Feel bad for Lilly?

First of all, watch this video, before coming back to this thread.

So, do any of you feel bad for Lilly at all? I mean I feel like some people still don't understand Lilly and why she did the thing she did and think she was just crazy or something.
I think she's one of the most interesting characters in the game, and I'd love for her to have a redemption story arc in season 3, I mean she has the perfect story for it.

  • Based on that video, yeah.

  • I wish Telltale would bring her back.

  • I can understand and I do feel a little bad for her but that doesn't change the fact that she killed Carley/Doug (I really liked Carley and I like Saltlicks so my opinion might not be the best open minded person on this topic :P)

  • Yeah, I feel bad for her, and I'm sad that things went down the way they did. I like her, despite preferring Kenny.

  • I personally didn't feel bad for Lilly. She shot Carley (or Doug, accidentally) in the face because she wrongly suspected that she was stealing stuff. I liked the Kenny comeback but even that was a stretch. I'm fine with never seeing anyone from season 1 (besides Clem, of course) again. It'll get real old if TTG keeps bringing people back who ambiguously disappeared and it'll start to get predictable. And if they feel the need to keep bringing back old characters it most likely means the new ones won't be developed as much and will therefor be less likable and interesting. Just my opinion though.

I feel bad for Lilly. She was so misunderstood. Lilly really did care about the group and was a good person. After she lost Larry, she just felt like she lost everything and needed a friend more than the game gave options for. I got no regrets telling her before she drove off that I'd get Clem and go with her.

  • Nope, not one bit. I wonder if Carley/Doug would feel ba- oh wait.

  • Yes that poor poor woman. The Crooked Man and Georgie killed her for no reason.

  • Yeah, I guess...

Now remembering how Kenny was continuing to become unstable, now it seems both of them have a chapter of instability.

When I saw a walkthrough for Long Road Ahead, I was blown away by Lilly shooting and killing Carley. I was both angry and sad (as I have mentioned in any other Lilly discussion) but yet I kept her for the moment.

Sure, I'm angry for her killing a good character, but I couldn't help but feel for her. A redemption arc sounds indeed promising, and I hope she will return for Season 3. She finds Clem and hopefully will survive for the foreseeable future.

An idea occurred to me: If Lilly has an extreme moment of self pity, you can have Clem tell her she's not alone, she has her...a friend.
Hopefully, that will start the mend and perhaps if Christa returns, they could become friends because of the similar experiences of loss.

Just an idea. But yes I believe she should have her story.

  • I was against a Lilly/Christa comeback but you've peaked my interest (as long as Clem is still main protagonist). I'd like to see how a team of three females would work together, especially when facing aggressive male counterparts. That would be cool. I'm on board :)

  • I still don't have any sympathy for Lily in the scenario of her killing Carley. Yes, she was grieving, but she straight up murdered Carley because she didn't like Carley. I think she thought it was Ben more than she thought it was Carley, but she didn't like how outspoken Carley was since it was usually against what Lily thought. Also, if you keep her with you she steals the fucking RV and flees from everyone b/c she doesn't want to be treated like a prisoner...although she brought that on herself...she made herself a danger to the group...I don't give a crap if she was grieving for her father. Everyone lost just as much as she lost. I left her behind because you can't take the chance on her snapping of someone else again. But, that being said, I do think it would be interesting if she was in season 3...maybe Lily is someone who can help Clementine take care of A.j

  • Of course. Now, I don't approve of what she did to Carley/Doug, but I ultimately felt bad for her and still liked her. I found it unfair that we weren't able to sympathize with her in episode 3 like we were able to with Kenny, (hell, we even got the chance to sympathize with him for leaving a guy's son to die.) She truely cared about the overall group which I respected since she was always getting flak from the others, Kenny especially. And despite her send-offs, I found her to be an overall good person too.

  • I agree that her character was overall a good person. In the moment though, I think leaving her behind is the best thing to do...she wasn't helpless and we make her drop the gun she used on Carley/Doug...and we don't know if that gun was out of bullets...I can sympathize with her, but I do think leaving her behind is the best choice considering she abandons everyone at the train should you choose to take her with you...that's how she chooses to redeem herself. She's still got some compelling qualities and I would like to have more closure with her story, but I don't feel that sorry for her. I never thought she was a bad person...except when she doesn't help you at the St. John's should you help Kenny deal with Larry.

  • I didn't leave her behind in my playthrough and I don't regret it a bit. I didn't help kill Larry and she's had my back whenever I needed it. For me, she did help take out the St. John's, but if you helped smashed Larry's head in, I understand why she wouldn't. I mean, you brutally killed her dad 2 feet in front of her while she's under the assumption he could be saved! Even you make no choice in that situation, she's still nice to you and is understanding as to why you froze up. Also, with the stealing the RV thing, I thought it made sense for her to do that, seeing where her situation was heading at that point, having her tied up, isolated and deciding her punishment and all. I figured when you told her you'd go with her, she thought you were lying and were going to tell the others she's escaped from her restraints and give her a harsher punishment.

With that said though, I can understand why people left her, I really do. But for me, it just wasn't something I could do.

  • killing st. John's was for the entire group's safety. She wanted to risk everyone's life because Larry hadn't turned yet, but they didn't have his pills-he wasn't going to make it out of there. I sided with her a a lot, and i suppose they should've waited for Larry to turn, but that was too risky. I feel needed to be more understanding and pragmatic. Lily wanted to throw duck out to the wolves back at the drug store when he could actually attest to not being bitten(although Katja does)...Lily just wasn't ready to let go yet, as there's never a good time to lose one's kin and only kin at that. But Clementine lost her family...you don't see her going mental...she tells you that she knows they're probably dead, but it makes her feel better to pretend as though they're not...but in that moment, i don't see why anyone would want to bring her along

  • Not really. Lilly wasn't a bad person or anything, but she just was way out of line when she shot Carley/Doug. At that point I felt she just couldn't be trusted to keep her composure, and had to be left behind.

  • I don't really want to get into the whole 'meat locker decision/Larry was or wasn't dead' thing because I know how most of those go, so I'm just going to say that TT probably intended to make Larry's fate on whether he'd live or not unknown.

Lilly actually didn't want to throw Duck out, if you agree with Larry or say nothing, she admits that she was against her father in wanting to do so. Even before the decision pops up, she makes it apparent that they shouldn't.

I don't like comparing people's losses, but there's a big difference between Clem and Lilly's loss. Lilly's under the assumption her dad is still alive and is brutally killed RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER with his blood determinantly all over her face. Clem's parents are assumed dead while they're in Savannah, so they weren't killed in front of her.

I don't really want to prolong this any longer than it needs to be, so let's just agree to disagree, shall we?

  • Yes to an extent. What she did was unacceptable, but I think seeing her dad's head crushed in just drove her close to the edge, causing her to become extremely paranoid and distrustful.

  • She is one of my fave characters. I feel bad for her to an extent, but not completely.

I don't think her shooting of Carley or Doug is excusable though, but I still feel bad for her.

  • For the most part. But then she shot Carley and stole the RV...

Don't like her, but yeah, thought she was pitiable.

  • we can agree to disagree, but .what's a little friendly banter on a discussion forum. Isn't that what we're supposed to do here? Discuss our experiences and likes and dislikes and theories and whatever else thoughts we have regarding the walking dead? TT definitely meant to leave Larry's fate unknown. The game emphasizes moral dilemma's and ambiguity. We'll never agree because I helped killed Larry on my initial playthrough. I did try to talk Kenny down, but in the end I sided with him. Clem's parents may not have been killed in front of her, but they went on vacation and she never saw them alive again. It's not the same, but I'd say it's just as bad

  • I think it was only a matter of time before she murdered Carley. She never liked Carley and her grief and paranoia resulted in her murdering someone. Doug's death was only an accident because he put himself between Lily and a bullet that was intended for Ben. People snap like Lily did all the time in the real world and ya know what happens to them? They usually go to prison or a mental health facility...regardless of why Lily was off her rocker doesn't matter. All that matters is that her mental instability resulted in her killing a member of her group. The best thing to do was to leave her. You can't really treat her the same until you know she's no longer a danger to anyone, but why would she want to stay and be treated like a prisoner until then? She's not left helpless-there is the gun that Lee forces her to drop on the ground. Lily should've been more shocked if people let her stay

  • I know, but sometimes we'll just have things we won't agree on or come to a strong mutual conclusion to, so it's best to just agree to disagree to avoid running things into the ground.

About the Larry case, I'd say they did a good job at making it ambiguous seeing as though people, to this day, argue if he could've been saved or not. lol I simply chose to try and save Larry simply because I wanted to give her the same treatment I did with Kenny in the pharmacy with Duck. I argued he wasn't bitten and that he shouldn't be thrown out.

We will just have to disagree with the loss situation though. I'm not saying Clementine had life because of how she lost her parents, but I think compared to having their face caved in right in front of her while thinking they're alive is much worse.

  • Even though I ended up helping kill Larry, I do think that there's a chance that he could've been saved. I don't think he was dead at the moment in time when we killed him. Had there been the option I would've suggested that the group wait until he awakes as a walker and then do it but it wasn't and so I chose to guarantee Lee and Clementine's safety...
