Season 1 vs. Season 2. Which one is better and why.

This is just an opinion thread on which of the two seasons are better than the other with evidence why that is better.

Which is Superior?

  • I would personally say season 1 because the action sequences seemed more natural like the first zombie Lee killed and Shooting gallery in Long Road Ahead.
I don't like season 2's action sequences because you're an 11 year old girl that's struggling for life there and I just simply have to mash one button and then press another one? The only good action scenes were the Dog and Shed Walker one besides that it is just bullshit button mashing the entire game's action taking place.

    1. The survivors of Season 2 are hardly given enough time to develop their Character they are generally just staying in the background and never truly discuss a severe event that has taken place, plus before their character development is flourished, they always die too quickly. For instance in "Long Road Ahead" when Duck was bitten there was tons of time for everybody to react to his demise that was to come and everybody talks to Lee about it but go to Amid the Ruins... Sarah's death under balcony. After she gets devoured by walkers and the baby was born, nobody gave a shit and realized that they lost a member of their group. Nick's death in A House Divided (Determinant) is also stupid because after Carlos asks where he is, Nobody else will acknowledge this after it happened hell Nick is only mentioned by Luke in No Going Back once and not in any other episodes which shows the lack of emotion they had for Nick. Also tell me something you remember Sarita doing she doesn't develop her character and she had the least amount of screen time to herself, Sarita was nothing more than a plot device for Kenny to develop his inner anger from LRA to NTL.

That's why I think season 1 is better than season 2.

I like season 2 better because of 3 things.

    1. Clementine

    2. No Going Back

    3. Way more interesting characters then in season 1 (even if some of them didn't last very long RIP PETE 3/4/14 NEVER FORGET)

  • Did you know that Flimsii actually made a review video of Season 2?

  • I will just repost what I wrote up in another thread about this.

It's common to think the original was better than the game that just came next.

In my opinion I thought season 1 did a poor job with all the comic characters they tried to add in. What a coinkidink that your small band of survivors runs into Glenn, Herschel's family, and Lilly (thank goodness Kirkman put an end to that and gave Lilly a different backstory). I think Glenn should have been the only comic character they included. It really seemed to me that they just included all those characters as a marketing ploy to hopefully get more people to buy the game. In my opinion once they got to the train and all the comic characters were out of the picture season 1 really started picking up (until then it just seemed like they were rehashing characters and/or events from the tv show and/or comics).

Season 2 in my opinion just flowed a lot better. It was a 100% Telltale original concept and they used all their own characters. I think the dialogue was a tad better and the scenes had a little more emotion as well.

I hate these comparing threads. I truly do.

I love both Seasons, end of story.

  • Good for you.

  • Too bad part 2 of the review isn't out yet.

  • I liked them both, but S1 I think was better.

  • Season 1 most definitely. Despite being a simple point and click it had way more things you could do. The Long term consequences, real fleshed out characters, a multiple amount of out comes for each situation, choices that could completely change not only Lee but the other characters. Season 2 didn't have any of this and goes down as one of the most disappointing game sequels. Definitely not to say that its bad it was good overall and had it's moments but I felt like it was limited and the story was no longer tailored to how I played. I can only hope Season 3 won't be the same

  • Of course, it's all subjective. But my personal favorite is Season 1? Why? Well, firstly it was the very first Walking Dead game I played. I enjoyed the Lee/Clementine relationship and how Lee took it upon himself to take care of her. I enjoyed that she wasn't completely useless (Ashley RE4) and she was intelligent at such a young age while still holding the (diminishing) innocence of being a child.

Our choices had a much larger impact on the story narrative and I became immersed in its world because I felt like I was a huge part of it. I could change things. I could choose who to feed. I could choose to save Carley or Doug. I could choose whether or not to help save Larry, the world's largest jerk. I could choose to kill Duck myself or let Kenny do it. I could choose to save Ben, the world's largest screw-up or let him fall to his death. I could choose to let Lee turn or mercy kill him. Even though the story was already set in stone, I felt like I was influencing things. What people thought of me and what I thought of them.

Season 2 for me was very distant feeling as Clementine seemed like an empty shell for the most part. It's kinda understandable seeing as she lost everyone she ever cared about, but she has a distinct lack of emotion. Clementine feels like a completely different person than the little girl that we fought so hard to keep alive in Season 1. It shocked me that she could be so cynical, cold, bitter and "badass" (cringe). That's just not who Clementine is to me. She's a caring, kind girl who does her best to to help people who need help, not shrug off the "weak" ones. Also no matter what we did, others had a very defined view of who Clementine was and we couldn't change how they thought of us.

  • I think it was up to the player to choose whether Clementine was still the same moral compass of the group or cynical and emotionless. My Clementine was good and followed her principles and moral standards.

  • I actually thought they did a real good job with the development of Clementine through the series thus far. The first game takes place at the very beginning of the outbreak so it is only natural for her to have the same personality she had before everything happened. The second game takes place 2+ years later so it is completely natural for Clementine to be a completely different person than she was in the first game. If she had anything close to the same type of personality she had in the first game after two years of surviving in the apocalypse where she was dealing with death and starvation on virtually a daily basis I would think that would be horrible character development.

The only thing about her character in season 2 that I didn't so much like was that I thought all the other characters were looking to an eleven year old girl for answers or goal accomplishment just a little too often. I get why they did that because she was the playable character but I think they went a little overboard on that aspect at times.

But I liked the fact that she lost almost all her personality from season 1 and was an entirely different person for the most part.

  • I played her like a kid who had been living in an apocalypse for two years would most likely act but I have a feeling that no matter what you chose she would still be rather emotionless.

  • I believe Season 1 was better, in my opinion. The reason being that it seemed more well written and immersive. There was character development between Lee, Clementine, and Kenny that Season 2 couldn't recapture at all. And in Season 1, the determinant characters were treated with better writing. Also, dialog choices seemed to affect everyone's personalities more too, while most of the different choices in Season 2 had no greater impact on the characters/story later on.

  • Unlike Season 2, Season 1 didn't develop main characters only.

  • Season 2.

    • Firstly, the story progresses like how I can keep up with. It's fast-paced and made me keep on my feet!

    • Secondly, choices that mattered more.

    • Thirdly, Kenny's determinant goodbye.

  • I'd say season 2 is better because I like my stories disjointed and unfocused.

I enjoy an uninteresting character to be flagrantly handled with upmost care while every other character is shamelessly killed off simply to make way for a forced narrative to favor Kenn- urr, I mean said uninteresting character.

I like for the final conflict to have little build up and possess no inner-conflict, just make two unlikable characters try to kill each other and give off no consequence at all for it.

I really like babies to be shoved in a narrative just as a cheap way to get the audience to want to care for it's safety. Not at all annoying, like babies.

I need my stories to give me little interaction beyond an obtuse sentiment for all the other useless characters to marvel over. Don't give my agency any real agency.

Boy, I also love for a story to use "crock value" and think it's clever "shock value."

And, finally. I love how the narrative is so shallow and bland. Deep and colorful narratives are for pussies.

  • For me Season One incredibly amazing, and the Season Two is even better =)

I look forward to Season Three, because it will be even better and amazing for the previous 2 seasons, I have no doubt ;)

  • I enjoyed season 2 more. If only because season 1 lagged so much the story was ruined for me.

  • I agree. I haven't had the pleasure of playing any of them, but I've watched both seasons multiple times. I think season 2 is strongest re Carver (episodes 2 and 3 are incredible). The characters are more interesting (Jane, Kenny, Carver, Luke, Clem ) even Rebecca and Bonnie are pretty good. In season 1, there's episode 2 and 4 but a lot of the characters are namby-pamby besides Lee, Lily, and Kenny.
