What to call the next season of Tales

Say if this season of Tales of Monkey island goes successful and a second season is announced, just is it possible for it not to be called Tales of Monkey Island Season 2. Just that to make it more in theme you could say.

Like how they have it with each season of the tv show Red Dwarf, instead of being called Red Dwarf season 2 or season 4, it's called Red Dwarf II and Red Dwarf IV.

So if there is a 2nd season of Tales of Monkey Island, could it be called "Tales of Monkey Island 2" or for more style and even better, call it "Tales of Monkey Island II" to give it that like old feeling :)

Of course yes but this is like a small precaution say if so that to brace ourselves.

I mean for like the spirit of the Monkey island series in a way, to call season 2 of Tales (if there will ever be one) to be "Tales of Monkey Island II".

I like the More Tales of Monkey Island.

    I imagine it now:

    More Tales of Monkey Island
Even More Tales of Monkey Island
Holy Hell, MORE Tales of Monkey Island?

:O How can you not want more Guybrush O.O

Let's wait and see if THIS season will be any good first, shall we? Remember the last time Guybrush showed up (Escape from Monkey Island)? Simply because it's Monkey Island, doesn't mean it's going to be amazing.

Hey! Escape was my favourite. I mean, the Monkey Kombat bit was the worst but other than that you had a descent game.

The only reason it was considred bad was because it didn't sell well in the US since during that time, people wern't into much adventure games anymore. But the game sold very well in Europe and Australia. Plus many major game sites and gaming magazines like IGN etc. gave it high ratings.

So you have no game to blame except yourself US (no offence intended).

    MI5a, MI5b could be possible. or just go with MI5, MI6. lol@ppls claiming it's not MI5. it's the 5th in the series. it's MI5. get a clue.
  • edited June 2009
Iit would me much easier if Tales weren't episodic to say its Monkey 5. This way its a little bit more complicated because we have 5 episodic game. Thats what David Grossman said actually.

By the way, i think he needs more to take part in the writings, because i think he said something like he wont that much involve.

I have to argue with you on that one. Do you label the Star Wars movies the way they were released in order? Do you label Revenge of the Sith as Star Wars 6?

Games should be labeled based on their timeline in a series. In this case, the developers have already said ToMI takes place after a fictional 5th game.

And I really can't consider episodic games as "game xx in a series", personally.

I wouldn't want to see "Tales Again" in any form. A new title for a new adventure would be great.

I really didn't have to quote this part but I can just take this moment to say that Star Wars sucks and I have never watched more than 1 or 2 out of the 6.

I take the rather radical approach of making things easy for a possible audience who hasn't pre-ordered the special edition super bonus t-shirt. Instead of making stuff easy, you want to make stuff hard. How would it work with "back to the future"? So you're all for titles like "MI -12" (yeah, that's Monkey Island minus twelve). We should also use decimals! Then things would get really complicated!

Get a clue. Keep stuff simple and easy so there will be no misunderstandings and so that everyone will know what we're talking about so we can talk about better stuff than "naa aaahh, it's called cartoonISH".
And I really can't consider episodic games as "game xx in a series", personally.
It's just formality anyways, has nothing to do with the actual gameplay. Not everyone is involved in forums and has info. They could just be downloading MI2 for kicks then just googling MI5 out of bordedom and when not getting any results, they'll just not look anymore. Make things easy. Me for president.

I mean lol, I don't understand that quote on youtube when he said that this was not MI5 because *insert stupid random reason here*. What's the point? Why downplay it like that? Because that's what happened, he downplayed his own creation.

And for what? To not upset the diehard fans? *NEWSFLASH* Die-hard fans are addicts, they will buy no matter what! As in elections it's the unsure crowd that is the target audience. Get them.

I think that if we did another Monkey Island game after this, it would have a title wholly separate from "Tales of." (Like Sam & Max Save the World, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space.) I don't know if that would really be the case, because doing another Monkey series is the last thing on anyone's minds right now, what with the first one not out yet.

    Could have:
    More Tales of Monkey Island
    followed by
More Tales of Monkey Island with a vengence.

I don't think thats the case. Frankly, while I did enjoy EMI, it simply wasn't up to the level of the other MI games

Actually, a second season is in part up to LucasArts. Tales and Special Edition could sell so well that LucasArts might decide to develop future games on their own.

You know what might be a fun idea? Calling it "Sam and Max: Season Three", replacing Guybrush with Sam and Max, and removing Monkey Island and all the related characters altogether. That would be fun.

In le meilleur des mondes possibles LucasArts would make new Monkey game, but continue their cooperation with TellTale and we would see both "Monkey 5" and second season of Tales.

But that's just daydreaming at this moment, we have to wait and see how well Tales and Special Edition sell and how the cooperation between the two companies works.

Cool idea, how about "Abroad from Monkey Island".

The story takes place where Guybrush doing nothing but just doing erands around Melee which untill Admiral Ricardo Luigi Pierre M'Benga Chang Nehru O'Hara Casaba the Third arrives with a fleet of what's left of Mandrill's army (which he has now control of) which raids Melee and captures all the pirates with Elaine taken hostage. Guybrush tries to confront Admiral Ricardo which then he gets beaten over the head and blacks out. He then wakes on a ship which he then finds out is on course to Australia.

Once reaching Australia, Guybrush tries to find a way off and back to the tri-island area but also exploring the local area of the town he's in, in Australia.

after Sam & Max season one was completed it was renamed
Sam & Max Save the World

    Season two was renamed
Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space.

So the real question is what will they rename season one.

I don't see why they should rename it. Game already has a perfectly good name and Jake said earlier in this thread that if they make another Monkey game, they would keep the Monkey Island part and replace the "Tales of" with something else.
  • edited June 2009
^ That would seem obvious, since that's what's been going on since the beginning.

The only standout title is part 2, which is just called Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, instead of the usual (Secret/Curse/Escape/Tales) of/from Monkey Island.

Monkey Island 4 is absolutely horrible!
Its graphics were old sinced the release, the MI spirit was ruined with "consumistic" atmospheres (lucre island SUCKS), there were LOTS of conitnuity and story errors (how the hell did Hermann come to Monkey Island? With his vessel, as said in MI2, or in a ship race, like said in MI4?), Herman is Elaine's father (like said in old MIs) AND her grandfather (like said in MI4)! Plus it lost all of the dark atmospheres we saw in old MIs (hell, cemeteries, blood island...). Guybrush is a complete idiot, LeChuck is no more the great nemesis, being Ozzie Mandrill's (Silvio Berlusconi in MI :D ?) little doggie until the very end of the game. Monkey Kombat was slow, frustrating and absolutely fun...NOT. And last but not least the ending: COME ON THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND IS A GIANT ROBOT MONKEY?!?! WHAT THE HELL?!?!
The only bit of the game at the same level as MI1,2 and 3 was Stan's enigma.

Or at least I saw MI4 like this.
