are you gonna do about it Doug? You're just zombie chow now! I'm going to use your death to romance Carly while i'm at it!
I did have a thought though. I bet the gun was Doug's. He saved Carly and gave it to her because he believed she'd need it more than he would. Whose mind did I just blow? Man up and admit it!
Saved Carly, sure Doug got the TV's turned on from across the street, but did he tune in HBO?, NO!, what a tard... Almost got me killed by yelling out to the zombies too, pretty sure that didn't help. So he's an IT guy, so was I, so I know firsthand how totally useless that would be in a Zombie-Pocalypse. What, we need him to set up a website for us? He memorized all the TV codes? what a geekzilla!. Guns/brawn before brains in the Z-P, everytime. Like Doug can be sent out to the zombie camp to consult on their computer issues, yeah, like they would even pay their bill. If I had kept Doug, he would be my first pick to use as a human shield.
And totally agree with the electrician - without power, and electrician is pretty much useless - backup generators you say?, those require a mechanic much more then an electrician.
So the list of who to save in order would be: 1-Guns/Brawn (fighters), 2-Mechanic (need transportation to get away), 3-Scrounger (for getting supplies - someone quick), 4-Women (or Male-your pick) and Children with no discernable useful qualities (save the species contingency), 5-my own A$$, 6-Pets/Livestock, 7-SexDoll for when #4 won't put out, 8-IT Guy. Cold you say, well get over it...

Amusing that people wanna save him now they find out he is a real person.
I had all intentions of saving Doug.. in round 2.. hehe

Haha ye of course man, I was just some kind of acting there. As I was going to plan on a second, third xx? playthrough anyways I could live rather well with my first made descision to save Car but ye thanks for the possibility to do another playthrough to see other options, dialogues (and I wanna see ALL of them no matter what) etc...hell if I could I would've saved everyone ofc
fat dude or the chick? That's a no brainer. When I'm watching a zombie movie I am always hoping that the chick makes it out alive haha. The thing is Carly
knew I was a killer, after I told her the truth about the photo
but thought it would give me browny points if I saved her, and she would keep my secret.
Sorry tobacco, no hard feelings eh? I will save you next time I promise hehe.
I didn't really THINK about it, I just FELT that I had to save Doug. I don't know why, but probably I felt Doug is a character who deserves the spotlight. The reporter already got the spotlight, she was resourceful, she could handle a gun... yeah, I know, I guess I'm a bit naive in these things, but I like when an underdog gets a chance to show his/her worth.
I saved Doug, I mean he was being grabbed from behind and the walker had both hands on him, while Carly was all barely being grabbed by her foot. Doug seemed to be in more immediate danger and she still had the gun. When I saw later that she was out of ammo I was like, crap, ah well.
Dumbass Doug yelled across the street just TRYIN' to get the walkers to see Lee. Sheesh
"Hey! Got the keys yet?!" Really??!
If you listened to Doug, he screamed at Lee BECAUSE the Walkers were coming. He did however alert the rest of the zombies, but also Lee to get a move on because they were already starting to take notice.
EDIT:Ok he did yell at Lee once before that, but the walkers never noticed strangely enough.
Saving Doug this go around. Carley's admitted the moment she thinks you're hurting the group she's going to turn on you and/or expose you. That means when Larry causes more drama and everyone is up in arms about who you are, she'll side with them.

I would do so in real life too.
Let's see, save a hot chick or some fat dude.
Save the chick, get some later as a reward.
Save the fat dude, and my jimmy doesn't get some loving.
I got to think about my dick's needs in real life as well. Just saying.
Not if you are into that kind of guys you know

A sense of humor. Unlike, y'know, just about everybody else in the game.

Hey I saved you!
LOL yeah I suppose so. Then again Doug wasn't much better putting his back in front of an open window.
"Hey! Got the keys yet?!" Really??!

He might have said, "I'm thinkin' Doug is not real good around zombies," but he certainly said that last bit.
This game’s really got inside my head...
