What do you think about...Jane?

In my opinion:

I was acctually begining to like her, after she taught Clem some new skills. But then it all went downhill from there. Amid the ruins was the turning point.

1: She makes Clem kill Nick (If you convince Walter, Nick is good)

2: She thinks Sarah is like Jamie (A lot of people hated Sarah, I know. But I liked her.) She wants to leave her behind a
twice (if you help her out of the woods)

3: The shouting in the car, about Kenny's family.

4: Aj, she leaves him in a car and wants to get Kenny killed just to prove a point.

  • I liked her before Telltale tried to make me. In episode 4 I felt like they were too quick to develop what was essentialy a new character. I get that they didn't exactly have buckets of screen time to split between characters, but I felt like it could have been done with more eloquence, or what you'd call it :p

Still, it didn't really make me dislike her but I just felt choked on her character in the end.

  • Jane's awesome, in my book.

  • Actually when you are prompted to grab her hand or tell her to save Sarah, if you choose the silent option she actually goes down to help Sarah.

  • Oh, thanks for telling me i didn't choose that option but thanks! :D

What do I think of beloved QueenJane? Well, she's the only perfect being in The Walking Dead.

1: She makes Clem kill Nick (If you convince Walter, Nick is good) 2: She thinks Sarah is like Jamie (A lot of people hated Sarah, I know. But I liked her.) She wants to leave her behind a twice (if you help her out of the woods) 3: The shouting in the car, about Kenny's family. 4: Aj, she leaves him in a car and wants to get Kenny killed just to prove a point.

Nick was annoying and useless in my opinion, so this wasn't bad to me.

Sarah was in many ways like Jamie, and Jane told no lies (my opinion) about how Sarah was a drag.

The shouting in the car? Well, Kenny is no victim here, he said some shit also.

Aj? And killing Kenny to prove a point? In my opinion the point she was trying to prove was very important about Kenny. And I didn't care about Aj, so I didnt really sympathize with that.

  • Nick, was her friend, it's the same reason why kenny didn't kill sarita or want to kill Duck. They cared, people have their own reasons, different from others!

But Nick was already dead. He was already a walker. You can't kill someone who's already dead.

Jane says, "If it comes to it, if Luke, or Sarah, or anybody needs to be put down, you have to be ready for it. No hesitation. You now that, right? " She thought it was best for Clem to take out walker-Nick because it's likely Clem will have to take out a walker who she once knew again, and it's likely it could be someone that was important to Clem. Jane was trying to emphasize that you can't hesitate for these things--if walker-Nick had not been caught on that fence and if he had come after Clem and if Clem'd hesitated because she knew Nick, Clem could've been dead. Jane was trying to show Clem that that's not an option if you want to survive. A walker is always dangerous, even if you knew them when they were alive.

Nick, was her friend, it's the same reason why kenny didn't kill sarita or want to kill Duck. They cared, people have their own reasons, different from others!

  • Honestly was my most hated character in the game. One of my least favorite video game characters ever. Most actions she took and any choice she made that has even the slightest bit of controversy, you can bet I hold an extreme anti-Jane opinion on them. Almost everything she did made me despise her more and more.

And I'm not even a Kenny fanboy! I shot Kenny, and was honestly glad I could finally get rid of him. But there was no chance in hell I wasn't going to watch him stab Jane first.

The one thing I agreed with Jane on was that Wellington was, in my opinion, a crazy plan. Then her replacement idea was "Let's go back to Howe's," and I was instantly disagreeing with her once again. For all I knew the rest of Carver's group was just fine and dandy back at Howe's, and I really doubt they'd be friendly to the group that killed George, Hank, Troy, and Carver.

I understand where Jane's coming from on a lot of what she says and does, but it doesn't stop me from hating her.

  • I wanted to like her, I really did. She's tough, but she's selfish, and a goddamn sociopath too. What kind of person puts a freakin' BABY in danger JUST to force a 12-year-old girl into a situation where she'd have to shoot an older friend of hers, or turn away and let a new friend die. It's just so DISGUSTING how Clementine tearfully tells her she forgives her. It was awful, and I felt sick. I just do NOT like Jane.

3: The shouting in the car, about Kenny's family.

To this day I have no idea where this dialogue came from. It's so forced beyond belief, making Kenny and Jane instant enemies for no good reason, and it's so painfully obvious the writers dropped this scene into the game for no reason other than to "build up" to the final conflict. When did Jane ever learn about Kenny's past family? Who ever bothered to tell her about Duck or Katjaa? Where the heck did this "argument" come from?

4: Aj, she leaves him in a car and wants to get Kenny killed just to prove a point.

Like I've said before, she didn't hide AJ and bait Kenny just to prove a point that Kenny was crazy. People love that "just to prove a point" nonsense when dissing Jane. Kenny was literally dragging them all on what should've been realistically portrayed as a literal suicide mission to find Wellington, which Jane didn't want any of them to go on. If the endings had a shred of realism, they would've found Wellington in one year, rather than nine days and with a starving crying baby, in the freezing winter, with no food, Kenny, Clem and AJ would've likely died before they found it. Jane was trying to stop this ridiculous plan which should've led to the death of everyone in Kenny's endings (but unfortunately the writers love to throw sense out the window, making the irrational and unthinking Kenny seem "right" for continuing his plan to find Wellington when it would've made more sense in his endings if they had never found Wellington at all in such a short period of time.) Hence, Jane didn't bait Kenny "just to prove a point." She was trying to save them all.

  • Oh and yes, to answer your original question, I love her character. I love how Clem has a good influence on her; I love how she's a person who's shown she can grow and change from her original views; I love that she's smart (because for some reason it's really hard to find a smart, capable person in this game.) I know there was potential there for some witty banter from her, but unfortunately the script didn't fit too much of that in. I love that I saw my flaws in her, in how she has trouble getting close to people, but it's obvious she wants to be close to people, and how she's slowly learning to let people back into her life. I could relate to how she has big mistakes in her past she's trying to get over, and how she's trying so hard to forgive herself, but she can't really. I feel sorry for her, and I know where she's coming from, and I get annoyed when people claim she's the devil in disguise. I wish the writers had taken some more time to give her some more depth (and done justice in writing her character), because I think that would've been great if they had. I just really want to see her heart of ice melt even more, and to see her grow and get more of her humanity back in this world where it's so hard to keep hold of it.

  • Jane? I fucking hat that bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!1

I say sarcastically even though my username has her name.

  • A very poorly written character. I think in many ways the second season would have been better without her

When did Jane ever learn about Kenny's past family? Who ever bothered to tell her about Duck or Katjaa? Where the heck did this "argument" come from?

There's a few instances where Kenny or other characters make mention of Kenny's previous family in some capacity

When you return to the yard after getting the walkie-talkies, Kenny starts talking about how he was thinking about Duck. Given that Jane isn't sitting too far away, it's likely that she overheard that conversation to some degree

Then you have the characters throughout episode 4 looking to Kenny for guidance regarding Rebecca's pregnancy. That alone is pretty telling that he had a child at one point

Then you have some determinant dialogue that makes note of it. Clementine can directly say that Kenny had a family before, and that he might know what to do about the baby. If you killed the zombie that bit Sarita, Clementine gets a dialogue option along the lines of "This isn't the first time Kenny's dealt with this." And a few other lines like that

Jane never refers to his old family by name, and there's only three used lines that directly allude to his family. The rest of her argument is centered around Sarita in that regard. All Jane really knows is that he had an old family at one point, but that's about it. And given she's lost a sister herself, I imagine she can pick up on a lot of the tells in Kenny's behavior that imply that he had (and lost) a family

  • I tried to like Jane, but in the end I just found her to be an annoyance due to how poorly written she is, mainly due to how the story tries to portray her as a competent survivor when her actions contradicts her ideals:

    • Starting the chain of events that leads to Arvo and his gang ambushing Clementine's group by robbing him and leaving him alive to get help.
    • Her sex offer to Luke ends up distracting him from watching out for incoming walkers and determinately ends up getting someone needlessly killed, after spending all that effort from saving them from their first death scene, which by coincidence is also indirectly caused by Jane by asking Clementine to leave a grieving girl behind to be eaten by walkers.
    • Hiding the baby from Kenny to provoke him into losing his mind and attacking her to prove how unstable he is, instead of just asking Clementine if she feels safe with him or not

The Jaime backstory also felt ham-fisted due to how she's never called out for her remark about how people "cannot let go of the past", and yet Jane quite often talks about her dead sister to Clementine, which is also used as an shoddy excuse to leave Sarah to a horrible death in her first death scene in spite of Jaime and Sarah being two different people in two different situations.

That being said I did choose Jane over Kenny in the finale, but when Season 3 comes around I don't plan to stick around with her for long.

  • I undedstand all your view points but we share oposite opinions. As yes, Nick was a real idiot when they first met, but so were a lot of characters. He had to kill his own mother. Yes, she was going to turn but a thing like that makes it hard on a person, and like Rebecca and many others apologized and tried to/changed. In my opinion, I don't think Jane did that enough. I mean when Bonnie said she didn't trust her, I stuck up for her.

She's my favorite character after Clementine, Lee and Sarah.

    Hmm...Jane...

She's been depending on herself to survive mostly, which can be good and bad. Good, because she only needs to worry about herself. Bad, because one slip up, she's on her own. Much respect for Jane staying alive. She's smart, resourceful, badass, and I'm fine with her methods. People in TWD have done worse things like cannibalism and rape. I like Jane.

  • Bonnie doesn't always make sure Clem is okay once Arvo shot here. If Clem shoots the walkers instead of going to Luke, Bonnie pretty much hates her. When Arvo shoots Clem, she tells Mike to "just leave her".

  • If it were up to me, for starters I would have ensured that the Season 1 hubs mechanics are in effect, so our relationship with Jane would not be forced on us.

Next, I would have made her more consistent in terms of writing instead of having her actions contradicts her words and her survivalist techniques. An example would be her comment about how people "can't let go of the past", and yet Jane talks about her presumably dead sister Jaime to Clementine without getting called on it. Another would be to remove the 'sex offer' she gives to Luke, as from a narrative point it doesn't make sense for a survivalist character to suddenly risk everyone's lives including herself just to have a bit of 'fun time' with a stranger she had known for about an hour.
