  • I thought it was just me as I tried to play last night and then again tonight and thought I would check to see if anyone else had this black screen issue. Well wow go the weekend off saw that ep5 was out got excited and now this. Is there an eta on when this will be fixed?

    Telltale Games. At least have the god damn decency to answer your PAYING customers.
    The worst thing is not that there never seems to be a solution for this, it's the lack of communication from your part.
    This has been a major problem with the black screen since the release of Episode 4 (and even before with some update) so it's hardly any news for you. I think i must have re-installed GoT on my PS3 for like 20 times now just to be able to play. That's so wrong I can hardly explain.
    I don't wish for any kind of refund - what i wish for though is for you to answer people who pass earned money to your company to fix this.
    You should have fixed this for like 3 months ago.. and something tells me it won't be fixed for 3 months yet.
    Its amazingly arrogant.. and i'm not even mentioning delays, synch and audio problems.

    Edit: To be clear, I'm not able to play Episode 5 at all. I have tried every solution mentioned but every time it asks to return to main menu after the episode has been installed the game freezes and after that it's black screen forever and ever and.. you get the point!

  • Also having this problem (black screen). Tales of Borderlands also having it now (dunno what started it but saw only after installing ep 5 of GoT and update on my ps3)

  • Since deleting my saved games, and getting the latest update, 1.08 I've had no issues. the game has started
    for me no problem for the past 3 days. I'm starting a second save file to see if the black screen happens again.

  • The same thing happend to me as well; Installed GoT episode 5 and the screen would go black. I deleted the game and downloaded episodes 1 and 5. It started working again, but I can't get past the intro ("Previously on GoT"). First the sound stops working (dialouge) and then the game freezes (Just like the black screen, but instead of black I see Cotter and Gared).. I'm getting pissed off.. I hope you guys fix this asap....

  • Some people have been having this issue since episode 3. Apparently they just now believe they've discovered the cause, but there's no fix yet.

  • Took my money, didn't give me a game. That's criminal. I thought Telltale was a better company than that.

    I think I will be demanding a refund from PSN. I suggest you all do the same.

    If money is all that matters to Telltale, maybe a sudden loss of revenue will get their attention.

    Good luck with that! PSN are infamous for never refunding... God knows it took me a look time to finally get them to comply.

  • Still nothing. My other Telltale games all work. It's just GoT's that isn't working.

  • Yep, Episode 5 wont work for me just like with Episode 4. I'll give it a few more days to be fixed and if not then I will never buy another Telltale product. Too bad, I heard the Walking Dead games were pretty good and I was planning on trying them out when finished with Game of Thrones. I suppose I will just have to watch them on YouTube for free.

    I had trouble with episode 4 when all i got was a blank screen. Solution, reinstall the game without the patch. Now in episode 5, all i'm getting is nothing but a blank screen with or without the patch. Is there a solution coming? If not, please refund my purchase.

  • I played about half an hour of episode five last night before just putting it on now to continue, and guess what? BLACK SCREEN! It's not enough that I have to use my poor old dying PS3 because there's no cross platform capabilities (seriously! You release an episodic game series in a time when literally thousands of people are upgrading consoles, and don't make the season pass compatible? Atrocious, but I digress), now it's just flat out not working! It's frozen the whole system and I have to reset manually. Just how many people actually work at Telltale? This feels like it's run out of a garage at times...

    Seems that many are having this same problem. I tried launching the game before I downloaded the latest episode (I have a season pass) and had a black screen that forced a manual restart. When through the Playstation Store, downloaded and installed the game successfully and then tried to go into the game again... and nothing, same thing. :( When are they going to fix this issue? Where is this "potential solution"?

  • This is true for ps3. You have to delete your saved files if you have the black screen otherwise it won't work at all.

  • After playing for a bit, I've changed my mind regarding the source of this issue. I now believe that the problem lies in having multiple saves.

    This is due to my game starting up with no problems when I'm playing the game with only one save, but once I start up a second save, leave, and then return, that seems to be when the problem starts. This is also evident by the fact that the only current way to fix this bug is to delete the file containing your saves.

    How many other people experiencing this had more than one save on their game?

  • @TelltaleMike Has the solution been tested yet? I don't know anything about building games, so I don't know how long it would take to do that. Is it possible to estimate a date for when the fix will become available to us?

    Update Version 1.09 is now live in North America! Please make sure that you start the game while connected to the internet and logged into your PSN Profile, and you should receive the alert to update your game to the latest version. After you have updated the game, it will restart to install the update and you should then be able to successfully reach the main menu and continue playing!

    Please note that the European region (EU) should be getting the update soon. When I receive any new information to provide, I will make sure to update this thread.

    THANK YOU!!! We're playing it now. Seems to be fine. It takes a bit to load scenes, but it's playable! Thank you! *Edit: We're even noticing smoother game play, in fact.
