GAME WON'T START (PS3 - Black Screen)

  • Agreed, of course.

    No, Telltale should fix it.

  • Okay, here's a more helpful comment than the one I left yesterday.

When episode 4 came out along with one of the updates (I think it was 1.07), I got the black screen after I installed all of that. I was able to play episode 4 after I only deleted the game from my list (not my save files), and then waited patiently for everything to re-download. I did not reinstall the update, however. It worked fine, there were a LOT of glitches and stuttering, but I got through the episode.

I have not touched the game since then, I had not installed update 1.08 because I was too afraid to do all that over again.

I go to play it yesterday, and I get the goddamn black screen. So I installed the update, still get the black screen. All I fucking did was try to play it. What gives, TellTale?

  • Why do I have the feeling that it won't come, ever?

Why do I have the feeling the solution won't come until after the final episode is released?

  • Have you tried to delete the game and then ONLY to re-install the 1st and 5th episode? Worked for me and two other PS3-players even with the newest update (1.08 i think) and without losing my saves. I posted all the steps yesterday.

  • I'm in the same boat. When I first downloaded Episode 5, and it worked. When I tried to load the game, black screen. I deleted the game, and downloaded 1st and 5th episode, but it still doesn't work. This fucking sucks. I'm so glad Telltale wants us to be patient while we wait to play a game we paid for. I'm sure they won't spend the money we gave them until they fix the problem.

  • Thread: PS3, game wont load

    Hey all,

The game stopped loading. I have all the episodes installed and now when I go to load it on my PS3 I only get this black screen and have to manually restart my PS3 because the PS button wont even pull up the menu to exit. Any suggestions?

  • I'm having the exact same problem. I've deleted the game and I'm redownloading and reinstalling everything again, so I'll let you know if that fixes it.

  • Just did the same thing. Installing episode 2

I'm having the exact same problem. I've deleted the game and I'm redownloading and reinstalling everything again, so I'll let you know if that fixes it.

  • It's an absolute joke! Should be fixed by now.

  • It didn't help at all. The exact same thing happened. What gives?

  • Okay, so i deleted my saved files and it worked! I was playing the game last night just fine. I stopped playing near the end of episode 4, i went to play now and there's my old friend Black Screen. How does that happened? The game was working perfectly yesterday (with a few frame drops), and now it doesn't!

  • Yea, same thing. It wont load. I downloaded a small update. But that didn't help

  • Is your save file corrupted? It might be worth deleting your current save and starting the game again. I had this same problem and once I deleted my save file, the worked fine

  • Well I tried almost everything:

    • Uninstall the whole game
    • Install episode 1 and episode 5 from PS store
    • Disable internet connexion to prevent game update
    • Launch the game
    • Black screen...

    OR

    • Uninstall the whole game
    • Install episode 1 and episode 5 from PS store
    • Launch the game (it works), the game updates to 1.08
    • Change my savegame slot to an empty one
    • Relaunch the game
    • Go to episodes menu and load episode 5
    • The game reloads and ... oops Black screen...

    OR

    • Uninstall the whole game
    • Install episode 1 and episode 5 from PS store
    • Launch the game (it works), the game updates to 1.08
    • Change my savegame slot to an empty one
    • Install episode 5 from PS store
    • Launch the game... Eeeeek black screen

I had this fu.... BS problem for episode 3 and 4, but every time I managed to find a way to play by reinstalling the game and the new episode only. But not this time. Everything I do ends with that black screen.

I love this game but I must admit that Telltale sucks on this one. I can't remind a more disastrous experience with a game...

  • Thread: PS3 issues - Black screen crash Episode 5

I downloaded GOT episode 5 today and tried to play, but all I get is a black screen. I couldn't even play the previous episodes if I wanted to because I can't even make it to the menu. After having to restart my ps3 a few times , I installed the update and there has been no change. :(
I also tried reinstalling the episode.

I played through every other episode shortly after they were released. I do remember encountering a bug after completing episode 4 though. After I watched the credits, I waited to see the "My choices" screen where you can compare what you did with others online, but that never came up, and I couldn't access my choices from episode 4 from the main menu either. I could only see my choices from episodes 1-3. It wasn't that big of a deal to me, but maybe that has something to do with why I can't play GOT at all now?

  • Same her black screen of death. Just like the last update. This is the only Telltale game that it does this with me. I played it fine last night went threw the whole game, today? It won't even open.

  • I did all that, and it started up at least. But when I started episode 5, it stuttered and froze in the Previously On segments (still waiting to sreceive if it will go on; doesn't appear to be). I have not installed the update.

So yes, I still have yet to play episode 5.

  • Guys! I figured it out! Go to the save data utility for the PS3. Delete the saved game file and it works. Only good if you wanted to start a new game. But yea, it's running for me now

  • Additional info: Downloaded in US (PST), episodes have been downloaded individually (no season pass)

  • Today I've installed episode 5 and the whole GOT will not lunch anymore - just black screen. Deleting my saved games is not an option. Is there a chance this can be fixed by update from TTG?

  • Maybe you should update the game now. It worked for me and the stuttering and freezing is probably caused because you didnt update.

I did all that, and it started up at least. But when I started episode 5, it stuttered and froze in the Previously On segments (still waiti

  • Did everything above and still a black screen!!

  • Deleting and reinstalling the game used to work, but since episode 5 came out I only get the black screen of death.

I'm honestly pissed off and want a refund. I haven't been able to play the game for weeks because it's so troublesome and now, when there finally is a new episode and update I can't even start the game without completely disabling my PS3..

  • Great news! Thank you! We've been missing this game for 4 months (as you already know), so it will be fun to have a couple of episodes to look forward to. :) @Boagarius Will check now, thanks!

  • There's no reason whatsoever it should have taken you this long to come to this point. None at all. I'm afraid we need more than "don't delete your save files" Should we expect the solution in one week? Two weeks? More? If you can't even answer that for me today, then I'm asking for a refund.

  • I will never buy another telltale game season pass at full price and never until the entire game has been released.

  • Have to say this is beyond awful. I purchased the Season Pass back in December, committing to this game and to this product, and you have the gall to treat the people who are keeping you paid by purchasing your ill-developed crap like this? It's completely unacceptable now.

From Episode 1, each release has been plagued with bugs and errors, from audio-lag issues which play dialogue sometimes minutes after the relevant scene has taken place, or dialogue being non-existant so I'm left with silent characters and having to read the subtitles, to graphical errors, lag that occurs in input-heavy scenes like in Episode 2 where we first get to play as Asher, the whole thing is just a mess. And now you've released something that locks me out of the game completely? You guys really need to work on your dev skills, and your PR at that.

The least you could do is offer all users who have been hindered by these problems some sort of bonus, like a code for an episode of one of your other games or something, as a gesture of good will. Right now you're a laughing stock of a company, and I'm sure HBO and the Game of Thrones staff don't want a shoddy product tarnishing their name. You need to make this right and you need to do it now, and keep the community informed of your efforts.

  • That' what I did too. Still nothing.

I got it working by downloading only episodes 1 and 5.

  • Same problem here.
    Still wating

  • Quick question why are making yet another game (or dlc whichever it is) when this one is so broken, it makes me feel like i've been played and that you have taken my money and ran

  • Seriously, TelltaleMike, you've found the root cause of the issue now... Is this the same issue that caused the black screens and frozen games when episode 4 was released months ago?
There's two answers: it's the same issue, or it's a new issue.
If it's the same issue, then Telltale is a company that cannot get a serious issue fixed when given 2 months to do so.
If it's a new issue, then Telltale is a company that lets serious issues be released to customers twice in a row.

Either way guys, you look like crud! If I ever get to play episode 5, and if Episode 6 ever arrives, then it's likely to be the last thing by Telltale I ever bother buying. I'm also going to send a few emails over to HBO telling them how some crummy game company is making a joke out of their flagship product. I'm glad the finale to Season 5 didn't crash my PVR when it broadcast...!

Ya same problem here. Just found out Ep 5 was released and was super excited to play but all I just get the black screen when I try to play.

  • It's been over 24 hours and no response. I've finally had enough. I demand a refund since you've sold me a broken product that you've refused to fix. I don't care anymore that you say you've found the solution, you've taken so long to get to it and your declaration so vague, I'm done. You're out of any sort of excuse. You've refused to fix it in anywhere near a reasonable amount of time and I will tell EVERY gamer I know not to buy from your company. You make excellent games, but this is wrong. There's a word for selling someone a broken product and then refusing to fix it. It legally may be defined differently, but I call it THEFT. Return my money for the COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY NON FUNCTIONAL product I bought from you.
