I left Asher behind. Because it was the last thing I wanted to do! I'm not a huge fan of Rodrik or, more precisely, playing as Rodrik. I found it frustrating. Yet I feel he will make the better lord. Asher is a good leader, but more like a motivator rather than a politician. I find when playing Telltale games that whenever I make what I feel is a "bad" choice, it seems to be the better choice in the end. Fingers crossed.... Pretty gutted. That was a heart wrenching scene.
I left Asher too. For the following reasons:
1. The main reason: Rodrik had already died, can't do that to him again.
2. With Asher dead Gwyn would confront her father more openly (I hope).
3. The people at Ironrath can't have the new lord again, and the one from Essos is really hard to assimilate.
4. Elaena has lost more than Gwyn.
I chose them both. I play on 2 saves, so I will see how differently the story will end. Personally I like Asher more, his character is a sarcastic badass (like me) but he's a big softie inside. Rodrik just seems tired and a drag sometimes.
i left asher to stay even thu it's his family too i don't think it's his fight he didn't feel or see what happened i also want to honor rodrik he went through so much and he finally can walk again and he have the fire in his heart since the day he came back, asher was a bad boy to me he and beshka kill for fun that wasn't a lord to me a lord is someone like rodrik very kind yet smart. also i don't want to give the land a new lord again, rodrik must redeem himself now and his family and thalia was counting on her big brother. i won't give the whithill's the joy of rodrik's death and let's not forget that asher doesn't even want to be a lord he said it himself and he only have his best friend but rodrik have everything and everyone. and i believe beshka is coming for blood now and she will destroy the whitehills for her best friend she will be a beast. it was the right choice
Well said, I had a similar experience of leaving Asher and rewinding. I actually thought that I was choosing to leave Asher at the wheel while Rodrik went to fight the soldiers. I sort of feel like I'm cheating but leaving Rodrik just made sense for my story. The whole season has been us waiting for Asher to return and destroy the Whitehills. For me, Rodrik was broken and it made sense for him to sacrifice himself.
Also, how do you think the marriage with Gwyn will go if you eliminate her father, brother, and soldiers?
When I was playing ep. 5 for the first time I chose Asher to stay behind - and I think it's one of those few times when I'm going to rewind … moreand change a really major decision in telltale's game. Point is, when I was choosing between them, I didn't do it the right way, my way of thinking was wrong and I understand it now. I was choosing between them as if they were non-playable characters and I had to decide which one I like more. I've played both of them as nice, calm, sensible and merciful guys, but it always felt, that no matter what I do as either of them, Rodrick fits that description better, that there is something about Asher, that I just can not control. But later I've been thinking a lot, and I realized one simple truth - both Rodrick and Asher are me. I can decide the way their personalities will develop. Every decision they make is my decision. I am in control if them both and nothing can change that. Game won't force me into choosi… [view original content]
He's actually my favourite brother. I agonized over that choice. Rodrik was my favourite character...but I dunno, somehow it felt more fitting for Asher to make it out? He has the loyalty of the bulk of the Forrester army now. Rodrik the Ruined kept the house standing until Asher arrived, who is probably the type of leader house Forrester needs now. Someone completely and utterly without mercy. Rodrik dies so that can happen.
I don't really think, that Forresters have enough power to eliminate anybody right now. In my opinion, they'll be lucky as hell just to survive all this shit. Also, I have a really strong feeling, that the last episode will be... Well, let's just say, not what most of players expect it to be. That's as much as I can say about my predictions without anyone accusing me of being sick in head or trolling.
Well said, I had a similar experience of leaving Asher and rewinding. I actually thought that I was choosing to leave Asher at the wheel whi… morele Rodrik went to fight the soldiers. I sort of feel like I'm cheating but leaving Rodrik just made sense for my story. The whole season has been us waiting for Asher to return and destroy the Whitehills. For me, Rodrik was broken and it made sense for him to sacrifice himself.

I like Rodrick, but he's a liability. He gave what he could in the final fight but he's not capable of being a front line combatant and as Ramsay Snow has declared only one house will be left standing, I wanted my best shot of winning this.
Asher has leadership qualities and he's likely the only one the Pit Fighters are going to respect or fight for. Rodrick has skills but he's not going to be able to best their best to gain their respect. So for them to remain in play effectively, Asher needs to survive. For the house to survive, they need soldiers.
While the loss in terms of an alliance through marriage to Elaena is unfortunate, it would never have been a factor. Snow has already stated (like we can trust him, but its our best chance) its 'Last House Standing' and so the alliance is only available after we win and I can not be assured that we would with Rodrick down a few more loyal Forrester soldiers at the port AND likely losing the pit fighters as well.
So Asher needs to survive.
My thought as well is we subjugate the Whitehills, we beat them and we beat them by Asher marrying Gwen. Two houses become one house. Gwen and Asher have been in love, she has never chosen another, she'll marry him. Ludd loves his family, and I am certain he loves his daughter. If he has been given the same orders from Snow that one house remains, and he is well bested by Asher/House Forrester he would likely accept the marriage (before his own death) in order to protect his line in some way.
But Ludd will die, Gryf will die.. the Whitehills will pay.
I spent the whole game thinking about leaving Asher behind (even tho he's my favorite), cause I think Rodrik is more appropriate to be the lord (and I like Elaena more than Gwyn, etc), but when it came to make a choice I choose to leave Rodrik, it was my instinct.
Wow, some of these comments are just cold. Leaving Rodrik behind because he was a liability? Statically anylising who is more fit to save, really?
Well here's why I chose Rodrik to stay behind. I didn't "leave" him, I had him protecting his little brother. I didn't think about age when I was choosing, I remembered that Rodrik went there to save Asher. He wouldn't stand his brother giving his life for him. Also Rodrik just kinda accepted it. Like when he gave Asher that final smile. He went out like a bloody hero. And I think Asher will do his maximum best to avenge him.
Asher because it doesn't fucking matter which brother I choose. I bet with this level of writing this game will end with Asher or Rodrick eventually tripping on an ironwood branch and impaling themselves.
It just felt right for Rodrik to sacrifice himself, after all that he went through, to redeem himself as a man after the grave injuries crippled him for so long.
Well, in my original playthrough, I saved Rodrik because I felt like he was there in the beginning of the war and I think he has to finish it. Although, I actually made 2 save files because I couldn't say goodbye to Asher and Rodrik ;-;
Asher because it doesn't fucking matter which brother I choose. I bet with this level of writing this game will end with Asher or Rodrick eventually tripping on an ironwood branch and impaling themselves.
You all have it wrong - the King never sacrifices himself for another chess piece - Rodrik was Lord of Ironrath and needed to be kept alive for as long as possible, even if it meant sacrificing Asher (whom I guess was the Knight).
As it seems most (From what I have read) Had chosen Rodrik/Asher because they liked the other more. But here is my reasoning.
From the way I had played as Rodrik it was based around my family and saving them. So it only felt right for him to sacrafice himself. Also he had more reason to stay behind and "Give em Hell". I feel it was the hardest decision so far in the game. And maybe the hardest out of all the TTG games I have played (I only havent played TWD season 2). Rodrik was the greatest character I would say in terms of emotional attachment to decisions and such. So as I said it only felt right.
i stayed as rodrik and spared the traitor's life
wonder what asher's gonna do with him
and BTW... tragic scene watching rodrik get killed. i hate that i love game of thrones
I couldn't let Gryff gloat over Rodrik's corpse, as much as it pained me to let Asher die. Well.. I do have multiple play throughs saved. In three of the four I chose to have Rodrik live.
this whole thing came totally out of the blue for me.
so okey we went to the shore to help him. we got there first before the ambus.
then all of a sudden all the soldiers we have gathered just dies.and the big guy just dies.
and suddenly we are supposed to choose between them?!?!?!?
telltale this was a bad move.
this is the stuff in the tv show that i hate, where people suddenly just gets murdered for no real reason at all.
sigh.
this part of the game, this i give 1/10.
i dont even know what i will choose,i just here and think about whatever i will choose ..
I couldn't let Gryff gloat over Rodrik's corpse, as much as it pained me to let Asher die. Well.. I do have multiple play throughs saved. In three of the four I chose to have Rodrik live.

God I just want to flay the skin of people who spell it "Rodrick" while their family watch, then chop of a dire wolfs head and place it on the flayed miss-speller head and drop them in a river (sarcasm I don't give a f...).
I had two save files, so I was able to experience both of them living and dying. Ultimately I had to sacrifice Asher because Rodrik needed to stay on as ruler of Ironrath for however long that will be (haven't had a chance to play ep. 6 yet). While I preferred Asher's character as the more relatable of the two, I had to go with my head, not my heart, on this one.
Rodrik, being the eldest son of Gregor, was groomed for leadership so right off the bat the guy has the experience. I'd also be inclined to think Rodrik is the more moral/just of the brothers. All that time Asher spent chilling in the east as a sell sword has to mess with your moral compass at least a little bit. Also, I just highly doubted Asher wanted to be Lord of Ironrath at all. I mean he'd probably do it and not screw it up, but you just know all he really wants is to have fun adventures with Beskha.
So yeah, although I liked Asher more I had to think about what was good for Ironrath and its people. Rodrik seemed for fit for the job as lord. Plus, it feels a bit shitty for Rodrik's story to end there because of all this time he's spent fighting the Whitehills. Bro's got to see this thing to the end and earn his reward for all the awful stuff both him and his house have been through.
I chose Asher because Rodrick was crippled and he moves slow and I felt like Asher would be the better fighter long term and Asher is what the kingdom needed plus he has the respect of the pit fighters and he's younger and stronger and in a lot of scenes with Rodrick people were just like kicking his cane and he'd fall to the floor and stuff and I feel like Asher would have put up a fight he probably would have killed a lot of the people that Roderick couldn't and he has fighters behind him plus he needed to live because he has control of the army. But it was a hard decision because Roderick is leaving behind his fiance and family but his sister already hates him and his fiance's dad was never going to let them get married anyway and he lost respect for a lot of people so there's that too
Ascher survived. I though it was more Rordrik to sacrifize himself for lil brother. He was a guy who would do everything to protect his family.
It also it seems more consistent. Ascher have a lot of adventures to bring army. And when it did it would be stupid to just die. It is more fun to watch former mercenary strugging to be lord and responsible for House. With Roderik it is easy time, since he was born to it. It is more fun to watch character in unnatural surrounding, like Ethan as Lord or Mira in Kings Landing.
I chose Asher to stay. I hated the decision personally because it made no sense for me. I love being like I am in the game, I'm the main character, so how does this work? How can I choose will I sacrifice myself or will I sacrifice myself? Maybe that sounds stupid, and I probably am somewhat stupid, but that's just my opinion. As for why Asher? Because I see more myself in Rodrik than in Asher. If I were in this Game of Thrones world, I wouldn't be such an awesome fighter like Asher who seems to not be afraid of anything.

And someday I will flay some Boltons.
I left Rodrick, he is not physically fit to endure the coming battles while Asher would have the high chance to lead his family to victory.

I picked the one that survived fighting against a Dragon
I would choose to leave Rodrik behind because I like Asher better.
Not really a good reason but I choose favorites when it comes down to two characters.
Rodrik already made the love to Elaena and it would be wrong to deny Asher a shot a Gwyn.
Vaughn! Oh, wait...
