Point of Sarita?
I mean her and Reggie were probably the two most pointless characters in the series. I mean am I really going to remember a thing they said in Season 3?

Nope.
Kenny had to lose SOMEONE, right? Why not repeat what happened in Season 1?
I can feel the bitterness.
They leaned on Season 1 throughout Season 2
Reggie: There so Carver can kill someone that isn't apart of the main cast.
Sarita: There so Kenny can lose someone else he loves because Telltale are evil.
So she could add some run time to the game and have a cliffhanger to episode 3 without sacrificing anyone too important.
Was that really her only purpose?
She was there to be Kenny's new piece of character pussy so that he'd seem stable enough to actually attract any woman. I guess being continuously hateful and bitter gets some women off apparently.
She was, in reality, nothing.
I thought she was pretty cool, but I can't really think about too much else about her.
I agree she (and several other characters) could've had more screen time and more use to the plot, but in this case I wouldn't exactly say she was entirely useless. She was around to give Kenny something to lose that would make him go downhill throughout the rest of the Season. Her death was supposed to bring character development for Kenny in how he coped. Still, as I said, I agree she needed more screen time - especially in Episode 4 if you cut her hand off.
Introducing Sarita, or "Katjaa 2.0" - Now without the character depth!
She is pointless. They just made her character and kill her off so Kenny can go mad on Clementine and rage everytime.
I smell an awful lot of salt in this thread.
None, she literally only existed to give Kenny more grief. Just like how Reggie was an excuse to show how nuts Carver was.
You salty, bruh?
I actually did like Sarita, i just wish more had been done with her
To fill the "ethnicity quotient" when they really didn't have memorable roles at all, especially Sarita. I mean, you know it's a mess when people make threads asking "what's the point of these characters." I feel awful for Sarita; she could've been so much more but instead you could've replaced her with any woman at all who was generally "nice" and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Though I think there's something that's very much overlooked when it comes to Sarita. At first I was going to say that Sarita was basically Kenny's "damsel in distress" (and she was) though Kenny of course wasn't able to save her when she was bitten. Conversely though, don't forget--she saved Kenny when they met, suggesting Kenny was Sarita's "damsel." She says, "When I met him, he couldn't lift a fly," suggesting he was weak or seemed harmless. Given the fact that we left Kenny in season 1 and it was implied that he was being suicidal (by sacrificing himself to get Christa or Ben) he obviously wasn't in a great place when they met. Sarita says, "You should've seen Kenny's beard then," suggesting Kenny wasn't quite keeping himself well-groomed, and wasn't really taking care of himself, which can happen with depression. So I picture Sarita finding Kenny in a diner (I think they said diner) and taking care of him until he was back to strength. This picture of Sarita being Kenny's savior is cemented when Sarita says it herself, when Kenny kills Carver: "That's not the Kenny I know in there...I wish...I thought I could save him." But when Kenny kills Carver, she mourns that she's not able to save him.
Kenny by contrast trying to save Sarita of course epically fails, as she gets bitten and dies soon after. I have to bring up a revised line of Jane's: one of her cut lines is, "Where were you when Sarita got bit, Kenny?" which differed from the line in the game, "Where were you when Sarita died Kenny?" which is a shame, because the first line makes much more sense to ask. Where the heck was Kenny when Sarita got bit? You'd think in that herd, he'd stick to her like Carlos was trying to stick to Sarah. Even in the ensuing chaos, you'd think he'd try to stick close to her. Anyway, the result of all this is rather sad: Sarita tried to save Kenny but she couldn't really, and Kenny tried to save Sarita but he couldn't really. Two lovers tried to save each other, but they failed....And it'd be even more tragic if we actually knew a bit more about Sarita and if I actually gave a hoot about Kenny.
In addition, she had another purpose, which again had to do with Kenny. Sarita was arguably Kenny's biggest supporter, however as the season progresses, her loyalty to him is shown to be wavering. It's telling that Kenny's canonically biggest supporter is having these doubts about him, and this helps set up the choice at the end of ep 5. It's through her that we first start to get a hint at how violent Kenny can become. For example, she had asked Clem if Kenny is the same as he used to be because she says that "he has his good days and bad days like everybody else, but lately he's been...struggling." Sarita is especially disheartened when Kenny kills Carver, saying that "I thought I could save him" line, which is her last proper line. And once she utters those words, the story gives her nothing more important to say [[about Kenny]]; her arc is brought to a close, and her fate is sealed--she's killed off soon after that. RIP Sarita.
Yes she was just there as a plot point for Kenny. We all knew from the start she would die at some point. Kenny isn't always hateful or bitter about everything though but certain people who hate him should understand why hes angry a lot after everything he's been through
The saddest thing about Sarita is how she was said to have rescued Kenny from his near death situation back near the end of S1:E5, and have been watching out for him ever since he was on his road to recovery for around two years.
And then Kenny and the writers forgets about her by the end of S2:E5 after her death an episode earlier.
Don't you mean Mark2.0 and Katjaa2.0?
You knew she would die from the beginning? Why on earth would you assume that?
That's not fair. Sarita disapproved of Kenny's violent ways from the start, and she never approved of him being hateful or bitter either. When Kenny gets angry at Troy for calling her an "Indian lady, " Sarita dispels Kenny's hate and anger immediately, saying, "It's fine, I am Indian." She protested when he went to kill Carver as well, and said that that Kenny wasn't the Kenny she knew.
I thought she was there because she was intended to show us Kenny isn't over Katjaa and is trying to replace her.
Because of this trope: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StuffedIntoTheFridge
It was pretty predictable that the writers would kill off Sarita to fuel Kenny's angst, especially since she had no character other than being Kenny's girlfriend.
She was a weak character who had no chemistry with Kenny, no interests that matched his, no nothing. She was literally dropped into the game to repeat the same story arc he had already gone through twice.
And her being nice and affable is more so a argument against your point considering that she doesn't even have the same qualities he has, so why was she romantically involved with some backwater southern hick with violent tendencies? To give him something to lose... again.
He was just to show how "cruel" Carver could be.
Cheap shock value.
I wasn't disagreeing with you on any of this. I don't know what made you think I was. I was specifically disagreeing with you on how you're suggesting that Sarita tolerates Kenny's hatefulness and bitterness when nothing in the game ever indicated that she did. Every time Kenny was being an ass, she called him out on it, and she did not support him when he was being violent. She wanted to save the post-season 1 Kenny because she probably believed all human beings deserve another chance; she wanted to reform him. But she ultimately failed, and Kenny is still an asshole.
Actually, this line isn't cut. They're both used, depending on whether or not you cut her arm off.
If you cut it off, she'll say "Where were you when Sarita died?"
If you killed the walker, she'll say "Where were you when Sarita got bit?"
Also, as a defense to Kenny, the two of them did start out walking right next to one another. But after Carlos gets shot and chaos ensues, you can hear Sarita asking for Kenny's help, with him replying that he can't get to her, which seems to imply the obvious: they got separated by walkers. Considering that they're wading through a giant herd of walkers that are all jam-packed together, all it would take is a couple of them walking in front of you at the right moment to completely cut you off from someone else, and make it near impossible to get back to them easily, at least not without drawing attention.
Of course you could argue that you could get around this by holding hands, but at the same time that would make things just as difficult because you'd have one less free hand. What if you need to push one of them away from you, or block one of them? What happens if one of them blocks the two of you like a telephone post? What if you end up having to attack a couple of them? All of those are situations that are made more difficult if you're holding someone's hand at the time, and ones that require you to let go at some point, which could just as well cause you to get separated from each other. There's no winning strategy here, other than staying calm and hoping for the best.
Sarita was to make people feel sorry for kenny IMO, Poor Kenny, loses his girlfriend again.
Does not care.
I didn't know that. My mistake. I still think it would make more sense if Jane had asked in both situations "Where were you when Sarita got bit?" though, especially if Jane had actually witnessed Kenny actually being there if Sarita died in the herd. But then she might not have actually witnessed it, and was just spewing hateful comments at Kenny to "build up" to the final conflict (even though that argument in the car was really forced imo.)
Well Sarita would know all about having one less free hand, wouldn't she?
...
...okay, bad joke. xp
The Salt Is Here.
Fair enough.
Although, my original point stands. She was a worthless addition to Kenny's character arc.
Questions like this are really kinda stupid to ask. Not every single character needs to serve a super elaborate purpose. Those characters are what you call filler. This isn't some ensemble movie like the avengers. Only one character truly has a "point" in this game, the protagonist.
The Walking Dead revolves around its characters though, and each character should be unique, or at least more than just a plot device in order to be good. Using Sarita felt very much a carbon copy of Katjaa as we saw Kenny descend into depression again, just like we saw in Season 1. It just feels very uninspired and lazy to go that way again.
Sure there are some "filler" characters. Season 1 had those as well, but they were used in unique purposes to cause growth in it's central characters or to advance the plot while still developing characters
Example: Chuck convinced Lee that Clementine had to adapt in order to survive in the new world.
Example - Larry's death causes either Kenny or Lilly to distrust you, in one of the most controversial scenes of Season 1.
Example - Mark was used as a victim of the St. Johns and to confirm our suspicions that the St. Johns weren't as good as they seemed to be - Something the writers repeated in Season 2 with Reggie.
Example - Katjaa was used as a means to cause Kenny's depression - Something we've already seen, so why do it again with Sarita?
The point is that Sarita was an uninspired character. Was there potential for something greater? Sure there was, but why attempt to develop a new character when there's already Kenny? We can just let him repeat his Season 1 arc all over again! 11/10.
▲▲▲▲▲This person gets it even if some characters were plot devices they at least served their purpose and remained somewhat interesting
Saritia's only purpose was to further Kenny's development.
I wish they had done more with her.
How do they have someone to make you feel sorry for Kenny, then have Kenny do atrocious things? I dont understand his purpose, let alone Sarita's.
