Clem is a good character, but certainly not the best in the video game industry. Not even top 20 tbh. Clem was really good in S1, why? Because our goal (As Lee) was to protect an adorable little kid named Clementine, doing so Lee grows a tight bond with Clem. Lee was such a well written character that so many players loved, and the fact that he cared for Clem so much, made us care for her as much(And vise versa). Who doesn't like a father daughter type bond? I think most people really liked her most when we were playing as Lee in S1 rather than playing as her in S2. Clem's character in season 2 was a llittle boring, she had some cool one liners and some epic speeches with Kenny at the end of the game but other than that idk... I wasn't intrigued playing as her.
While I'd love to agree, I'll have to go with others on the forum here saying that Lee was the more strongly written character. I think part of the issue with playing Clem in S2 is that her character often shifted to fit the situation. While I loved her growing survival instinct and competency, there was a surprising lack of character development I would've wanted to see from it. That being said, I actually think Kenny was the star of S2 for that reason. His character progression, though sometimes all over the place, ultimately grew in a really compelling way.
As for a character written a bit better than Clem but in a similar role, I'd have to give that to Ellie from Last of Us, where I actually felt she was a stronger built character than Joel.
I was thinking of comparing them so since you brought it up, I have to agree. Ellie was better written and has a whole lot of character with her unique personality. She did extremely well as playable/main character. Clem is just not interesting and entertaining enough to be a top video game character imo.
I'm a much bigger fan of 'TWD' than I'am of 'Last of Us' btw people.
