When Do You ALWAYS Cry In Video Games?

edited August 2014 in The Walking Dead

Whenever I play episode 5 No Going Back of Season 1, even if I just read the script or watch it on YouTube I always end up crying. When do you guys always cry? What video game moment? Why? :'(

  • Only idiots cry about it, how could they cry about a video game ??? It is not real!!!

  • Crying about a video game is no different than crying in real life...

  • Ever since I saw a puppy get kicked once in a tv show when I was 8, I haven't cried since. I'm dead inside since. Sorry Sam.

  • Crying at media is due to a little virtue we call 'empathy'. Some people have loads of it, others don't.

  • I guess the harshness of reality has decreased the virtue of empathy for some.

  • I've only cried once in my gaming history, at my first playthrough of No Time Left.

I nearly cried when Sarah died, but I didn't.

  • Because of the anterior insular cortex. The part of the brain controlling empathy. What we see in others is reflected in us. Unless of course you don't have empathy, but then there are bigger problems than not crying during a video game.

  • Being emotionaly attached to video game characters and empathise with them is no shame. I'd say it's humane.

  • Video games have never made me outright burst into tears, but dat season 1 ending got me teary eyed and made me feel horrible for about an hour or 2 after playing it.

  • Where is my downvote button!?!?

  • Both in movies and in video games, whenever a young girl, like a daughter or younger sister dies, I usually tear up.

  • I do a list of videogames where i cried (first 3 games made me cry a lot):

    1. The Walking Dead: Season 1
    2. Mass Effect 3
    3. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
    4. Ib
    5. Homefront
    6. Outlast (here i cried for scary lol)
  • Played/seen The Last of Us? That had me in tears for sure, more than once.

  • As weird as it's think about for me, I never really cried over a game before. This is the first game I actually cried over. The feels the game can provide are very strong. Over movies? Sure. Especially Cast Away... with... Wilson..

Besides Lee's death in the Walking Dead.

I shed a tear on Spec Ops when the big thing happens on The Gate (you know what I'm talking about if you've played it.) Probably the most uncomfortable and unsettling moment in a video game I've played.

For some reason, when I was like 12 and beat Ratchet and Clank 1 I cried a bit at the end. When Clank says "my arm is broken" and Ratchet says" you'll be alright." Then Clank starts walking with his head down and his broken arm hung on his other arm. Don't ask why that made me sad though.

Rarely ever. The only games that ever made me cry were Mass Effect 3 (Mordin and Thane's death),Dragon Age:Origins, and TWD Season 1's ending.

  • You empathised with Clank.

  • I cry, not always when I think I should, but when Katja shot herself and Lee's and Sarah's deaths are two where I did.

I was also close on several other occasions, such as Alvin's (S2ep3), Ben's(S1ep5) and the fake Kenny Death from Season 1.

  • I cried for Soap's Death in Modern Warfare 3 (Yes, i cried in Call Of Duty).... That moment was so sad

You're not alone on that, I felt sad about that too. I always liked Soap and Price. Also Yuri's death in MW3 made me sad too.

  • Never because I've learned how to not behave like an adult manchild, more or less.

  • I like how a lot of people are pretending that not crying is much awesome and very grown up :p

  • I know, I'm a huge fan of the series! :D

  • If anything, crying is mature and more grown up.

  • You and me both. Favorite VG franchise of all time.

My fav has to be a tie between Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal (of course), and Tools of Destruction.

    How about you?

  • Well, I'm not going to argue. Just think it's silly that a person would feel more entitled to adulthood because they can fake their sadness away. :)

  • Up Your Arsenal, good name, has my fave weapons and I love the secret boss battles.

  • Accepting your emotions is one step up to true maturity :3

  • The Walking Dead was the first game that made me cry. And it also made me cry of joy for the first time in my life! Crying over games because it's sad is okay, but crying because you're happy... Seems kinda odd for me. Well, I dunno.

  • Yes I agree, but try to avoid to spoil the game for everyone else please! :)

Sarah's death was really emotional the game I played it was a real good game

  • Just... Stop talking, please.
