Confederates were pro-slavery I believe.
Confederates were pro slavery and Rebecca's African American so that's why...
.
I didn't get it on my first playthrough either, as I don't really know anything about the American Civil War. But it's the pro-slavery color, apparently.
Read more. Play less games.
Seriously... I'm Canadian and I knew this. /facepalm
Why facepalm? You know not everyone lives in America. lol
Well, you don't have to be American to know about the American Civil War. This sort of thing should be common knowledge. I'm British and know all this... Shame people don't show an interest in history despite the fact it's a big deal, really.
'MURICA! Where foreigners know more about your history than you do!
You'd think you don't have to be american to know about one of the deadliest wars in human history don't you think?
That was hilarious and at first I was like 'did he mean what I think he means...oh yep.'
Mike had some good lines in the 4th ep...
Wow you guys are being a little tough here, if OP isn't from the United States or/and may be of a younger age, it is possible that they have no knowledge of the American Civil War. In Australia, learning about this event is not apart of our mandatory curriculum during school years (as you get to the senior years of high school you may be able to learn about this topic with selective history subjects but I can't be certain).
The only way I knew about the American Civil War as a child was because my mother's favourite movie was Gone With the Wind.
I'm not saying you have to be American to know about it, I'm saying he acts like this stuff is like the native language of every country, sure people should know it, but not everyone is going to know it and you can't hold it against them.
See answer above BRUH
Seriously. I'm American and I had to refresh my memory. Never was a history buff.
And to be honest, I thought it was a pretty stupid attempt at humor.![:/ :/](https://community.telltale.com/resources/emoji/confused.png)
TWD is a game rated 18+ "Younger" shouldn't be a part of this equation and this should be common knowledge. Not understanding this reference proves you're too young for this game.
If you're under 18 and don't know the COLOURS that the Confederates and Union wore, you need to re-prioritize your life. Even if you don't read a lick, you could learn this from the fucking Simpsons or any number of well known movies.
...unless of course you're not from America, in which case the AMERICAN Civil War wouldn't be quite as important to your nation's history.
Dude, I'm American and I love the Civil War, but it's not a big deal if non-Americans don't know anything about it.
I'm Canadian and I knew this. It's one of the most well documented wars in history. It was covered in my history classes in elementary school.
I have a hard time believing that other countries don't cover it in history class at all. It's an extremely important event.
The confederates withdrew from the union because the federal government was changing the laws, basically the real reason is state's rights.
It's wonderful that you are passionate about this topic but you need to tone it down a little. The fact is that there are younger members on the forum and if for any reason they or anybody else are not aware of events such as these, they shouldn't be shamed for it.
I agree that we should encourage them to learn. As you noted in your post (and as I stated in mine) some forms of medium host a slew of cultural/historical references, which acts as the catalyst to ask the question (like the OP) and be introduced to events of history such as the American Civil War (like the posters in this topic).
And what laws were they changing?
I feel so stupid.I thought he meant AJ because he was white.
Well, I finished school years ago so I don't know if the syllabus has changed now but it wasn't covered and despite this I stll love my country.
Surmising as "they changed laws" is a well.
There were a lot of causes for the civil war, by surmising it as simple as "slavery" is wrong.
Well i live in Australia and i don't know a single thing about this war whatsoever.
Don't feel bad i don't know much about Australia, except that there are Kangaroos, and it was started as a prison colony. I also heard that Australia has a huge feral cat problem, and that they are killing the local wildlife.
But the baby didn't even born when Mike said this...
Best thing about Canada ...
The South park Parody of it.
I live in Europe and we learn about it in the 3-4 year of secondary school, I don't know why you can't believe they don't teach it in some countries.
Wow, some of you guys are being genuine assholes here. If he/she didn't know there's really no need to insult them.
That's pro Americans for ya...grabs popcorn
Yeah, I'm British and we were never taught about the Civil War in school at all...
Agree. I live in Germany and I've heard tons about the American Civil war. It's pretty big in our history lessons at school.
Because the Confederates were slave-owners.
Ironically, Rebecca's non-chalance about wearing a coat aligned with slave-owners makes sense for a woman who'd once aligned herself with Carver, a man who enslaves people.
I loved Rebecca for telling Mike how stupid he was to even think she would care in her situation.
He pissed me off so much there. Seriously, acting like a confederate coat is something so evil and repulsive he would rather freeze to death than wearing it...
We're in the f*cking Zombie Apocalypse, surviving one day after another is the only thing that counts, there are zombies everywhere out to kill and eat humans and most of the few survivors have turned into predators to other survivors, everyday is a nightmare, but "oh my god a confederate coat stop everything, this is wrong, like, the worst thing ever". Eat shit Mike. Glad you were likely shot by Kenny.
And Poutine
Ok, now I know about it too. It's really unfair people are criticising you for not knowing that. It's not like you study that war in every country. In my school in Portugal, they didn't teach us the colours they wore in the war. You only study that deeper if you choose to have history later on.
I love how I know more about America's history than my own country's...
