It is Rodrik, he isn't dead. He probably will appear in Episode 4 or 5 when nearly every hope is gone and then the Forresters will rise out of the ruins of Ironrath. (Ironrath probably gets destroyed or something within the story)

Also am I the only one who thought Rodrik was still alive when the horse fell on him? I kept wondering why Gared didn't try to move the horse off of him...looks like they were setting up something bigger now
