This Fan Base Can Not Be Satisfied

Remember back in Season 1 when Kenny died? Everyone kept saying that "They need to bring him back!!!" "Kenny shouldn't have even left!!" "fuck You TellTale!!!!" Now, when everyone finished All That Remains and heard the "I thought you were dead" line, all the Kenny fans(myself included) started having a spaz attack! "We love you TellTale!!!!!!" Now, after the end of this episode, everyone's opinion has suddenly changed. "Kenny shouldn't have come back, it destroyed the season!" Whhhhattt? Everyone assumes that Carlos was going to replace Kenny in the story this Season. Why? How do you know that? This is nothing more than a theory that I believe to be false. Before No Time Left was released and Gavin Hammon was recording the alleyway scene with Ben, he originally was screaming and it was very obvious that he died. A few days later, they changed it so you couldn't tell. Why would they do this if they didn't plan to bring him back in Season 2? When people get what they want, they get pissed at it. We asked for longer episodes: Amid the Ruins. After that came out people said "Nick and Sarah dying was so stupid!!" I agree with that statement. However, remember two Characters that had a lot of potential in Season 1 and died stupidly? Chuck and Carley/Doug. Now this season is far from perfect. I think the 400 Days characters were handled poorly. Where the hell were Eddie, Nate, and Leland!!?? And I was pissed Christa never showed up. However, Kenny coming back was something I always agreed with. I'm ranting now. Anyways, you guys get the point.

I thought Chuck and Carley/Doug's deaths were great, Chuck's because we actually get some context. I didn't like Nick's because he was a determinant character, and determinant characters should get more development before they die, and they should have some sort of focus before their deaths, but for some reason Nick was not allowed to have any extra development before death.

  • For Kenny, people criticized his return because people think it pretty much ruined the story and he's long gone with his determinant status instead of unknown

  • I thought everyone's deaths were handled well, aside from Nick and Sarah's second death scenes. For Kenny coming back, I think people wanted him back, just not how he was handled. Like taking up screen time for other characters, being forced to be his friend etc. Other than that, people like to nitpick.

  • ^ This. I'd even argue and say that no video game fanbase can ever be satisfied, especially when the series with a particular fanbase is hugely popular.

  • people actually complained about carley's death also back when season 1 was out there were people complaining that some of the episodes particularly episode 4 were too long and now people are complaining that they are too short

  • Is the clem vs duck video ready yet?

It would have been nice to actually see Nick die on screen. But then again, we didn't see Chuck die on screen either, and he was a pretty cool guy. I'm pretty biased about the Kenny situation, he's one of my favorite characters.:/

  • Kenny is the only thing that "saved" this Season.

  • I was satisfied. It was a rough road. A rocky path, with a few potholes and speed-bumps on the way, but I'm still glad I took the trip. No regrets,

Don't speak for everyone. I, for one, didn't want that asshole tainting the narrative of season 2.

    Too late now, though.

  • True, I agree, but that doesn't make it a bad fan base.

  • Well your point exactly? Literally all fanbases bitch about the series they love because they want it to be perfect. I only read your first sentence and I see where you're already wrong.

With that same logic, it's like brining Luke back but he ends up murdering AJ and having emotional problems and cannot stand the cold and you're expecting us to like him since he's "luke". No hunny telltale fucked him up for others, but In my opinion (I don't care about yours so don't bother) telltale made me love him more honestly.

it doesn't matter anyways lol Kenny would most likely die or some shit bc of his eye and jane would ditch clem again so clem would be forced to be alone and end up meeting christa or lily then telltale would fuck them up too.

However, remember two Characters that had a lot of potential in Season 1 and died stupidly? Chuck and Carley/Doug.

Except all of those characters had largely completed their own arcs and had had a big impact on the story somehow, with Carley/Doug saving the group from the St. Johns in their own specific ways, Carley telling Lee to bring his past to light with the group and Doug becoming stronger and more of a fighter, and Chuck having one of the biggest impacts on Clementine's chances of survival and going out saving her life. Nick and Sarah got some okay development at first and then were killed off in ways that pretty much gave their fans the middle finger for ever even considering the idea that they could have had full and complete character arcs.

That's pretty much the problem with season 2 in a nutshell, which I just realized today: It's all about presentation and setting things up, but when it comes to the actual delivery, the narrative just drops the goddamn ball.

In any case, I never wanted Kenny back to begin with because his story was done and I would have wanted to see more of Lilly instead, but I was willing to go along with his return because I figured Telltale wouldn't bring him back without a good and interesting reason. Turns out they just brought him back to rehash his old story and the entire season suffered for it.

  • Its not like the exact same people all made those exact complaints. The fan base isn't some hive mind, there are different people with different opinions and complaints.

  • Yeah. Thats what happens when you give people what they want, not what they need.

  • Having Kenny around put every new character in bad stop, considering how well players knew Kenny and how badly they introduced all new characters to us.

  • The "Kenny shouldn't have died" complaints had to do with "how" he "died." There was absolutely no reason whatsoever for him to stay down in the alley. It was absolutely silly and those complaints were legit.

Him coming back after having him in an impossible to escape situation like that is also a legit complaint. It feels like a cheap-shot when the writers try to make you think somebody is dead and then have them be alive. It pulls you out of the game.

That said, I was glad to have Kenny back as I thought is death was fucktarded to begin with. I seriously felt like Kenny was saying "Get out of here Lee! I have no good reason for staying down here at all whatsoever but the writers want me to die a hero's death, so I'm gonna!"

In my mind's eye, when I'm playing season 2, I just do my best to blot that out of memory and pretend there was a window or something that the camera didn't see, and that he didn't tell Lee to leave, but that he was cornered or something and Lee had to run to save his own skin, or some such BS.

  • Yeah that's what a developer expects not everyone is gonna like what you create some will hate it others will like it and some will make it into a new religion. xD anyways this community ain't bad it's just full of people with different views and ideas on how THEY think the game should be handled to me that doesn't make them bad.

  • people want things to go their own way.

    welcome to life

  • Too many nit-picky bastards here. >:(

  • ..... Its not the same people obviously, I thought he had a good arc in season 1 and they didnt even kill him, I was fine with him coming back maybe if he had new story material but he didnt

  • Don't include me in that "all" and "everybody". I didn't want Kenny back. I was perfectly satisfied with his ending in season 1.

  • He ruined it for me.

Kenny is the only thing that "saved" this Season.

  • I am happy Kenny came back and all, but the reason why they are angry, is because telltale put him in the spotlight, and basically threw all the other characters out the window.

  • A lot of things ruined it for me. The shitty treatment of Sarah, her father for one thing. What a sad game.

I thought Kenny's season one ending with Ben was clearly avoidable, considering he didn't have to face the horde to put the kid out of his misery, but I was satisfied as far as the end of his character arc went.

And I think how season 2 handled Kenny himself could have been worse, but as others have said, his story retreads a lot of old territory while new characters are forced off-screen to make room for it.

    You're massively oversimplifying.

You're implying the fan base was united in their desire for Kenny to not leave in episode 5 season 1. They were not.

You're implying that people only complained about his return after this season ended. They did not. People have been saying its a mistake to bring him back ever since the I thought you were dead line when it became painfully obvious that he would return.

You're also implying that the entire fan base were happy when he came back. They were not.

So, in the end we have: the KDB saying he should return, the KDB saying they're glad he returned, and others saying he shouldn't have. So it's not an issue of nitpicking or hindsight related criticism It's purely an issue of not being able to please everyone, which is present everywhere and not just in this fanbase. As a result, this thread is just showing something everyone knows to be true...to be true. WHich is pointless..

  • How can one truly know what the people need though? Its always going to be subjective.

  • I totally saw this gif coming lol!

  • This website feels a bit toxic from time to time with people slinging around complaints about how things didn't go the way they wanted it to and then stating it's bad writing as if it's a fact. People just have to realize that no game is perfect (season 1 had problems too) and Telltale did their best to tell an entertaining story. You can't please everyone as they all have their own perspective on how the game should be, it ticks me off to see these silly complaints every now and then, but I know at least I enjoyed this game and that's good enough for me.

  • Everything ruined it for me. lol

  • Oke that carlos died was one thing but that they let sarah die too was a mistake in my eyes.
She could very well go with Clem and become a hardass, but its their decision and a Z-A is harsh
