Since my above post last week, I did delete and re-install again. These reports of being able to start the game after a fresh re-install don't "resolve" anything. Being able to start the game, and being able to continue playing current chapters are two different things. Just because the game starts and you can see your old save games, does not mean you will be able to continue playing.
As far as I can tell the only way to load an old game is to do a full delete/install (keeping save game files) and always start the game while signed out of PSN network and the internet. If at anytime you make the easy mistake of trying to start the game while connected to the internet, it will corrupt the game and you will have to delete it entirely, and once again download/install the chapters.
We are still investigating further into the issue at this time, but I hope to have more information on the issue soon. We have had reports t… morehat affected players were able to resolve this issue by deleting the game from their console, and re-downloading it (and the episodes + update) from the Playstation Store. (Please note that deleting the game content will not effect your save files on PS3, as your save files are stored inside your Save Data Utility folder)
I appreciate you all looking into this for us, but we shouldn't have to delete the game files and reinstall them to get a game we paid for to work, and even so, in my case at least it only works once and when you exit the game it's back to the black screen of death. It's been over three months we've had this issue so I'm hopeful you'll get it sorted sooner rather than later.
Thanks for giving us an update Mike. Deleting the game and redownloading everything (but keeping the save files) was one of the first things I tried and it didn't work. The only real fix is deleting the save files or not downloading the updates. In my forced replay this time I've kept everything to one save file as I have heard that might work. We'll find out when episode 5 comes out.

I second that deleting and redownloading only work once. Shut the game off and restarting result in the same problem.
The fact that it's taken this long to fix is completely unacceptable. You have a massive amount of people who paid money to play the game and are unable to due to your faulty programming. Your priority now is to make sure that the people get what they paid for, not cranking out more game that a good portion of your customers are unable to play. If this issue is not resolved by the time the next episode is released, I will be demanding a refund, no longer purchasing your products and warning all of my friends away from your company.

Images of next episode is out.. So, the episode is coming out on two weeks top. I hope it will be fixed by then. If not, I'm sorry, but I will never make the mistake of buying the games again. And I buy a lot of them, both seasons of TWD, TWAU, TFTB and freaking GOT. Please, fix the damn blackscreen. Not all of us have the money to buy a PS4
Mike, can we hope for a resolution when the next episode comes out ?
Also deleting the game does not work for everyone. Please find a solution or refund our money.
Thank you

Its definitely an issue with the save files themselves. I have played with my internet being completely disabled, preventing any of the updates. I was able to play consistently until I finished episode three on my second play through with the internet being completely disabled on my system. It gave me a black screen and I was quite annoyed because I finally thought I had figured it out. However, I deleted my saved data, and went back into it and it loaded up just fine. I did not have to waste time downloading the episodes again. So if you keep just one save file, and have your internet disabled, you should be able to play pretty consistently. I hope this helps you guys at Telltale narrow down a solution somewhat.
I would encourage all of my fellow players to follow the "vote with your dollar" style. Glitchy games happen, I understand that and would never begrudge a company for having an issue with complex programming. However, a game disabling bug that is triggered merely by the use of multiple save files, a feature readily available through legal use of the game? That's pretty wretched, but I can forgive even that. The complete lack of any sort of resolution or even updates for months on end despite the programmers having EXCELLENT information as to the trigger of said glitch that leaves people with money spent on something completely unusable, that I cannot forgive. I understand it's an excellent game, it really is, but.... The company needs money. If they aren't going to provide what was promised, why should we let them keep our money? We've all given them enough time and I don't think I'm unreasonable in saying they've completed enough of the story so far where it's time to put a slight hold on developing if need be and fix the issue that has left us players what essentially amounts to us being robbed of our money. If they'd done what a decent company, much less decent people, should do, they'd have a solution or at the very least be on the very tip of one anyway. It's time to prioritize the customer. I won't let you keep my money while refusing to provide me with a functional version of what I gave you my money for. I invite all fellow players to join me. Realize that it is not us at the mercy of their programming schedules, it is this company at the mercy of us and where we decide to share the contents of our wallets. Without us, the company goes bankrupt. We all have more power than we realize. Isn't that such a lovely, empowering thought? Telltale, you have until the release of episode 5
Boycotting, the company would be a great idea, but unfortunately there are too many fanboys of telltale (Especially on these forums) who will literally buy anything they make, because "Hurr it's telltale so it must be good!"

I bought the season pass and the game worked fine at first. I got to episode four and stopped. When I tried to play the next day, the game wouldn't start up anymore. I would pick 'start' and it would stay in a black screen but never start. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work. I'm just feeling frustrated because I bought the season pass. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
We need to start a thread about this on the actual Game of Thrones community forums so that more people will know about this glitch and the horrible customer service telltale provides. It really seems like every single person on those forums are completely clueless about this.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Can you please clarify what platform you are playing the game on? (PC/Mac/PS3/Xbox/iOS/Android?) If you are on a mobile device, can you please clarify which device, and what OS version you are running? Also, if you are on PC/Mac, can you please clarify if you are playing the Telltale Games version, or the Steam version? After we receive this information, we will be able to assist you further.
I've had this problem since 4 months. 4. FUCKING. MONTHS. I think I have been very patient waiting for Telltale to fix this shit, but at this point I am extremely pissed off.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a refund?
Yeah right. We payed for a game we can't play and Telltale is not gonna do shit about it. I've been robbed, and there's no way Telltale would refund our psn money.

I downloaded episode 4 twice, but it freezes on a black screen when I go to start it. It's crashed my PS3 several times now. I saw that other people were having the same problem but I did not see the solution for PS3. Any assistance you can provide is extremely appreciated.

a while ago i decided to delete my save files and not download the update and it worked. i played through all the episodes again.
...and now i downloaded episode 5. it didn't work so i deleted my files again. it worked until i started ep 5. it froze at the previously screen and with it the whole console.
Yeah a similar thing is happening to me now. Having felt pure relief over getting through the black screen (after deleting all game data and reinstalling without downloading the update), I then fall at the final hurdle as the game freezes during the previously on section. It is one problem piled on top of another.

So Ep5 just came out and I want to download it, but every time I try to access the game, I get a black screen. I've seen this is a common issue but haven't found a proper answer, can anyone tell me a way to fix it, if it's possible.
What platform are you experiencing this on? I am unable to help with technical issues but i can move this thread to the correct support section where a Telltale staff member will hopefully be able to assist you further.

Having the same problem, on the PlayStation3. It was like this awhile ago but I thought it'd fix itself, now that the new episode has been released, I would really like to play the game I payed for.
I'm also on PS3 and I guess I was lucky enough that I was able to play the episode, but then later I wanted to replay it and do some different choices and what do I see... A black screen... And I cant exit to menu, I cant do absolutely anything except turn off the console... I dont know who's fault it is, Telltale's or whoever's but i'd like if it was fixed...

About the black screen, so many people are having the same problem and each time you just ask which platform we're using. Well, I'm using a PlayStation3 I live in the United States please fix this problem. I want to play the game I payed for. Thank you.
Holy s***t, they moved all my comments on other threads to this thread, I'm sorry if you're getting blown up now, I guess Telltale doesn't want me calling them out.
Right same for me. This happened the last time I played it and I had to reinstall everything. Am I going to have to reinstall everything every time I want to play this game? Seems like this should have been fixed months ago.
I have the exact same problem, guys. Played just fine (for episodes 1-4), until I downloaded episode 5 today, installed it, but after that, when I tried to launch the game, there it goes, the black screen. I' am on PS3.
Just deleted and reinstalled everything... still black screen... hoped buying ep5 would solve my problem but nothing changed. Waiting for months now want my money back...

Yeah... I redownloaded and installed the first 3 episodes and restarted my ps3 to make sure the game would even work. It started up so I downloaded episode 4 and when I pressed accept on the episodes menu for episode four and was 'returned to the main menu' well... It returned me to the black screen.

So apparently Xbox somehow winds up getting the new episode early and here we are with the black screen of death four months later...
