The Cow

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
At the start in the forest with Mark, you talk about Larry, and Mark says "I wouldn't want to be trapped in a room with him" Referencing that you get stuck in a room with him later

And the second bit, near the end of episode 2, you just leave the pregnant cow to the zombies, couldnt we have used it for milk? and it was pregnant aswell! we just gave up 2 cows... :(

    Yeah, yeah!

Seriously, Maybelle even has her own character page in the wiki, which I found awfully cute. They had to leave in a hurry, it's true, but leaving the cows behind (with a vet in their group!), that might have been a bit stupid.

Awww dats cute. I want a animal in the group.

Maybelle was in no condition to move, but it's too bad they didn't at least shut the barn so she had some chance. (Well except the brother that died in the barn, but maybe the pitchfork will keep him stationary)

I think everyone was psychologically motivated to get the heck off the farm because of everything that had happened, even though it might have made more sense to just pour more gas in the generator and deal with a few zombies that were already in the perimeter.

Even if they didn't want to stay and clean up all the blood and guts everywhere, securing the farm would have allowed them to scavenge ammo and any non-human food items. Though I guess that doesn't really matter what with the Deus ex Hatchbackia.

I wish they could have taken the cow--(and calf?) to the hotel! I mean..I dont know how that would work for a length of time but the walkers are just going to eat them. At least they would have milk...and steak

I guess hay wouldnt last..no freezer for meat either...poor cow
  • edited June 2012
it was infected and hence tainted anyway...
  • edited June 2012
And the Cow was sick, it couldn't stand up. There was no way they could've taken it without it being eaten by zombies.

    Animals turn when they die?
  • edited June 2012
    Pretty sure they dont.
  • edited June 2012
they should have taken the generator, any remaining gas, and then jumped in the car and drove off.

or atleast go back the next day and try salvage stuff from the farm before the bandits do.

possibly take all the cable from the fence and make there own electric fence wherever they want

Also, he says that if he hadn't left his Airforce and joined your group he would've been food...

Yeah in walking dead if you said "I wish I was covered in beautiful women" you'd fall to your death in a pile of Beauty Queen Walkers

What about Mark at the end? How did he get back upstairs? I'd assume that he was dragged back up there, but since the cat was out of the bag, you'd figure that they'd take him to the barn.

That confused me initially, too. When he wasn't in the meat locker I just assumed he'd died of blood loss or the brothers had killed him after the group discovered their secret. Now I figure they dragged him back up to the bedroom to get him out of the way, likely planning to eat the rest of him later. After all, they'd already gone to a lot of trouble to keep him alive for, ugh, harvesting. In all the commotion he must've died, come back as a zombie and escaped the room again.

Unless I misunderstood everything that was happening, didn't they have him hooked up to a morphine drip or something similar upstairs to keep his meat fresh. That's why I figured they took him back upstairs.

Yeah the cow was pregnant and expecting to have a baby at that night according to Katjaa. Didn't seem very mobile at the time heh.

Animals donot come back they just get killed from the infection according to the wiki, and the fact that you never see like a zombie dog.
  • edited June 2012
In TWD universe the infection only affects humans, not animals.
  • edited June 2012
They said the cow was just pregnant, not sick.

Hehe, good post wminscoe7 - my 1st thought as we left the farm was 'noooo, don't leave the cow!' :D

It wasn't sick, it was pregnant. If you recall Katja said that she would probably have the calf that night...

    Fix'd

I dont think the cow would fix in the RV when the group decides to take off (Lilly and Kenny were both by the road, so that's what will probably happen), and no one has any butcher experience so the RV will just turn in to one of those microwave curry meals, entrails everywhere and the occational lump (people in the RV).

Well I guess the walkes will be dining on beef tonight. And veal...

Yes I'm going to hell for that one -.-

Because of my inability to merge the words "Clementine" and "mooh", I can not contribute a good pun about the calf at this time.

    Ahhhhhh... maybe.

The Calf actually got up and closed the barn door and will have a series of adventures.

Fun Fact those shots in episode 1 that drew zombies from the pharmacy and clems house were from maybelle

This, I was really confused by the cow. I figured they mistook pregnancy for sickness. But later you can examine the cow and it appears really skinny. We know there is tons of hay outside.

So was the cow sick or was all the food going to the calf since they didn't know it was pregnant.

On a related note, Telltale finally created a new cow model. The old "Bone" model really served them well all those years, and I'm a little sad to see it replaced. :(

Is the 'Bone' model the model we see in Sam & Max? Where else is the Bone model seen? /curious

Yeah, that's the one I mean. It originated in The Great Cow Race and then was used throughout all three seasons of Sam and Max. I can't remember if it appears in Monkey Island or Back to the Future. Maybe not. Still, they got a lot of use out of it. I guess you could say they milked it for all it was worth.

I'm guessing they didn't give a shit about the cow and didn't feed it much (if anything at all) because they were too busy prepping their "soylent greens" to care about one measly cow. The cow was just a ploy to get Katja and the gang to stick around long enough for "dinner." Oh, those crazy hillbillies. I was definitely imagining banjo music in my head during the entire episode haha.
