Kenny gets angrier every episode of Season 2

This isn't a Kenny hate thread, people so don't misinterpret this thread. But what this thread shows is how Kenny progressively grew angrier every episode so lets rewind the tape, shall we?

Episode 2- Kenny is super duper excited to see Clementine and he is seen starting nice conversations with the cabin group despite a little tension with him and 2 others Cough Cough, Nick and Luke but the only other times he barely showed any anger in the episode besides telling Sarita that he's got the box or that one time when he was sniping at Carver. Kenny was practically as passive as an Npc villager from Minecraft with steam coming out of his head if you hit him.

Episode 3- Kenny shows a giant leap of anger and rage here, first he insults the cabin group by saying that they're getting a little ride home, calls Nick a boy like he's a child and he does this with an angry face next he thinks of impetuous plans in which would get the entire group killed Kenny specifically says "I'm gonna punch the first son of a bitch I see, then I'll take his gun and shoot the next son of a bitch I see!" he did this with a harsh tone, Kenny also looks at Clementine and says that Carver is a crazy fuck with his eyes up and his teeth bared. After Reggie introduced himself Kenny said fuck that guy to Clementine despite Reggie's kind yet awkward attitude. Next he pinned Mike to a wall and yelled at him just for Mike possibly encouraging Kenny to help out. Finally at the episode's end when Kenny was one eyed, he brutally beats Carver to death with a Crowbar 17 times in a row when Carver was dead on the second blow. Whereas Kenny could have just shot him in the head or let the walkers eat Carver.

Episode 4- Kenny is starting to develop into a ball of rage in this episode, it is first seen if you axe Sarita in the arm he shouts and angrily blames Clementine for causing Sarita to suffer and if you decided to Axe Sarita Kenny will say "What the FUCK DID YOU JUST DO?" With his one good eye squinted with rage towards Clementine he then calls her a "Stupid Fuckin' Kid!" and he leaves with Mike he says "This is on your head Clementine!"
When he is seen by the statue he blames Clementine for Sarita's death or her coming death and is seen to be irrational even if you pick the nice choices. He also says that Clementine gets people killed and if she says sorry it'll magically go away with a rant in tone, he then shouts that's not how it WORKS! If you axed Sarita in the head/Left her to reanimate then Kenny will say "Now just leave me the Fuck alone" to Clementine. Later, when Luke is on watch and Kenny finds out that he was fooling around with Jane he says "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TWO DOING UP HERE?!" He then calls Luke a "Reckless Fuckin' Moron." Finally he viciously argues with Luke after the baby is born and when to leave the memorial of the civil war, he also continues this bickering when the group is on the move and he also angrily says to Vitali "DROP THAT NOW OR I'LL FUCKIN' SHOOT HIM! DON'T TRY ME I WILL!"

Episode 5- Kenny has become a full ball of rage in the last episode of season 2 but he possibly can redeem himself. By the start of the episode when the shoot out with Clem's gang and the Russians is being fought he yells "FUCK YOU! YOU STARTED THIS SHIT!" to Vitali he also says "ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER!" To Vitali when he was speaking Russian instead of saying "In English!" but he also took Arvo as a human shield and threatened to shoot him if Vitali didn't surrender, he then continually beats Arvo throughout the episode and even threatened to kill him thrice in the 2 minute gap from the fire fight when mourning Rebecca,During the fire fight when he used Arvo as a human shield and he nearly beat him to death when Arvo said "Fuck you." He hits the truck out of extreme frustration later in the episode and says "GOD DAMN IT! SON OF A BITCH!" Kenny also storms off when he gets in a heated argument with Jane, Mike and Bonnie (Determinant) but he also says "God Damn it, that stupid fuckin..." (refers to Carver) he also says "GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE" By accident thinking it was Mike, Jane or Bonnie when it was actually Clementine who entered the shotgun seat. Lastly, he argues with Jane on the road furiously on where to go for their destinations and when Jane talks about how Kenny is a ticking time bomb and Sarita knew it he says"GOD DAMN IT I LOVED THAT WOMAN!" Kenny also says "DON'T YOU MOUTH OFF ABOUT MY FAMILY OR I WILL FUCKIN' END YOU!" This was said in an outraged tone... When Kenny thought that Jane lost or killed AJ he entered the rest station and said "HOW COULD YOU KILL A FUCKIN' CHILD?!" while he throws a punch a Jane but misses he then enters a brutal brawl to the death with Jane and he manages to get her knife and throw various outraged comments to her when the knife is an inch from her heart.

Aftermath and redemption- Should Kenny live and Clementine travels to Wellington with him he is seen in an extremely happy mood even happier than in Episode 2 and when Wellington says they are full Kenny says "Just take the kids, please just the kids, it's too dangerous out here for them, you can take back the supplies if it helps. Please, I need them to be safe" which shows that despite the anger and rage that Kenny had through out the season he was selfless and had a heart. Kenny was also practically begging Clementine to leave him out in the cold and alone and he was crying the first time seen after his family's death in Season 1. If Clementine goes into Wellington he says that it was the right choice. But if she refuses he will happily say "You're as stubborn as a damn mule." and Clementine says "Yeah, wonder where I got that from?" Kenny is seen with tears of joy as they walk away with AJ.

Overall Kenny is an excellent developed character that raises the mos controversy throughout the Telltale community due to his anger and recklessness but besides those factors, Kenny is shown to be extremely selfless towards the ones he cares about.

Tell me what you think in the comments about this thread :)

  • Kenny= 100% controversy.

  • Kenny is shown to be completely selfless for those he cares about, but also completely selfish at times too. As great a character Kenny is, his anger makes him a large detriment to any group, and an eventual danger even to those he cares about.

  • Which is why there are many mixed reactions about him.

I made a really stupid comment, realized it was stupid, and then edited this reply to explain it all.

Seriously, we need a "delete reply" button.

  • Kenny's always angry.

    That's just his character arc.

  • Except for the first episode, this whole season was about Kenny and his rage. That's why I didn't enjoy it that much.

  • Yes, thank you for taking the effort and telling everyone what they already knew. I'm not intending to be a bitch (that's just my sarcasm talking), but why would you put so much effort and time to write this when we already knew?

  • I just felt like showing from the passive man Kenny started as and how he become a rager within 5 months of each episode. I also felt like showing the levels of anger he was at in each episode. But don't worry, I take no offense.

  • This is season 3 in a nutshell if you left Wellington.

  • Kenny in Season 2 is basically a representation of how anger can turn a person into a monster who acts on violence over reason. Even if they have redeeming qualities, those qualities will eventually be overwhelmed by their rage and risk hurting or even inadvertently killing the people they're trying to protect.

As you mentioned, he continues to lose his control over his anger until the final episode where he finally disregards all reason and attempts to use violence to get his way or kill those he thinks are responsible for the endangerment of his own friends and family. Even in his calmer moments, he spends too much time in mourning and not learning how to cope with loss without finding something or someone to obsess over.

He would be a tragic character in Season 2, someone who is unable to learn how to cope with his anger and his inability to deal with loss in a healthy way...but his portrayal throughout the episodes only makes me feel annoyance and frustration with him, mainly due to his belligerent actions never having any real consequences for him to deal with, and being portrayed in a positive light as well as being forced to join his journey to Wellington and being seen as his friend when there should have been a choice to reject him without having to kill him.

  • You can reject him you know that right? Just let him kill Jane, don't shoot him after, say that he's "dangerous" when you find AJ and then say "I'm leaving" you will then leave Kenny behind at the rest stop and you'll end up alone with AJ.

  • To be fair, there was no way of knowing that you could just abandon him if you let him kill Jane since the game is pretty adamant that you stick by Kenny since the game is railroaded to have Kenny remain in Clementine's group.

Besides, I'm not fond of the idea of having a friend kill someone out of anger for something they didn't do. That just doesn't sit right with me.

  • That seems a little harsh, Dawn. Isn't sarcasm the best thing ever, though? It feels relaxing to me most of the time.

  • They didn't take offence since it wasn't implied to make him feel that bad, it was just an honest question that had sarcasm in it.

  • The man is just on a "cycle". He's always mad no matter what.

  • edited November 2014

Yep, the vicious cycle of Kenny. Gets pissy when nothing goes his way and blame everyone else. Then, starts grieving, next is forgiveness, after that he gets pissy again.

    What a character.

  • Kenny and Jane are determinant or dead, so does this even matter? I bet you guys that they won't even be in S3. They might be mentioned but that is it.

  • Kenny will have his little speech soon after he is about to die at the least tho right? He isnt just going to get Omid'ed without doing a single line, RIGHT?

  • Agreed it would only be fair that both sides get some sort of send off. I want it to happen but knowing TTG, and their recent writing trends , i would surmise that they will repeat history in S3.

    Kenny and Hulk similarities:

    Both are always angry

    Both are green

    Both are badasses

    Both have black hair

Both have some sort of transformation:

    • Kenny's mustache turn into a beard
    • Bruce Banner turns into Hulk

    Marvel/Walking Dead crossover confirmed.

Your comment reminded me of that moment from "Avengers".

  • Both are smashing things! Though Hulk does it with his fists and Kenny smashes with a saltlick.
