what do you guys think? do you think my concerns are ridiculous, or do you agree with what im saying
From "wolf to wolf" I think that MI2:SE would look great! I just hope they call his hairstylist, Dominique I agree with what you're saying...but think about it. Instead of having just one version of the game, we would get two versions to choose from
if there was going to be a special edition of Monkey Island 2: Lechucks Revenge, do you think Dom should sound older, since guybrush is an older character with a beard, compared to Secret of Monkey Island, were Guybrush is younger

I think Dom should sound like Dom because it would be weird if he aged his voice for 2 and then when you played 3 it was back to normal.
MI2 can only be better with the same storyline, the same jokes, the same puzzles, (maybe even the same graphics), the same music, but with voices (like the one from dominic armato and Earl Boen). And with the new version of monkey island coming along there needs to be a compulsory addiction to the older games, just to understand the whole story-arch.
I do not understand why anyone would be completely against remaking any of them.... honestly even if it is terrible its not like they can take away your original copies... and who knows maybe it will be enjoyable to see the same game in a new way.
Definitely, it's so weird that when I go back to play SMI and MI2 that it seems strange to not hear Dominic's voice. Plus I'd really like to hear what Largo would sound like. I agree though, all that is needed is the voices, updated graphics aren't needed. Speaking of which, does anyone know if in SMI:SE when you switch back to the original graphics if the voice-overs stay or do they go away too?
I would love to see a polished MI2, but only because of the voices and the music. You know Peter McConnell wanted to have these tunes played with live instruments and Jesse Harlin did a nice job so far with SoMI: SE. I like that music, though the sound effects are somewhat too loud imo
Like I said before I wouldn't want it to look like SOMI SE...
I would want them to stay true to the distinct style of MI2 just hi-rez
I wouldn't care about a new design, but it stinks imo that you can't have the voices or the new music mixed with the old style. This is pretty uncomfortable to me.

At first I thought that but then thinking about it I like the idea of having the original intact as it was 17 years ago (assuming they're basing it all on the CD version from '92) and available for a whole new generation of fans.
I think it would be very weird to play the original with the new voices.

Well I just played the floppy disk version. I like the music in that and I don't play it with ScummVM as many recommend. DOSBOX is doing a better job with their sound emulation regarding the music. In ScummVM some instruments play a predominant position, which they shouldn't do, like the bell sound of Wally's Theme in the background, that appears occasionally. It's too loud in the ScummVM, but well balanced in DOSBOX. Give it a try, you'll notice some differences. Of course you have to turn off the MIDI-option in the dosbox.conf or you'll just hear the MIDI-music (which you can easily record). The MIDI also got its problems with the instruments' volume. In the Bloody Lip, the clavinet is way too loud, while you can't notice the normal melodic instrument (in this case it's played by a glockenspiel).
Yes yes yes yes YES YES YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!! Please oh please let them make a MI2 remake! This new one is so awesome, and number two has always been my favourite game. PLEASE update it!
With voices and music, MI2:SE could be the most epic game ever made.
But it would require a lot more talent on the art departement than MI:SE. I'd be very happy if they brought in Peter Chan and Steve Prucell to do some funky stuff.
I think it will happen. This seems to be a success, and I think they will do it again. As a new fan, I could not have picked a better time to jump aboard. The fan base with this series is pretty awesome. I remember when Sam & Max came around there was some mumbling about adventure games. When It came to Monkey Island, that mumble became a roar, and alot of gamers like me took notice. If the game is good it will find an audience. Good games never go out of style.
I see no point in making a SE with only new voices and music, if they made a SE with updated graphics and with the swap between old and new feature but added the option with voices and music in the original you would have everything, original, original with voice and the SE with better graphics, why ask for just voices when you can have that and updated graphics?
Yes, if they a) will be making good graphics and a proper steering this time and/or b) allow me to play the game with new sounds and voice actors in the old mode as well.
It would be cool if LA manages to involve Ron Gilbert, making some kind of epilogue of the original (a final chapter), that FINALLY explains the ending of MI2 (in Ron's way, of course). Could be interactive (ideal), or just some text.
Now that would be the perfect MI2:SE....but, sadly, not gonna happen.
Once saving grace could be that they still have the original handpainted backgrounds, so if they could be re-scanned at a higher res that would both look great and save work.
I think the original paintings for the backgrounds have been talked about quite a bit elsewhere on this board. From what I hear, they were done with marker on fairly small paper with the knowledge that they were going to be displayed only at a low resolution anyway, and wouldn't upscale to HD very well--too many of the imperfections would show through.
Of course I wanna see it. What made me quite happy that they've wrote the sentence "Guybrush Threepwood will return!" into the credits of MI: Special Edition.

Well, a little retouching could easily fix that. I remember taking a screenshot of MI2 to 800x600, and it really didn't look bad (that's saying something - I'm horrible with a pen tablet).
I have a feeling LucasArts only released SMI SE to test the water for a new game. I hope I'm wrong, though. The completist in me wants to see all MI games with superb DirectDraw/DirectX/Direct3D graphics (ported with OpenGL to Linux too, ofc) and Dominic Armato's voice. I hope the makers have a fan-centred heart rather than a corporate (profit-making) one!
I think they should do them all. This way all of them would look more like actually the same sequel. Then after they can make another new monkey island to follow the very nice (at least so far) TOMI. Thanks telltale
I think MI2 was a huge improvement graphically over SoMI anyway so I dont think s MI2:SE would be as needed (I cant play the original now due to the graphics, but can MI2)
It would be worth it just for the voices though IMO.
huh the graphics on mi2 are exactly the same unless you only played the ega version of somi and the pixel blurring scummvm does work wonders.
It's going to happen. LucasArts said they'd do it if The Secret of Monkey Island sold well, and it did. I'm hoping it's one of LucasArts several "worldwide announcements" at Comic-Con.
I absolutely LOVED the background art in SOMI SE, and the voices are a nice addition. I will never stop replaying the original, but it's nice to have a choice. Whenever I choose to replay now, It could be either version.
So yes, I'd love to see a MI2 SE, but it's a bigger challenge for LucasArts and will probably cost them a lot more. There's a LOT more characters and locations in this game, considering there's three islands to explore. There's also a LOT of voice-over to be done, considering the library on Phatt Island. Not to mention the gritty atmosphere and overall dark feeling of the game - while still a cartoon, it's a lot more dramatic and serious than the first game (and the later ones particularly). I love Armato's Guybrush, but his wimpy voice may seem somewhat out of place in MI2. Also, the music plays such a huge part in the game that it needs to be up front.
Also, Armato and a lot of other voice-overs sound a little forced in SOMI SE. It sounds like he's reading from a script, although that's what he does. I'm pretty sure MI2 would sound similarly forced. That said, I'm not unhappy with the voices, and maybe it's just because I'm used to my own inner voice when I read. Oddly enough, I never roleplay the voices in my head, so they all sound the same.

Oh c'mon the artistic quality of MI2's backgrounds and characters is on a completely different level than those of MI1. Seriously MI2's handpainted, stylized backgrounds are ridiculously beautiful compared to the low-color, all straight lines, computer-graphics kind of art in the first game, nevermind the same resolution between the games.
It would take some serious talent to recreate any of that for modern resolutions with consistency, unless they somehow find the original drawings.
Of course, for the re-recorded soundtrack and the voice-acting alone, it would be worth it anyway.

EXCEPT in the movie 'Labyrinth' where all the children were voiced by David Bowie.

SHURE! And make it available for Mac OS X.
no voice-overs if you switch to original.

I hope they do release updates for SoMI:SE to fix up how to access verbs and inventory, and to let you delete save games properly.
I want to see those dancing skeletons in beautiful new graphics!
Now that would be the perfect MI2:SE....but, sadly, not gonna happen.
THAT would be epic. I wonder if that's possible?
I hope this means something.
That deserves a whole fat juicy musical number, kind of like "A pirate I was ment to be."
It is absolutely legit to do so, Sierra also remade their games (ex. Space Quest/Larry) in VGA, if my memory serves me correct.
