Vote closed! And Maya will go to Raymun Redbeard to tell what has happened in his tent. I've started to write the next part and I'm pretty sure it'll be ready tomorrow. I can tell that it's Argus POV.

  • I NEED to catch up with this :(
I'll catch up some time in the week :D

  • Argus

There were six of them. Argus, Alistair, Federico, Bryan, Dickon and Tom. Argus and Federico were the youngest, both being seventeen, Alistair was twenty-one, Bryan and Dickon were on their late twenties and Tom on his mid-thirties. Argus was from the Vale, Alistair from the North, Federico was from the Neck, Tom was from the Riverlands, Dickon and Bryan from the Reach. They stood silently on the yard of Castle Black, looking at the Lord Commander Jack Musgood who was eyeing them with tired eyes, as if he hadn’t slept at all last night. Argus closed his eyes for a moment, this was supposed to be honorable moment in his life. He tried to think of a life as a ranger in the Night’s Watch, he tried to see the honor, he tried to see the glory. But all he could see was cold nights, crumbling towers and leaking shithouses. He opened his eyes and looked on his left. Alistair was smiling. Soon that smile would fade.

“You came here from different corners of the realm. You came as volunteers, you came as criminals.” Jolly Jack started to speak, and just like his eyes the sound of his voice was also tired. “You came as nobles and you came as peasants. Today you shall leave all that to past. Today you shall become brothers. And when you say those words and take your vows you will be bond to this brotherhood until the day you die at your post. So if you have a choice, think carefully before making it.” The Commander was looking at Argus, Federico and Alistair who were all volunteers. I have been thinking carefully for days, but I haven’t found the answer. “If you still have dreams of finding glory here, abandon those dreams now. This is no place for glory. We are not knights in shiny armors, riding to battle with promise of gold or a hand of a beautiful lady in our minds. We are the shields in the darkness. We guard the realms of men, that is our duty and that is our life.” As the Commander finished speaking Argus could hear Dickon sigh. He doesn’t have a choice.

“I’ll be handing out your assignments now, and after that you can take your vows in the sept, or if any of you keep the old gods you can take your vows by the heart tree north of the Wall.” Jack said as he walked closer to the recruits. “Tom to the builders. Federico to the rangers. Dickon to the stewards. Argus to the rangers. Alistair to the stewards. Bryan to the builders.”

Argus looked carefully on his left. Alistair was in shock, that much was clear. Maybe I should have warned him this would happen. After the shock disappeared from Alistair’s face anger replaced it. Argus tried to tap his friend on the shoulder but Alistair walked away without saying a word. Argus sighed and turned around. Eren Meratus had come to the yard. The Volantene merchant smiled to them, but Argus could see there was not a piece of respect on that smile.

“Congratulations, warriors of the realm.” Eren said with a sly tone. “Isn’t it such a great moment… To swear to your gods that you will freeze your balls off here for the rest of your lives and never get to fuck a beautiful lady again.” Bryan and Dickon were looking at the merchant with anger in their eyes, but they dared not to say anything. “Then again, oaths sworn to false gods shouldn’t be worth anything. The one true god is the Lord of Light and he cares not if you put your cock in a girl or not. Maybe the Seven want to save all the whores of Mole’s Town for themselves.”

“That is enough, foreign bastard.” Tom said with quiet but strong voice. Argus didn’t know why exactly had Tom been sent to the Wall, but he was a strong and big man with powerful words. “You can keep your fire god for all I care, but do not mock the Seven.”

“And who are you? A zealous aurochs?” Eren had a mocking smile on his face. Before Tom could answer Argus stepped in front of the merchant.

“You may think you are above us, Volantene, but for what I have seen you seem just like any another rich man with no honor. There are many like you, all worth nothing.” Argus could see a small flame of anger in the purple eyes of Eren as he spoke these words to him. “Thank you for congratulations, but I’m sure you’ll excuse me for leaving your company, I have to talk to the Lord Commander.” Argus didn’t wait for the merchants answer before walking away.

    -

Jolly Jack was talking with his personal steward Robett as Argus arrived for them.

“Go to George, Wulfric, Howard, Victor, Jaremy, Khort and Edric and ask them to come to the yard. I would like to have a word with them before we leave.” The Commander talked tiredly to his steward. “Oh, and tell the Volantene that he must wait until I return if he wants to do business with me.” Robett nodded to Jack and went off.

“Lord Commander.” Argus said and Jack turned to him. “I take it you are not planning to take me with you to this rescue mission.”

“You just became a ranger Argus…” Jack started, but Argus cut him off.

“I understand. I just wanted to make sure.”

“And why is that?” The Commander asked with interest in his eyes. Yes, why?

“Because… I think Keran is someone worth saving. I hope you’ll find him alive.” Argus answered, looking down. He had to decide now. Would I stay or go?

  • Yeah, gravestone :D The situation is that with the amount of studying I have at the moment I just can't write this. I could possibly continue after my entrance exam to university, which is at the very beginning of June, but the question is will anyone be interested anymore? :D

And Lord_EAA, if I do continue this in the summer then no it's not too late to join :)

  • I will finish it for you!

Like if the sun was swallowed, a large cast of a shadow was looming over them.

"Dragon!" one shouted out as he frantically shot at it. "it's me, mofos!" and it was he, King Thorren Forrester of Ironwoodia.

and on that day, everyone from Beyond the wall to the Shadow Lands bend the knee to our one true king.

Thanks, both of you! In the summer I'll be free of the stress of studying and have much much more time to put in this. So as I said if there still is interest in this then I'll be happy to continue :)

Hey! No, not a new part yet (I have actually done some slow writing so I might actually drop a new part at some point this month), but everyone who reads Liquid's Forum of Thrones knows the awesome pixel art characters made by @foxbrg2 , well I made something pretty similar today of one of this fanfic's character, Rambton Snow aka One-eyed Crow. So, here it is:

    Maya

She walked side by side with king Raymun, and one of the Hornfoot clan leaders was walking right behind them. Maya didn’t say a word, she could see the fury in the eyes of Raymun Redbeard. And as they stepped into the king’s tent Maya could smell the presence of death in the air. The pale, big man with blonde hair and blue eyes was laying on the ground, trying to stay alive as the gods were pulling him away from this world. The Thenn stood silently next to Jonk, holding his huge war axe.

“Poison.” Raymun hissed with disgust and anger in his eyes. Yes, that would make sense.

“Aye, very likely.” Said the clan leader who had followed them in. “I’ll fetch Terry, he knows of such things.”

“Tears.” The Thenn said again after the clan leader had left the tent.

“What the fuck do you mean ‘tears’?” Maya asked, feeling annoyed. “You want to cry, Thenn? Go ahead, weep for the fucker, he’s dead anyway.” The Thenn said something in Old Tongue, clearly irritated, but Maya just let out a mocking laugh and shook her head. “I don’t understand you, idiot!”

“Calm down, Maya.” Raymun said with cold and calm tone. Then the king turned to the Thenn and started to speak in Old Tongue. Maya sighed and looked at Jonk again, and for a moment she felt sorry for the man. Apparently Jonk had been just a simple man following orders. He deserved to die, but not like this. Whoever had done this was a spineless coward. I would have let this man try to defend himself, and then I would have given him a clean death.

As Raymun kept speaking with the Thenn, a young Hornfoot man entered the tent. He had long face, blonde hair, short goatee, and mismatched eyes the other one brown the other one blue. First the man looked at Maya, then his eyes turned at Jonk. Maya could see something in those mismatched eyes, but she wasn’t sure what it was – terror or excitement?
“I was sent here to see if there is anything to be done to that man.” The man said with a quiet voice. Maya closed her eyes and calmed herself before answering.
“Well, go ahead, there he i-“, Maya tried to say but the man cut her off.

“There is nothing to be done to that man. He hasn’t been poisoned with the herbs of these forests – he surely can’t be cured with them either.” Right after those words Raymun walked next to them.

“This Thenn, Barryn, says that the man he was traveling with - one of the Magnar’s advisor’s – Skjorn the Scholar poisoned Jonk with a poison of the southerners called ‘Tears’.” Raymun’s words uttered hatred. “Of course, I was the one who was truly meant to be killed.”

“Well, shouldn’t we kill the Thenn?” Maya asked, looking at Barryn who stood there with a grim look on his face.

“Barryn didn’t do this crime… And he wants to join us, he says he wants to be there when the Free Folk defeats the crows.” Raymun said and Maya knew the king had made his decision. Then Raymun looked at the young Hornfoot man. “You are Terry? Is there a way to cure Jonk?”

“No, my king, he will die.” Terry said with his quiet and serious voice. Raymun let out a small sigh and took a knife from the table, he kneeled next to Jonk and slit his throat open with a swift and clean cut. And after a small gurgling the shambling words stopped and there was no life in the eyes of Jonk anymore. Maya didn’t know what to feel as the blood drained out of the man. I should have been the one to kill that bastard.

    -

As Maya walked out of the tent she saw Rumak standing there in the darkness, looking at her with judging eyes.

“I know why you went into that tent, Maya.” He said with quiet and grim voice. He is disappointed.

“Yes, I wanted to kill Jonk. I was doing what was right. Or have you forgotten Torgon already?” Maya was tired, too tired to argue with Rumak, so she just kept walking, but of course Rumak followed her.

“I respected and loved that man, do not claim that I would have forgotten him. But have you? Do you even care about Torgon, or do you just need a reason to hold grudge over?” Rumak grabbed Maya’s shoulder, making her take out her blade. Rumak stepped away from the blade and looked at Maya with darkness in his eyes. He is the one who raised me, I am what he made me to be.

“I… I need to be alone.” Maya said with shaky words, putting her blade down and walking away.

    -

Maya sat there in the darkness, under the stars, listening to the river running close by. She didn’t cry, Jonk’s death wasn’t worth her tears and she couldn’t even tell if she was sad or not. What should I do with my life? Where should I go? Raymun was her king, of course, but was he truly leading the Free Folk to freedom? Or was this just another useless war between the clans? Do I really want to follow him? Maya wasn’t sure if she really wanted to have a king. And then there was the man who had killed Torgon. Whoever he was, he was still alive, somewhere. But Maya had to admit herself she might never find that man. She looked at the distant stars in the sky. Where should I go?

“Hi, you look lonely.” A carefree voice of a young girl said behind Maya.

“And who are you?” Maya asked as she looked at the beautiful young Hornfoot girl. The girl’s playful smile seemed familiar.

“Don’t you remember? I’m Alexia. I welcomed you here when you and Rumak arrived.” The girl explained.

“Oh, yeah, now I remember.” Maya said with tired tone. “What do you want?”

“I just thought you’d like some company… I think we two are very much alike.” The girl said with her cheerful tone.

“I don’t think so.” Maya answered coldly, but Alexia’s smile seemed to be impossible to turn down.

“Well, we have our differences of course, but we are both strong women.” Alexia said, and as Maya didn’t answer, she kept speaking. “I heard what happened earlier, and I also know you were there to kill Jonk. That was a bold decision, I have to say.” Maya couldn’t tell what this girl tried to say.

“Shame some Thenn did the job for me.”

“Hah, if you would have killed Jonk, there would have been many in this camp who would have gladly killed you. Including the king.” Alexia’s words were hard, but she still had her smile on. “So, Maya, now that we were so lucky that you still are alive, I would like to ask you something.”

“Go ahead girl.” Maya said with a sigh.

“The king has given me a mission to go to the Frostfangs and find a man called Ivan Longbeard.” Alexia started. “Ivan used to be leader of the crows, he knows much about them… Their strengths, their weaknesses. Terry Snowflake is coming with me, he knows the mountains well. I would like to know Maya, would you like to come with us?” Maya turned and looked at Alexia, who finally had a serious look on her face.
