How Clem CAN work as the Season 3 protagonist

  • I dont know how to explain this but I think this is a coming of age story. In the first season you (the player) care about a helpless child. You made the tough decisions. In season 2 you play as Clem but still... Lee (the player) is still there and does the actions. Your influence will always be there. So from that point Im thinking that Clem in Season 3 is the PC but and thats the tricky part... TT could make smth completely new... Like if you go for an answer your shaped Clem doesnt like she argues with the player. There are games where this has been done before.
Like Silent Hill 3 i think where the PC talks to you and questions you.
TT could make smth groundbreaking here!

I see what you're saying, but I have to disagree with you on one major point you made, as well as some elements from Season 2.

1: "Jumping ahead to Clementine as an adult for Season 3."

To have the game jump ahead 10 or more years, would leave the player wondering what happened during those "missing years."
When telltale jumped ahead 2 years for Season 2, it didn't leave a lot of room for wondering what was happening during that time.
Plus, for players who stayed with Kenny at the end, like I did, if Season 3 started and say Kenny wasn't there, we'd be left with wondering what exactly happened to him?
So if you ask me, it's WAY to big a time jump.

2: Having the other characters always turning to Clementine for advice.

Clementine is only eleven years old.
To have adult characters turning to her for advice on what to do, or turning to her with their problems, seems kinda far-fetched.
At that age, no child really has the maturity to completely understand the depth of those things.
Like when Kenny told Clementine about his feelings on losing his family and now Sarita, if the player kept silent, Kenny will apologize and; saying she's just a kid, and that it's not fair to unburden himself to her about all that.

When Kenny did that with Lee, who was 37 yrs old, it seemed realistic.
Plus Lee had not only lost his whole family, but he also knew what what it's like to be a husband, to have a wife; and what it's like to lose her, which the greatest loss a man can endure.
Lee had the age, maturity, and experience to understand where Kenny was coming from.
Minus the experience of ACTUALLY being a father.
And knowing the pain of losing one's child.

3: The physical power Clementine had this season.

Clementine kicked in a door, with one kick.
Cut Sarita's arm off in two swings.
    As well as other things.
Those kind of feats, just are not possible for an 11 year old.
Those are more of the things you expect to see an adult character to be able to do.

4: Suffering a gunshot wound, and yet walking around like it's nothing.

Ok, first off, a gunshot wound in the shoulder, is gonna lay someone up for a spell.
Or ANY gunshot wound for that matter.
NOBODY, doesn't matter how tough they are, is gonna be able to just walk around and act like all they've got is a paprecut.
Let alone an 11 year old kid!
If you noticed Kenny when he got shot in season 1, It visibly was affecting him.
Clementine just walked around like it was pretty much nothing.

So anyway, I to would like to see Clementine's story continue, but I only see that working in one of two ways.

1: Have Kenny become the next PC character in season 3.

Which not a bad idea, considering how long we've known him, how well, and thus how relatable he is.
Unlike Christa, who was not there from day one, so she's not as relatable.
( Just going along with your idea of going with a character who's been their since day one. And also, I know I would personally love to play as Kenny.)

Plus it would be a VERY welcomed change to have a determinate character survive after you save them.
    Even if it's just one!
As constantly killing off every determinate character after you've saved them, does get old and quite frankly boring, after it's been done so many times before.
It's almost like: "Why bother saving them in the first place, when you know they're just going to end up dead in the next episode or two?"

Hopefully, Kenny can be the exception to that rule.
Even if he's the only determinate character who ends up being so, I'd personally be happy.
And I know others, other Kenny fans, would be as well!

2: As a new character, having him stumble up upon Clementine and Kenny as they're being besieged by walkers, with Kenny either getting killed; ( God forbid), or not getting killed, and then either convincing Clementine to go with you, or convincing her and Kenny to allow you to join them.

And you get introduced to his pre-apocalyptic life in dream sequences or flashbacks.

  • Theres plenty of possibilities to make Clementine beeing alone in Season 3. One or two Season 2 dlcs or a podcast. My point is that in Season 1 and 2 Clementines actions were the ones of the players. And in Season 3 it is too but @ the same time it isnt because Clem is growing up. And growing up means getting a mind of your own so to speak. Clem doesnt have to be 20 for that. Maybe 12 or 13. Yeah, sure people turn on her for advise although she is a just a child. But she made it through the outbreak when people like Sarah hid in a cabin. Carver was right, she has seen a lot for a child and thats why she is capable of giving advise. Either way... Season 3 must be about Clem!

  • I want Clementine for season 3 too. Despite what some people may say, it's fun playing as her and it gives us the opportunity to view this world with a new perspective. Playing as a child in a horrible world like this isn't something you'll find in other games. I loved being part of her evolution, after meeting her and protecting her in season one, we all got to raise her in season two.

Even if she's no longer the playable character she should still appear in season three. Even the main theme of the game in the menu in both seasons is Clem's theme. I can't imagine having to start all over with brand new characters and a brand new story after all that happened. Yes, you have to let go of the characters you love at some point but not so soon when there are so many different possibilities left to explore with her story.
