Did anyone else think that Luke ...

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
Was bitten? The first scene he was in he looked odd and sick, my first thought: "Ok, he's bitten, if anything goes wrong, drop him first".

  • At first, I thought that as well. But no, he is not bitten. He wouldn't have made it through the night if he was.
  • Yeah, I did. That's probably what TT was going for.
  • Yeah, especially since he was acting so manic. But by the time you see him again he should have been a walker, so he was probably just weak with lack of sleep/hunger/stress/etc.
  • Yeah, He seemed like it to me at first (he looked pale and light-headed), but the whole day had passed and he didn't show any more symptoms. He obviously had to never stop moving to catch up to Carver's camp that fast so maybe he was just exhausted?

I think it was intentional to make us think that (it reminded me of Lee), but it was explained that he had been following them for days with no sleep and likely very little food and water. He seemed much healthier later on. Which means he definitely wasn't bitten.
  • Maybe, but does anybody know for a fact that being infected has the same symptoms on everybody? Perhaps it is taking longer on him with different symptoms?
  • Take Pete as an example, if you choose to save him, the symptoms set in almost immediately and progressively got worse over the course of a few hours, same with Lee.

Luke not only followed them for days, but then also stayed alive for an entire night, and still had the strength to go out looking for food, without showing any symptoms at all. he also looked significantly less pale and healthier once he reunited with the group, and if we know one thing, it's that nobody "gets better" from being infected.

  • But he would show some sign of it. Fever, dizziness, fainting. And he looked good at the end (well, as good as you can look after going through what they've gone through...)

  • I suspected as much too, but I suppose it was just hunger and lack of sleep. He looked like shit, and following a group of armed miscreants for several days with no rest or food will do that to you.
  • I thought so too... he looked like crap :/
  • I freaked out at first, but it might have been just the lack of sleep, food and... everything(tbh when he got caught and we had to go back and he was on the floor with Carlos trying to help him, I thought for a minute that he had fainted). Though I still think something is off. He seemed more calm in the previous episodes, but in this one... it's another story.
  • I flipped at first. But, once I saw him back there with Carlos (poor Carlos R.I.P) I knew he was just pretty sick.
  • Wow that thought didn't even cross my mind XD

I just thought he was hiding something (not a bite though) and acting strange.
  • I was worried that was the case, and the puddle of blood didn't help either.
  • I dunno about him getting bitten...But where the fuck is he?
  • I saw he was really pale and out of shape and immediately thought, Bitten. I don't think so as much now, but the Carver thing lasted only the course of a few days. You never know....
  • When I got the option to say "Are you feeling okay?" or whatever, alarms started to go off in my head, like "Okay, he's bit, he's bit, wtf". I was truly freaked out at that point.
  • In all honesty, no. My first thought was that he was just tired and lacked food for energy. People tend to end up like that in those predicaments.
  • Dude you fucking have a spoiler in your title!
  • Nah, I don't think so. He mentioned he hadn't slept or ate for days. He's probably been running after that truck the cabin group was in, I can see why he'd look so worn out. Also, I think he would've shown signs of the fever by now, it only takes less than a day for most people to turn, and he seemed pretty alright by the time they got out of the camp.

Hah, now I have a funny image in my head of Luke frantically running behind the truck in the woods.
  • That crossed my mind too, the same thing with Alvin in Carver's office (for those who kept him alive in E02) because of how badly he'd been beaten. Thought as soon as I got the PA system working Walker Alvin was going to jump me.

You mean something like this, but obviously without his machete unsheathed?

Poor Luke, I can already imagine the suffering he went through.

Luke: "Phew, they stopped for a bathroom break. I've been running after them for hours now. Maybe I can finally sit down for a min..."

Carver: "Bathroom break over! Load them up! We're moving out! It's going to at least take us 8 more hours to get back to camp"

    Luke: "Oh come on!"

  • Several days without food, rest or sleep will do that to you. Not to mention he was always on edge of walkers and Carver's men finding him.
  • i thought he was because he was pale, and he mentions something along the lines of walkers sneaking up on you from behind which ultimately led to me thinking he was bitten :P
  • He was just tired from following them for a few days with lack of food and sleep. He certainly didn't look good, but that was Telltale trying to make us think he was bit. Besides he would've turned by the time they met up again if he was indeed bitten
  • I think he's probably bitten, or at least I definitely did during the episode. I just kind of kept muttering stuff like "No, Luke, you better not be fucking bit--" et cetera et cetera. Except it eventually seemed pretty obvious to me that he was, or at least really sick somehow. Maybe he was infected in some other way besides a bite and that's why it's taking kind of a long time? But who knows.

I don't even know if we can trust Luke anymore, I loved him in episode 1 and 2 but after this... Something is definitely wrong.

He's not bit, he's just really exhausted and to be honest, I feel bad for him. He ran after a moving vehicle for an entire day almost nonstop. He didn't sleep, eat or drink anything in days. He's putting his body through hell to save us which is why I love Luke.

  • That was my first thought. Thankfully it dose not seem to be the case but... Luke is defiantly hiding something, and I think his 'tiredness' in this episode is an element of it.
  • Honestly, I think the guy's just tired and hungry. Hell, I look the same way during exam week.

  • Yep, just like that. I feel bad for laughing, poor Luke haha.

On the serious side, +1 respect for Luke. I didn't pay much attention to him before 203, but he's definitely caught my interest now. I don't think many people have the strength to do what he did—and it's not just going without sleep or food, he probably also had to deal with walkers and heavy amounts of stress.

  • That was my first though too. I was like "No no no no, please don't be bitten. This is Lee all over again." I was really expecting to find him as a walker the next day. But I think it's safe to say that he's not bit. It would be really far-fetched for TTG to have someone with a walker bite last over 48 hours while barely showing any symptoms.

He seemed really different, though. And I mean besides the stress, hunger, and exhaustion. There was this weird desperation in his voice when he spoke that we've never heard before. The whole conversation with Clem in the comic book shop had a creepy vibe to it. I can't exactly pinpoint what creeped me out about it, though.

I'm wondering if something happened to him, like maybe he was attack by someone or witnessed something really horrible. Or maybe he had ulterior motives for rescuing the group. Either way, something is seriously up with him.

Does anyone have any theories as to what's going on with Luke?

One thought I had was maybe he blames himself for everything that happened, since he was the one who lead them out of Carver's camp in the first place. And he's realizing he's not a good leader and he's gotten a ton of people killed and he'll probably get more people killed. And maybe his instinct is to flake out again, so he really has to force himself to help the group, which leads to more guilt. Because of this, Luke's "keep-going" attitude that Nick mentioned could be deteriorating, along with his physical and mental health.

yeah i really thought he was at first... i had to pause the game and walk around the house for a minute because i was just like "bitten. he's bitten. i know it." especially when he almost passed out, but then i kinda reassured myself that he was probably just exhausted... he did seem really desperate though... shaken... hmm........
but then when i went to give him the walkie i was so scared when he wasn't answering i thought he was gonna jump out as a walker...

and then when alvin was getting carvers gun i gasped cause i thought it was walker alvin! but then i was like why would walker alvin be rummaging through carver's desk... and then he started speaking and his whole monologue gave me chills
poor alvin, at least he got a shot at that guard who shot him :(
  • Am I the only one who thinks this was only done for comedic purposes and just to show how dorky Luke is? I mean, he seem fine the next day. If you got bitten, you only gonna get worse every each hour.
  • Hes not bitten, Because at the campfire he suggested waiting a few days to rest up then escape.. If he was bitten why would he say that?
  • Before I realised it was Luke I thought it was someone who was gonna rape Clem.

He was just very, very exhausted from the lack of sleep and food, and having to keep up with Carver.
He hadn't rested in what, 3 days? He's been up and about ever since the morning of that day where they crossed the bridge [it was already afternoon in that scene, but I'm sure they woke up early in that day to walk towards the mountains].

You try and avoid sleep for that long to see if you won't look like a walker bite victim as well.
Not to mention the physical exertion. He followed them on foot, probably running.
