Did anyone else feel sorry for ****? (SPOILERS)

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
Troy, I mean.

I feel kind of guilty because while I hated Troy the first time around playing, I still felt really bad for him when he died. I didn't think anyone deserved that kind of a death, not even someone I hated like him.

Replaying the game and rewatching it through a lot of different Lets Players... I'm starting to feel guilty because I'm feeling more and more pity and even a little bit of gratitude to the guy. Yes, he hit me on my playthrough, but he also /saved/ me - he didn't have to do that, he could have just let the walkers eat me if he was a truly horrible person and no one would have known. Could've said he didn't get there in time or whatever.

Troy seemed like... a jerk, sure, and a jerk with a heart of jerk even, but -- I think he had some good in him. I felt really bad for him, especially when he seemed to be considering defecting - and then blam, gets his dick shot off.

I know I shouldn't feel sorry for the guy but I can't help it. I guess I have a kind of hate/like relationship with him? More like hate/admire, I guess. I just wonder if I'm the only one who felt even a tiny bit bad for the dude? I mean, even if you think he's truly horrible ... did he really deserve to die like /that?/

  • Haha sorry but,*clears throat* HELL NAAAAAAAW.Lol
  • Yeah, I'd say I agree. I was wondering if we'd get to see more of his "good" side, if it even exists, but overall he'd probably be detrimental to the group if he were still alive.
  • only people i think deserve d*ck shot is hitler and osama
  • OH HELL TO THE *gets microphone* [[[[NO]]]]

He may have hit Clem, but he seems more like a selfish prick than an evil villain like Carver.
Worst, he yells at people and beats them once or twice-nothing compared to Carver. Surprises me he hasn't been taken out by Carver's "strength" standard. He appears to be caring for Clem and Sarah at the start too, also indicated by him saving Clem-But the sex deal with Jane and beat down ruined his only possible redemption.
  • heh, they didn't have to force you into there camp either, so he wouldn't have to save you :P plus he probably only did it so carver wouldn't give him the boot

    Not really, honestly.

So..."everything come out alright," Troy? Wuahahaha.
  • ya, i wasnt too thrilled with troy in my playthroughs. only thought i had when jane shot his nuts off was "that was AWESOME!"

  • Eh,it would have been "interesting" if he had lived and came with everyone betraying carver and joining the group, but whatever.he probably didn't like it,but had to act tough for carver or something I don't know.all I know is he was an Owen character with more than a few lines to speak.and the thing he said"AHH!YOU SHOT MY DICK OFF!"
  • I didn't really feel sorry for him, so to speak. what happened to him was fucked up, but he didn't do very much to earn sympathy beforehand. Troy was an asshole, plain and simple, and anyone who willingly supports Carver after seeing him for what he is doesn't deserve pity in my opinion.
  • I think Kenny should've killed him as well..

It would have been a way more interesting storyline if Troy had come with the group to be honest. I don't necessarily like him, but he definitely has good qualities and the group could use a sadistic bastard for the sake of character development. They're kinda a bunch of pussies right now. (Besides Clem obviously <3)
  • Even as le douchebag he was the most colourful character of Ep3 Imo. Although him saving Clem when he didn't need to makes a difference. He honestly seems like a Dwight kind of guy, or for the TV series, Season 1 Daryl. His babysitting complaints seem like a front to make him seem tough and not soft. That and his face when Bonnie tells Carver enough when beating on Kenny, he seems to kind of agree with her but never speaks out. Jerk or not he should've been added for flavour, he does anything bad, shoot or exile Troy
  • Saving Clementine could have just been because he was scared shitless of what Carver was gonna do to him if he found out one of the prisoners died under his watch. It could have been purely out of selfishness.

I mean, Carver pushes people off ledges over berries, who knows what he'd do to Troy?
  • We were getting ready to leave and when I saw him I was like... Are you serious? You're still alive? Kenny, get me the crowbar, it's my turn. He seemed very creepy to me? And he hit me twice, which just put him under Carver on my Hit List. I don't really feel sorry for him. That shot must have hurt like hell.
  • He deserved a bullet in the back of the head, as well as Carver. Quick, simple, and absolutely final.

Don't get me wrong, nobody deserved to go slow and painful more than those bastards. Still, it feels like the group (and really the community) took a sadistic glee in finishing them as gruesomely as possible. Enjoying the death and suffering of other human beings isn't a pleasant path to go down.
  • Troy had it coming. I'm more concerned about Jane pulling the same stunt on someone who DOESN'T have it coming...

  • Not at all. He hit a child and had one attitude: nasty. Karma gave him what he deserved.
  • Yes! I agree - although Troy was still kind of a jerk, I got the impression that he was trying to act tougher than he really was.

  • I could easily see that happening, which is why I'm cutting her loose in the next Episode if given the choice. I don't trust her.

  • Troy was a dick, so he got shot where it hurts the most, lol. I think he was actually going to try to help the group though, but Jane didn't let that happen. Oh well, good riddance.
  • Lol not in the slightest.
  • I was kind of looking forward to seeing him, like a Dwight/Merle kind a guy. The difference to me is Dwight and Merle at least got some development. Troy was kind of bland, he seemed like he had one mode "angry dickhead" lol. But tbh yeah i did kind of feel a little bit sorry for him, he had zero redeeming qualities but i was kind of hopeful he would join us and we could see another side of him, he would still be an angry dickhead but maybe that wasn't all there was to him.
But getting your dick shot off then being eaten by zombies is a pretty bad way to go.

Eh, I thought Troy was an asshole, but I still don't hate him as much as some other people. I don't think he deserved to get shot in the crotch and subsequently eaten alive, that's pretty cruel, even for him. I saw his death coming though since there was no way he was joining the group, but admittedly it would've been entertaining to have him around and maybe see him redeem himself.
For half a second I thought he might've shown his better side when he saved Clem, but no. He was probably just afraid of getting punished for failing to save her. I'm sure he knows the price for incompetence in Carver's camp; you can actually overhear Carver getting angry about him for "putting a ding in his door" over walkie-talkie. Talk about petty.

I could see him as the type of person to put on a tough front, but that doesn't excuse him being way overzealous about resorting to violence.
All things said, I still wonder why he bothered asking Clem and Sarah if they were alright at the start of the episode. That seemed a little OOC.
  • I thought that was a bit OOC too, but then he said "Everything come out ok?" so considering the fact that they stopped for Sarah to go to the bathroom, I'd say that he was making a crude joke and wasn't all that concerned about them. Sarah and Clem glare at him after he says that, which is funny :P

  • No not at all. I honestly thought he was becoming the next Carver, or at least saw the worse in him. One very slight moment of his "good side" isn't going to sway my opinion. I like what Jane did.
  • Nah.. i don't think so.

To me, Troy was just a hound dog that was in a comfortable position in "Carver's society".. he liked to be feared and to "get heavy" on others. I think he got what he deserved ..
  • Ohhh yeah, I considered that at first but I wasn't entirely sure what he meant. That is pretty crude tho lmao

  • I kind of felt bad for him. He kind of seemed happy to get to leave, but then he got his crotch shot off. Oh well.
  • Troy was an asshole i didn't feel bad for him
  • i thought he will go with us
  • I fucking hated Troy, but no one deserves to be shot in the dick and eaten alive. That's kind of screwed up.
  • Yeah, at least shoot him in the head. Shooting a guy in the nads? How rude.

I fucking hated Troy, but no one deserves to be shot in the dick and eaten alive. That's kind of screwed up.

  • I did think "come on, that was awesome but we should probably finish him off..." when I thought we were leaving him alive and dickless, but then some walkers finished him off and I was VERY satisfied with the whole thing.
  • Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought that way. In my opinion, flawed characters are the best. And Troy had many flaws. He was an asshole, but still showed signs of having some kind of humanity left in him, unlike Carver, who was a full fledged monster. There was no real reason to kill him and even use him as live bait, seeing as to how he was about to deflect to the cabin group (at least it looked that way). Killing him off was such a waste of potential, really. Getting to see how he would stick around and be like when he worked FOR Clem and the gang instead of against them could have been amazing. Instead they just pulled a lame Shane on him. They could have still killed him if he turned out to be too much of a jerk.

And mind you, Troy could have been shaped into his character by Carver, seeing how even the 400 days characters are kind of a bit more grim now. At least I got that impression from Wyatt and Russel.
  • I did as well. Troy was possibly simply forced to be "Cold and Hard" because of Carver. That part with Jane talking with him made him go soft. It was pretty cold of Jane to have done that. But like Lizzie from the TV series, he probably couldn't have been fixed and needed to be away from people.
Honestly, he reminds me of Mitch from the TV series.
  • Troy was a Justin Beiber fan, you can tell by his sick-ass haircut.
  • I think he deserved it. Asshole.

I'm glad I'm not the only one felt that way. Yeah I felt bad for him. His scream after getting shot was just...fuking awful. Was he a DICK?! Yes, of course. But getting shot in the dick and after getting eaten alive. That pain just...I can never imagine. Owen Thomas really did a great job.

The fucker deserved it.. He chose to be a disgraceful man and hit Little girls so thats what he gets.. A nice bullet in the dick. The only reason why he was being nice to Jane was because he thought he was gonna get some. Other than that he was too far gone and too manipulated by Carver.
