Could Sarah have pulled through?
This is a question that's been simmering in the forums ever since Sarah's fate in ep. 4. Some feel her death was cruel and ableist, while others think someone like Sarah simply couldn't exist in a world as brutal as Kirkman's.
I'm split down the middle, to be honest. While it was never confirmed whether Sarah had some kind of learning disability or mild autism, at least the game allows the player to determine Clem's attitude towards Sarah. My version of Clem did everything humanly possible to save her.
All the same, could Sarah have ultimately proven herself as a survivor if she hadn't been killed? Everyone has their own conception of what "strength" and "weakness" is. Someone could be a complete brute, and crumble at the first obstacle, while an apparent wimp could ride the zombie apocalypse like a raging bull. It reflects a lot of what Carver seemed to be saying to Clementine (in his twisted, sociopathic way).
That being said, I can't help but wonder if Sarah could have evolved into a genuinely strong person if that balcony had never fallen out from under her feet.

She could have, if her friends gave her a chance to recover from the shock instead of assuming that she's a lost cause because she lost her father a few hours ago.
If the group could help Kenny, a guy who they knew for a couple of days, to come around after losing Sarita and hiding a camp to feel sorry for himself, why couldn't they do the same to a little girl they known for much longer?
Of course she could have. Sarah had so much potential that the writers foolishly wasted by having her killed off. Sarah has a similar personality and characteristics that Season 1 Clem had, and we see what she has evolved into. Seeing her dad die right in front of her could have been monumental in her development, it could have been her Lee moment. Clem finally saw what the world truly was when Lee died, this could have been Sarah's moment to see the world for what it is and become as strong as Clementine. Based on your choices, she already knew how to shoot a gun and could have been as tough as Clem and could have survived.
For me the season was all leading up to what happened to her, some people just are not cut out for it for a multitude of reasons. Sarah's death was the entire point of you cant save everyone.
I've never seen all this potential sarah supposablely had; from episode 1-4 she was potrayed as immature and too sweet for the world (in season 1 Clementine gradually grew stronger. Sarah got gradually weaker until the end); she was on borrowed time the way she was acting. She was nice enough but that the harsh reality of the world.
But Doug (another character rumoured to have Asperger's, or something similar) proved himself more than capable of surviving in the WALKING DEAD universe. He didn't crumple up in the way Sarah did; he tried to be useful whenever possible.
Doug didn't die from "the harsh reality of the world." He died from Lily having an itchy trigger finger.
Never believed she had any disability of any sort when I was playing through, but I still had my doubts that she could be a capable survivor. Especially after her father died, Sarah felt like she was not meant for TWD world. It was a nice sentiment teaching her how to use a gun and be tough, but you can't save everyone no matter how hard you try.
I think she could of survived if she had someone like Lee to take care of her. As a fifteen year old child, i personally didn't expect anything of her. I didn't have any expectations, because she was a child. She never had the S1 Training Clementine had, so if she did it would of definitely toughened her up for this season. I think it was Fucked up by TTG to make the player slap Sarah in order to save her life, just to have her die ten minutes later. I was so pissed it cost me a XBOX wireless controller.
What? Doug didnt have aspergers or at least nothing at all suggested he did. And even if that were true .... what is the point there why is Sarah like doug anyway?
If Sarah is gets trapped under the deck, that particular death isn't a result of her PTSD. If you leave her behind, her death is a direct result of her PTSD. However, I think she could maybe survive given enough time to cope and get treatment...most communities and groups are going to be ill-equipped to deal with mental illness, especially when there are only seconds or minutes to escape. Sarah should've stayed inside during Aj's birth and she'd still be alive...well she'd have survived a while longer - which is all someone can hope for, really. If she could somehow comes to terms with her new life then I think she could survive, but her having PTSD as a result of the apocalypse- the odds are definitely not in her favor.
She was starting to, if you'd tried to save her.
I dont know about that she seems if anything even more delusional after being saved with what she says about her dad. Clementine snapped her out of being unaware of what was happening however what progress did she make besides that? Sarah was no stronger than she was in ep 1 through 3
Kenny was also delusional and in denial with Duck's dying in Season 1, Episode 3. Sarah's situation wasn't all that different to Kenny, except she dealt with it in a passive manner than Kenny's aggressive manner.
I dont think she could have gotten out of whatever was wrong with her
No, I don't think so
She could 100%, I know what this thing is, it's a panic attack.
She just needed time to calm down and stop stressing.
I GOT MENTAL ILLNESS!
Me too Georgie.
Honestly, I don't know. I love Sarah, but she seemed broken all throughout episode 4. It just pisses me off that TellTale gave the illusion of being able to help her when you literally can't. She would've needed time and patience, both of which are limited in the ZA.
Sometimes i feel like i'm the only one sane in this world. I mean Jesus Christ, some of the things people say to me.
You know i went to Arby's today and they just came out with these new Jalapeno Hushpuppies, i got some to try it out, ate one in the car, and they were Awesome. My dog was in the car, and he found them and devoured them Solid Snake like. When we got home, he knew what he did and now is hiding in closet.
Its funny to me. I didn't even yell at him, i just laughed.
I know, it feels like the people described as crazy or other things are actually the ones who know what to do.
Yeah...I'm just depressed right now, feel like Sarah in Ep.4.
The clues that shows that Sarah isn't a lost cause and could have been helped are all presented below:
If Telltale was supposed to present her as a lost cause, then they did a terrible job. Sarah still had some fight in her, but she was surrounded by people who gave up on her too soon.
Society is funny from a outside perspective. I see from the perspective of the looking glass house. The strange shapes and sounds that emanate from within, sends me a feeling of apathy.
Agreed.
She was in denial
Let them eat judgemental cake and drink sinless wine,
In their Abercrombie and Fitch matchstick palaces they are the monarchs of old, The sound of the clicks and clacks on board as they live their life through social media. They will feast on facebook lies. for when the children cry i have no identity, no id, no anything. I am a shell, a shadow, a moment that existed but for only a moment... no longer lingers like a morning rainstorm. We herald in a new age of understanding,
You should be a writer. :P
I would write the next Season for free if given the opportunity fix the story for S3.IMO, it is a complete disaster @ this point, but i know i could fix it. I got the perfect story in mind. Oh Wellers. Lets just say it would be more about rebuilding relationships, and establishing some permanency in Clementine's life.
Never thought I'd see the day that I would be given that gif image. Cheers.
TellTale obviously didn't care whether she lived or died, she was placed in the plot the same way a saucy sexual hottie is placed in a slasher flick. She was dead the moment her dad died.
It's a theory that's been tossed around the forum for a long time. There's no concrete evidence, but a lot of suggestions in Doug's general behaviour and choice of clothes. There's definitely nothing to prove he DOESN'T have Asperger's. It simply didn't play any kind of role in the story, so the writers allowed us to draw our own conclusions.
If Sarah could've gotten to Wellington, I think then she might've stood a chance. Outside surviving away from a community, even with Clem there I don't think she would've pulled through
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with mental illness, but Sarah's mental wellbeing drastically lowered her chances of survival. Not everyone with a mental illness is going to die in zombie land, but how your brain deals with the stress and trauma will affect your survival. Sarah's disorder decreased her chances of survival.
Sarah could have pulled through if more of the group had actually assisted with getting her from under the rubble of the deck. I think her legs might have been broken and she couldn't walk anyway. Most of them had guns and someone strong like Mike could have carried her. But she'd only become a bigger burden if she was saved yet couldn't walk and thus handicapped. Still doesn't excuse the rest of the group staring down at Sarah like gawking fools until Jane's punk ass runs away instead of helping Jane and Sarah altogether.
Which would had been interesting to see the group discuss what to do with Sarah after being a cripple. Like make Clem decide to mercy kill her like with Lee again to screw with Clem's brain again. Or have the group scavenge for a wheelchair and give her Rebecca's pain meds if you stole from Arvo. But ya know I just wasn't all that surprised anyway most of season 2 felt to have been written by a group of high school kids anyway. And episodes running time where drastically chopped. Only stands to reason that season 2 could never match season 1 in plot. Or be considered for Game Of The Year again tragically.
Writers just wanted to kill Sarah nothing anyone could do unless they were the head writer of season 2 Walking Dead Game. No different than if they wanted Carly dead Bre or Nick. All the coulda woulda shoulda's don't amount to a hill of beans to what they've already planned out to accomplish.
I think she was starting to if you save her. She was acting like any 15 year old kid would do in a situation like that. I'm only a year older than her and if I lost a family member the way she lost Carlos I'd probably need some time to get myself together too. She needed time to grieve but they were trying to push the idea that she was a lost cause too quickly. Kenny was going through the same thing she was and the writers made you go to the ends of the earth and back to try and get him to pull himself together, I wish we were given the opportunity to interact with her more if you save her.
In the trailer, she at first seems blinded by grief to all of the walkers surrounding them, if you save her then later on she's the first one to point out that the herd was coming. If she wasn't given such an abrupt and illogical second death I think that she probably would have made a lot of progress and pulled through.
This post...
She's the first person to notice the zombies sneaking up on the ruins, and it's pretty obvious that she didn't want to die when the deck collapsed.
People writing her off is more a reflection of their own biases rather than a truth. :-(
The weird bias towards Kenny The Hero makes no sense if you consider Bonnie & Mike's decidedly unflattering interactions with him in Episode 3 - Mike criticizes Kenny for "planning to improvise", and he and Bonnie just saw Kenny get his face smashed. Does that sound like leadership material to anyone sane?
It's like everyone lost their brain-cells after getting smeared with zombie guts.
They are clearly uncomfortable around him and the way he is acting, and yet for some reason he's also the first person they assume will have a plan. That just doesn't make sense to me. Kenny is the perfect example of a designated hero I suppose.
Seriously, Bonnie and Mike are just there to serve whatever purpose the plot needs them for regardless of how inconsistent it makes them. Plot needs some characters to be personable and rational in comparison to Kenny and Luke's childish bickering in Amid the Ruins? Don't worry, Bonnie and Mike are here for that. Plot calls for a betrayal because the finale just isn't dramatic enough without it? Well, we've got Bonnie and Mike for that too!
Not really. Episodes 1 through 3 showed Sarah turns into a wreck whenever her dad isnt around, literally any moment separated she starts to panic. This stems from being naturally childish, being sheltered and the situation shes in, Sarah may have improved somewhat from the full blown panic attack however she was no better in ep 4 than she was in ep 1 if anything she was worse this isnt about if she could have gotten through that particular episode this is whether Sarah had a chance of making it long term In my opinion based on the majority of the facts she didnt.
